hmm no reason to cry was the one for me......... that threw me hardcore into freestyle........ i had a parttime job in hs and i would spend most of my money just buying freestyle back then
 
That's OK Kenny - back then I didn't even know the term "latin hiphop" existed - to me it was all top40/dance. And I usually tried to stay as far away from it as possible - lol!
 
TRUE, Kerri, it was all the same to me. madonna, stray cats, deniece williams, grand master flash......it was just "music" to me back then.
 
Well, see now I knew that the Stray Cats were rock and the rest weren't- lol! Actually, back then Grandmaster Flash was hardcore and I wouldn't go near it. However, "The Message" (or is that the Sugar Hill Gang) and "White Lines" are 2 songs I love to this day.
 
i guess cause i was still in elemantary school there were NO catagories because everyone listend to the same thing. once we got to jr. high, we all got put into groups from the music we like (rap,pop,rock)
 
yeah kenny and keh...it was just referred to as dance at first..i dont think it really didnt start being called freestyle until around late 88 or early 89 (wow im so giving my age away)i also remeber it being referred to as underground...i just called it" my shit" still do today😛
 
it all started for me back in 1986 with miami groups like Expose,trinere,company b, erotic exotic, secret society,nice & wild, but songs that really did it for me were:
