Thank You.
I love Miami, and have a lot of great memories of some great freestyle moments there.Who knows there may even be a BIG concert in the works now.SSSSSSHHHHHHHH!!!!!Keep your ears and eyes open Miami.....Were coming......

Hey SilentLatin, what ever happened to the Ten Lion Record Label?
We know what happened to Hot Records.
See if George Acosta is playing any Freestyle. He used to play it alot when he worked the clubs.
Is there any clubs playing it now?

Check this out

Admittedly it's been a while since I lived in Miami (Dec '98). But I get home to Southwest Broward where I have friends and family and I get some South Florida Freestyle on the web. Power 96 does the 5 O'Clock traffic Jam with DJ Laz and other DJ's like Oliver Zogby. Also tune in Friday nights for Freestyle Fridays on Power 96 I caught one just late last month.

It's not dead down there bro!!! It may have slowed down but South Florida still books freestyle acts and you can definitely get to a music shop and get a great selection of freestyle stuff.

I'm in Freestyle Exhile up here in Northern VA washington DC area and believe me I would trade ya in a second!

Take Care Miami Freestyle Homie!!!!

Miami was one of the best cities to be in during freestyle popularity - only second to new york. even while on vacation there last year, i hear some freestyle mixes on the radio and it really brought back some good memories, it was like 1988 all over again!! i swear!!

Hey There Silent!

don't worry about freestyle music being dead in miami, i know all about it, i'll tell you what, if you can put together a list of your favorite artist or even songs, now i'm talking go way back to the days, artists like teaz II pleaz, pure pleazure, fontaine, rare design, power patrol, all the good miami classics, i have them all so your in good hands. I'll hook you up just because i want you to jam in your car like me, haha! i'm from miami just going to school here in orlando. So make a list, unless you want to leave it up to me, i'll take you way back. So there you have it, e-mail me at freestylejay@prodigy.net.

I have a complete collection going back to the late 70's and Unless you where a local group in another city then I probably don't have it. There is a few I might not have gotten.I went out of my way when I traveled and went to local record shops and always bought stuff.
Believe me , I JAM everyday and Twice on Sundays, 365 a year. Make me a list
I have the disco as well as the FREESTYLE.
Oh, I have house too.😉

ten-lion records.....when i got started inthe industry..ten lion was still running. I became the manager for the last teazII pleaze girls feat hilda marie. they came out with a record "games of love" produced by jorge ojeda. it was only me, jorge and vic ten who was ten lion at that time. "games of love" got play in texas and miami and basically all the regions that are now breaks regions.

The final end came when ten lion brothers vic (marlene ten,his wife) and ed decided to pull the plug..after Hilda backed out and later would mary someone who didnt want her to sing anymore. the other two members just faded.
(the original teaz girls and the second wave of teaz girls are all living a normal life and are seen around parts of miami.).

Detour records took over all licencing and still has all copies of teaz II pleaz material (cds and some vinyle), as well as former Detour artist.

Detour records and ten lion records where the last of the line of Original freestyle label companies left in miami still cultivating artist.(others as hot only existed licence compilations.Hot productions is now another comany now also).

Since then..all freestyle artist to come out of maimi are also known as breaks artist. samantha (craving your love) is now fiori. lewis martinee and jellybean were represented though d'luna the china doll. street beat/pandisc were represented though robin fox.
jellybean now has india thorough freestyle breaks mixes.
frank lords (secret society, latin xpress, dark beat) new single is slow freestyle driven breaks. danny canary known for power patrol and manyother freestyle and bass groups is now known as dj fluid and his break remixes from debrah coxs "mr lonely", "dreams"by reberta childs, and others can be heard onthe radio.

at this very moment detour records and freestylemusic.com and manyother companies are recultivating themselves and about to louncha new aliance of companies that cater to artist, producers, television and radio. the artist are prodominatly a new breed and generation of prodominantly latin artist, mostly out of florida or out of the state/country freestyle break artist who are rooted in these regions).

the signs have already started as we just wraped up rockell's video for tears this past weekend. yes, detour records is now DETOUR records and films.

its good to know that other promoters/producers come to plan concerts in miami. look forward to that. howevere be prepared for a invasion of new miami freestyle/break artist, parties and open air concerts and tours.

safire fan. respect to your love for the music...but "second to new york".......if it wasnt for Expose in the early 80's (the original expose)...there wouldnt be a influence in the following years of the 3 chicks and a drum machine trios that would flood freestyles scene (company b, teazII Pleaze, cover girls, pijama party, sweet sensation etc.
If it wasnt for early miami artist like Cynthia roundtree, sequel, and others to pressure for a Hot 105 and rythm 98 to go on air in miami , there wouldnt of been any one opening doors for new york to fly down here before freestyle (the latin hiphop wave of artist) ever hit new york and expanded the market there.

if it wasnt for miamis strong hold and strength and skill to master all sides of freestyle from the electro sides, the traditional sides and the club/nrg sides...there really wouldnt be a peak in 1988.
Till this day, new york only focused on "traditional sides".
for the past decade..it was miami latins and california who claimed back the freestyle beats taken bythe undergound rave scene and crossed over to comercial radio.

Miami has been doing it for 2 decades non stop.
At this moment california and miami (and the rest of florida) ORLANDO are the leaders in the cutting edge freestyle /breaks movement.

just cuz new york is not getting anything that is cutting edge on the radio (refering to only old school formats and old school sound alikes) or claimed itself dead, doesnt mean the rest of the world of freestyle died. we all went evolved and moved on, while the pioneers of new york latin freestyle all went to be rap artist, house djs and salsa singers etc.
(then they come back and wonder why people dont like them like they used to.).

all these years...SECOND to new york?....no, more like side by side. but if not... compare all the contributions to freestyle from the electro funk days all the way to todays breaks/freestyle scene . who has made more noise and contributed, keeping the scene on the cutting edge?.

if it wasnt for mIami...FREESTYLE wouldnt of have its own name.

well, i will stop, lastthing i want is to start up a new york vs miami war. And that will get pretty ugly if it ever were to happen.
(cuz then california and the southwest regions would jump on miamis side, along side the of undergound ravers we have on our sides also.
may i also add the old school electro funksters, who to this day pockets of new york freestyle still dont consider that anything to do with freestyle).

but anyway..lets keep it all positive as in 2003 and 2004 we all unite and help each other out.

NAYA ..mad love to you. you will be in miami soon.
we are waiting.

peace out to all.

miami was the shit back in the 80's & 90's for freestyle. i mean we played everything from miami to NY freestyle. wow soo many great memories and all them open air power 96 shows like "calle ocho 88" with stevie b,erotic exotic, sasha, company b,tina b,nice&wild, genuine parts, judy torres, brenda k starr , promise circle and all those gang fights (jon pito u know what im talkin about lol)
how about one of my favorite power 96 shows on july 4 1988 at ft lauderdale beach with 20 of the best freestyle and bass groups like stevie b,tka, cynthia(first time i ever saw her),information society, erotic exotic, upfront, cover girls, fastforward, trilogy, pretty poison,dynamix2,isis,denize lopez, trinere etc.
or what about club1235 which later turned into decos or my fave spot-hot wheels skating center which had a different freestyle act every week! and the power shows at six flags atlantis! cant forget about casablancas, ricks bar,na penthas, city limits, club nu,power dome, wow....now miami is all about breaks which is cool cuz that was my shit when i was living down there. now im living in NY and love me some nu school electro/electroclash which is the hot thing in the williamsburg underground up here. but if theres a big planned out freestyle show in miami, i will most defintely, without a doubt fly down for it.

JOnpito..no te me desaparescas!..LOLOL I'll see you over there😉

MARLON!!!!!!

remember that time at the hielieah spring fest, right before cynthia took the stage..the huge fightthat broke out..it was latin kings vs inp....there was ylo's out there and like halph of the members of la familia...............bottles flying everywhere and every one running back to thier cars.,....sh*t was crazy. but all that stuff we had to put up with.

oh, im focusing on w.i.t's album next month on freestylemusic.
i heard already 3 versions of "hold me touch me"....my fave is the one with her vocotered voice..where aurthur baker had more influence.

man, whats up with that drama for ashley i read up in here somewhere........peeps better whatch it. ashleys our girl.......she got people in miami and orlando watching her back!! (hiden bat behind our backs, lol).

Naya.......no i wont disapear...but many will be maybe mad at me...cuz i might not be in miami during 4th of july. Although i have d'luna lined up for several shows in miami, due to the new release "come with me"....
i most probably will be out of the country and have her in miami with my crew to represent in my absence.

I always asked why the hell the managers arent always with the artist, instead always the assistants that have to baby sit. lol, now i know. it aint always easy to be at 3 places at one time and wurking that record, dealing with labels and all the bull that people throw your way.

but one day i will see all of you and have a blast.

marlon, its funny how this life is.and i say this here so that everyone can see...

its funny how one day you aint shit, just a kid living during a movement, just another face in the crowd of purist. always in the back corner...and then one day...your no longer inthe audience, but on the other side of the fence and rope, behind the stage. and all eyes and people depend on you now. people want you to be this and that now and expect from you. somtimes your at a point that you want people to know that your more capable than just that.one day be able to do things beyond freestyle.to be able to express a your talents.looking back, one day your buying a record (now we call em units), the next day your behind the exec desk, sound board or behind the mic.

if you really want something in this life..no matter how big or how small........its never that far away and always possible.

yes one day miami was so much..is hard to explain what miami was like in the 80's. im always glad that i was always inthe scene back then, but also thankful that i wasnt inthe industry back then...cuz one thing about the industry..it all gose by so quickly..sometimes you dont even enjoy it cuz it passes you by like an hour in a day.
so im glad that i (we all) grew up with that enough to enjoy it), however now is our turn to Wurk it and let another generation have a taste of what we had...............and this time it wont only be Miami booming agian with concerts ,parties etc....but all around tha nation.

peace
luv yu all

WE ALL FROM THE SAME BREED!!!!

MARLON, KNOWS FIRST HAND, WE ARE ALL FROM THE SAME BREED!!!!

I remember it so damn well...the Haunted House at MZ (tka & tONY mORAN) , Six Flags, Springfest, Hot Wheels, Westland and even, yes-- Starlight Banquet Hall and the open house parties.

We are all so loyal to the music that made us cry when we wanted that
certain girl. When we were between being kids and being adults. When we first felt what it was like to fall for someone. That special music was always heard in the background. The music that always made you want to hold her closer, tighter!!!

And now, long after Facade, Escapades, Egoiste, 1235, St. Croix, Club One, Rick's Bar, City Limits, Club Boca & Emerald City....Freestyle is still beating. Now, so many years later, through Sal's concert & Salsa 98.3--we can go back to when we were that young....when nothing mattered, no worries, no stress, just the beats &-- "Her".

I remember driving to an hour & 1/2 to Club Boca for Stevie B back in '99 (I believe)!!! I had the time of my life! I remember kickin it with my boy Marlon at Alcazaba for Coro & dancing and screaming all the words. I also remember every Friday driving to Emerald in Ft. Lauderdale to see my favorite acts.

My love for Freestyle started when I first heard Summertime, Summertime (Nocera) & Too Turned On (Alysha) & Tell it To My Heart (Taylor Dayne) ---I WAS IN 3RD GRADE!!!

These are my memories...and I wish I could relive them with each of you!!

I'll see you at the club in July!!!!

PS My favorite Anthems:

My Sweet Love
Be with you tonight (Power Patrol)
I want you (Shana)
Drums of Love (7th heaven/Dimas Martinez)
Forever Amor (Dzyre)
Full Circle & You Stole My Heart (Company B)
It's not too late (Sequel)
You're my one & only , true love (Seduction)
Match Made up in heaven (JIll)
They're playing our song (Trinere)
Lovergirl (Meg)

Please name any others that I may have missed.
