I was listening to some old tapes...Time to reminisce...Ok remember we had Hot 103, playing freestyle and GOOD music 24/7 (unlike what we have today, except for sunday nights)....I was 8 years old, chillin at the Childrens Playhouse Summer day Camp on Rockland Ave. in Staten Island with my little radio with the blank tape always set to tape whatever good song came on next...Thinkin I was da shit cause all the counselors let me hang out with them cause I was down with all the good music....Sittin there in my little swim trunks and tank tops these were my top jams that summer that were on constantly: DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince "Parents Just Don't Understand", Cynthia "Change On Me", Stevie B "Spring Love", Pebbles "Girlfriend", Safire "Boy I've Been Told"....Man those REALLY were the days!!!! We should have some kind of "old school" themed party, ya know, one night to re-live those days gone by!! I would gladly spin, but I wont be wearing little swim trunks with fishes on them....SO where were you in the Summer of '88?

Actually the summer of 1988 is when i really created the song "in a dream" the very first version, it was a group called "first kiss" .. later it became jossette & rockells hit song

I was learning how to type! and enjoying one of the best summers of my life - i remember hearing SAFIRE's "Boy I've Been Told" on HOT 103 while walking down 87th & 2nd Ave. I ran down to THE WIZ on 86th street and bought the 12" version. Unfortunately, a couple of days later, my mother accidentally sat on it and broke it in two. So of course, i had to buy another copy. SAFIRE got 2 sales from me, but she's worth it.

And yes, i still do have the broken record still with me.

Ahh the summer of 88, what a freakin year that was!!

The summer of 88, i ws in PR (Patillas). My mornings were spent picking pana on my grandparents farm (which is no easy task). My cousins and I were extremely homesick. I was 15, and a big freestyle head who had just started going out the year b4. One day some of the kids told us about the festival that was coming to town and that theres a spot like a club where all the young kids hang out and whre they play good music. So we all got dressed up in true 80's fashion(me with a tail and some ridiculous pokodot shirt, feeling fly as hell) We walked the two miles to town, done up on a dark road filled with stray dogs. To my dismay, the "hot spot" was actually the local pizzaria that was converted into a dance hall at night ( there was still sauce on the floor) They were playing freestyle however, albeit old and everyone was doing this foot dance. My cousin tried to battle someone, showing off some steps from the states, but slipped on the sauce (no lie) My other cousin got into an argument with a bunch of older cats, and my big mouth joined right in. B4 u know it there werelike 10 older dudes surrounding the four of us. Theres a time to fight and a time to run, and when i say we were out like shout it is no understatement, im talking kneecaps to lips. All in all though, it was a summer to remember. I love my island, and my people and can't wait to go back, even to that pizzaria (i wonder if its still there) And to those cousins that shared this time with me at grandmas house in Patillas; jennifer, maria, rae, valerie, joey, mario, jose, antonio and my brother, we're all grown now and living in different cities, but it will always be about familia.... I LOVE U ALL.....

Summer of 88....Hmmmm

Let's see. I was working in a Supermarket making money to help cut the costs of college. Used to bring my radio to work and play current freestyle tapes while I stocked the shelves. Time off was spent shopping and hanging with friends, trying to convince them to give up the heavy metal (ughhh!!) they listened to and get them into the freestyle I loved! I used to wear acid washed jeans, matching button down denim shirt, black or white t-shirt, gold chain with the nameplate and playboy bunny in the corner, engraved with DIGGER on it. Blue LA Gear sneakers and quite a few black rubber braclets on the right wrist. The left had two watches. I even had a blond streak in my hair.
