I first met Suzy at her 5th Birthday Party at the legendary Studio 54. I became good friends with her father and came to see her perform that night. I had already been pusuing the music business a few years and I really wanted to see what this little girl was all about. I'm am not too sure what she performed but they were all of the current hits of the day. Modonna, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston etc. I absolutly couldn't believe, not only in what I was hearing, but more so in what I was seeing. This girl capture the entire crowd. Her stage presence was unbelivable. I remember hearing her sing "Love Don't Live Hear Anymore" by Modonna and seeing people in the audience brought to tears. At the end of the show, her Birthday cake was brought out on to the stage by "The Village People" and the entire Studio 54 crowd sung Happy Birthday. That is just one of the "Magical" moments I personally have experienced working with Suzy for the past 18 years. Thats right I have been with her 18 years. At that age Suzy was performing every weekend without a record. The Limelight, The Paladium, The Red Parrot, The Copa, Crystal City, Roland, The Fun House. You name the club that was happening in Ny in the 80's and she was there. I remember the Limo's, in-club catering and the $600.00 she got for her show. This went on for the next three years until she was signed to Fever records at 8. She released her first single called "Randy" which was produced by Tony Moran and Andy Panda. It was a bubble Gum record and very hard to sell. Fever decided to let her go and that is when she signed to HighPower at 11 years old. At 12 Take Me In Your Arms became a hit and that is when everything started to take off. 3 to 4 shows a week at top price throughout the country as well as Mexico and Canada. Airplanes and Hotels became her playground. Ask her today does she remember when she "Didn't" sing and she will tell you No! Suzy released 2 albums on Highpower. At the age of 16 she started her own label called Empress and was distributed by Metropolitan. She release 2 more albums and her Lil' Suzy MegaMix on Metropolitan. She just released a Greatest Hits album on BMG (major label) and is currently in negotiations with another major. She release 3 videos 2 with HighPower and one with Metro. 6 albums and she is only 22 years old. Regardless of how good or bad she sounds or looks, she has always been there for the Freestyle community. Sacrificing her dignity and livelyhood to support the music she loves so much "Freestyle!" She's Freestyle's Baby sister and we have to protect her and encourage her to keep going, because it's rough, I know!

Latif, awesome post. I hope Suzanne likes being called Freestyle's baby sister! She's on an ongoing journey and I certainly would like her to know I encourage all her efforts past and present.

I'm looking forward to an all new material CD. The sooner the better and hearing that she performed the three new tracks off her greatest hits released this week on Empire. She is of and for the future of freestyle. I wish her all the best!

I remember seeing her on CNN Headline News many years ago, talking about how young she was and how big a hit she had.

Latif,

Wow, amazing post.

I absolutely love 'Lil Suzy..."Take me in your arms", "When i fall in love", "Promise me", and "Now and Forever" are songs of hers that i particularly love.
Her voice does have a strong, rhaspy quality, but that's what i like about it--it's different.

Lil Suzy is amazing...I don't care what anybody says...having a hit song at 12! How many people have accomplished that?

Props to 'lil Suzy.🙂

Hey

Well Latif always doing your thing bro, and as for everybody i never have seen Suzy perform only heard the songs. On Dec. 11th 1999 we did a show in Lancaster, PA at Club Chameleon. Now it was Olga Rivera, Synthia Figueroa, Suzy and Us. It was great cause I have never performed with suzy, and let me tell you she rock the show...I have her on video. So Say what ya want, I don't play hate, nor think i'm all that, but when a person thorws a good show, I applaud. So Suzy good luck in all you do, Latif when you get the chance call me or email me....🙂
Later
Sincerely
Alex Zuniga

SHE SEEMS COOL
II LIKE SOME OF HER SONGS
I REMEMBER SEING HER LIVE WHEN I WAS ABOUT 13 IN PATERSON
WHEN "TAKE ME IN U'R ARMS" WAS THE SONG ...
II THOUHT SHE DID GOOD

Just to add to the above sentiments, I LOVE Lil Suzy. She is my absolute favorite freestyle artist. She is awesome! I agree with some of the posters that she doesn't have the world's strongest singing voice, but who cares? She can carry a tune, and IMHO her voice is suited perfectly to the material that she chooses (like Britney or Janet Jackson). Not everybody has to be a Whitney or Mariah. It's also not fair to judge her solely on the vocals from her early songs, because she REALLY improved on the 3rd and 4th albums.

Anyway, I love her and can't wait for a new album!

Down in Houston its hard to find good freestyle music anywhere until recently or if you scoured the internet. I remember digging through boxes in record shops to find the latest cassettes of Sweet Sensation or the Cover Girls, Safire in the late 80's. Flipping through all the cable shows to catch a glimpse of them. I'd be blasting it in my car and everyone would ask me who they were. Lil Suzy has remained the link to those days and never sold out. I hope she keeps making music and heads down this way sometime soon. Anyone who doesn't like Lil Suzy never knew or just doesn't remember about old school freestyle. You don't get from old school to new school without her.

I dont think anyone hates her,I support her music and seen her perform, she has talent and is a true artist.I buy every CD she puts out,Ya know I love you LIL'SUZY,We love you in THe BAY AREA TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!A VERY LOYAL ARTIST to US-FREESTYLE FANS,she's real,LOL

Not much left to be said after Latif finished :cool

I've been lucky enough to see her 6 or 7 times over the years, and have only ONE complaint that could be made -- each show was far too short! 😀

Alex -- I want that video!! Its been FAR too long since she was last here!! 😉 lol :cool

...I hear many things like she has a screechy voice and some of her beats were played out. I think she’s a pretty good singer and her songs are tight. And how do you say Take Me In Your Arms is a bad song. Im just wondering how people thinks she suck. Thanx

I think the word HATE is a very strong word here. I don't think People HATE suzanne, cause to HATE a person means to really, totally dislike that person for who they are, how they live, and what they do, I don't think this applies here. Suzanne has a huge following. and remember not everyone is going to like every artist. Her style may not be what others want to hear. But as we've all come to know, you can't please everyone.

Suzanne continutes to do her thing, and continues to have her unconditional support from her fans.
