oldee but goodie! 😉
man i was 14yrs old..getting into all types of music from
new edition, to debbie gibson to bon jovi and discovering
songs like "boy ive been told" "show me" without a clue
who sang them or anything...at the same time i was having
the time of my live hanging out w/my fave group "menudo".
in several states.. toward the end of the tour at one show
the opening acts were the "cover girls" and "safire"...still
i had no idea what they sang..not knowing i loved their songs,
so..well for some reason i don't remember "safire" had to cancel
so there was another group..which i didnt know until i walked
in to the show to my front row seats..and felt embarrased to
walk in the middle of their show..tka, which as they continued to
sing..i recognized the songs..as i did with the cover girls..i was
finally able to put the songs w/the groups..and from that day grew
a very a special friendship! 😉

I was 10 years old. I remember a mix tape that I made from all my neighbor's 12" records that included Sweet Sensation "Hooked On You", Pretty Poison "Catch Me I'm Falling", L Trimm "Cars That Go Boom", NKOTB "Please Don't Go, Girl", JJ Fad "Supersonic", etc. I also would watch this video I recorded off MTV with Sweet Sensation performing on Club MTV and all the hits of the time. I was a fool. I also remember performing Janet Jackson songs in my backyard with my sister. Hahahaha. What a great time for music!!!!

I wish I was around when Gay clubs were pumpin' and Locas were bumpin' to Freestyle. Those had to be some good-ass times. Of course, I was only 11.

i think I was in the 6th grade. I heard freestyle on the radio...never thought much of it....didnt even know it was called Freestyle.....Never thought As a young Adult My life would be consumed in it.

What was I doin???

Hmmm probably runnin butt naked thru a sprinkler! :sround Not that I don't still do that once in awhile:shush LOL

I was 19 and about to starty my senior year at Hunter College and working a summer job at a bank after quitting my job at a local Key Food! It was great to finally have weekends off so I could be at 1018 on Friday and Saturday nights.

...."goodbye baby say goodbye...I know it won't be easy cuz you need me...a victim of love, whoooooaaa" hahahahaha I was going into 10th grade. I have two words for anyone who was a teenager or young adult during that time......................................aqua net!!!!! acid washed jeans (with the jacket to match, 'mind you. You had to let your jacket hang off your shoulders for some reason) Remember pegging your pants at the bottom?? You knew the HOUSE PARTY was jumpin' if you heard " Freestyle's kickin' in the house tonight, move your body from left to right, to all you freaks don't stop the rock, because freestyle's kickin' and you know we're hot!" And there was always a dj (usually a friend of yours) trying to go back and forth on the TECHNICS trying to make it say "IT'S TIME" or what was on the flip side of that record "JUST FEEL IT". Man I love those days..Expose', Covergirls, Stevie B...... I was rapping at the time, but loved all kinds of music. Some of us even sported biker shorts with Adidas, Filas or BKs!! Remember wearing Mecedes symbols??? For us in Central California and the Bay KMEL was the station with Cameron Paul. Shoot I remember I had to put speaker wire up all over my room just to get it in, lol!

Back then we would just go to a friend of a friends cousin's, little baby sisters wedding or quincenera (without invitation)

OH and for everyone who owned a Commador 64 remember something like this?

GOTO "RUN"
REPEAT
ENTER

RUN
RUN
RUN
RUN
RUN
RUN
RUN
RUN
RUN
RUN
RUN
RUN

YOU GET MY POINT, HAHAHAHAHA

Okay....okay...I just remembered this too

The Wop
The Running Man
The Robocop
The Cabbage Patch......

I also remember listening to records on a console like stereo. The one's that you had to lift the lid up! Hey those bumped!! We would listen to all kinds of records (sometimes sneak certain ones nwa,etc..) I learned the fast part of JJ FAD's "Supersonic" by slowing down the tempo real slow. I thought I was so "Fresh" because I knew that part, lol
