If freestyle is a mixture of hip hop and dance, then MY BOO by Ghost town D.J.'s is one of the most perfectly made freestyle songs to me.
"My Boo" is booty bass (Miami bass) such as 2 Live Crew, MC Ade, Poison Clan, Tag Team, 69 Boyz, Kinsu, Kilo Ali, etc.
I guess it could also crossover to the breakbeat category. I've seen Dj Laz and Jonny Z. both put on freestyle compilations along with whoever sings "lookin for the butta".
Pamp and Da Knox-Butta
Yeah, I've seen DJ laz and Jonny Z (Man I love them) but they're more Miami Bass-called Latin Bass nowadays. The song "Lookin' for the butta" as well as Pamp and Da Knox's other releases such as "Shake" and "Switch" is either Hard House or Miami Bass depending on their mixes. But in my opinion, one remix of "Butta" can pass for freestyle because it uses Planet Patrol's "Play at Your Own Risk" method.
Dana Harris "as we lay" had a freestyle beat, but no extra sounds like "a little bit of ecstacy", "set u free", and "love's high (album version)", but it did use the same beat. "summertime summertime" by Corina had parts in her song that had that same beat. Anyway, I really don't know what is freestyle anymore because.....
Dana Harris is really a mixture of bass and R&B. Remember, I guess it's what many consider Freestyle, and I know Dana Harris and Ghost Town DJs would not fit that spot. Back then, if you listen to S.O.S. Band's "Just Be Good To Me", it can pass for Freestyle but many back then and still consider it just good-fun disco.
Also, Anquette's "I Will Always Be There For You" (1989) can be considered freestyle although largely she/they (Anquette Allen is the lead, but Anquette is really a group) is bass, signed to Luke SKyywalker records in 1986. "Respect", "Shake It-Do the 61st"-bass.
Remember, Miami Bass and Freestyle are sisters but do have their own unique sounds and genres to classify them apart (such as House and "Detroit House", or Techno).
On Planet Rock...yes, it is one of the most sampled songs in history. Not only is the beat imitated, but so are their words. For example, Lianna uses "Feel the Groove" in her 1998 hit "Feel it". "Planet Rock", "Rock It Don't Stop It", etc. However, it is Electro-Funk first before it can be Freestyle. It birthed the Jonzun Crew, Planet Patrol, Rocker's Revenge, etc.
