DJlegendphilly-
ten-lion records.....when i got started inthe industry..ten lion was still running. I became the manager for the last teazII pleaze girls feat hilda marie. they came out with a record "games of love" produced by jorge ojeda. it was only me, jorge and vic ten who was ten lion at that time. "games of love" got play in texas and miami and basically all the regions that are now breaks regions.
The final end came when ten lion brothers vic (marlene ten,his wife) and ed decided to pull the plug..after Hilda backed out and later would mary someone who didnt want her to sing anymore. the other two members just faded.
(the original teaz girls and the second wave of teaz girls are all living a normal life and are seen around parts of miami.).
Detour records took over all licencing and still has all copies of teaz II pleaz material (cds and some vinyle), as well as former Detour artist.
Detour records and ten lion records where the last of the line of Original freestyle label companies left in miami still cultivating artist.(others as hot only existed licence compilations.Hot productions is now another comany now also).
Since then..all freestyle artist to come out of maimi are also known as breaks artist. samantha (craving your love) is now fiori. lewis martinee and jellybean were represented though d'luna the china doll. street beat/pandisc were represented though robin fox.
jellybean now has india thorough freestyle breaks mixes.
frank lords (secret society, latin xpress, dark beat) new single is slow freestyle driven breaks. danny canary known for power patrol and manyother freestyle and bass groups is now known as dj fluid and his break remixes from debrah coxs "mr lonely", "dreams"by reberta childs, and others can be heard onthe radio.
at this very moment detour records and freestylemusic.com and manyother companies are recultivating themselves and about to louncha new aliance of companies that cater to artist, producers, television and radio. the artist are prodominatly a new breed and generation of prodominantly latin artist, mostly out of florida or out of the state/country freestyle break artist who are rooted in these regions).
the signs have already started as we just wraped up rockell's video for tears this past weekend. yes, detour records is now DETOUR records and films.
its good to know that other promoters/producers come to plan concerts in miami. look forward to that. howevere be prepared for a invasion of new miami freestyle/break artist, parties and open air concerts and tours.
safire fan. respect to your love for the music...but "second to new york".......if it wasnt for Expose in the early 80's (the original expose)...there wouldnt be a influence in the following years of the 3 chicks and a drum machine trios that would flood freestyles scene (company b, teazII Pleaze, cover girls, pijama party, sweet sensation etc.
If it wasnt for early miami artist like Cynthia roundtree, sequel, and others to pressure for a Hot 105 and rythm 98 to go on air in miami , there wouldnt of been any one opening doors for new york to fly down here before freestyle (the latin hiphop wave of artist) ever hit new york and expanded the market there.
if it wasnt for miamis strong hold and strength and skill to master all sides of freestyle from the electro sides, the traditional sides and the club/nrg sides...there really wouldnt be a peak in 1988.
Till this day, new york only focused on "traditional sides".
for the past decade..it was miami latins and california who claimed back the freestyle beats taken bythe undergound rave scene and crossed over to comercial radio.
Miami has been doing it for 2 decades non stop.
At this moment california and miami (and the rest of florida) ORLANDO are the leaders in the cutting edge freestyle /breaks movement.
just cuz new york is not getting anything that is cutting edge on the radio (refering to only old school formats and old school sound alikes) or claimed itself dead, doesnt mean the rest of the world of freestyle died. we all went evolved and moved on, while the pioneers of new york latin freestyle all went to be rap artist, house djs and salsa singers etc.
(then they come back and wonder why people dont like them like they used to.).
all these years...SECOND to new york?....no, more like side by side. but if not... compare all the contributions to freestyle from the electro funk days all the way to todays breaks/freestyle scene . who has made more noise and contributed, keeping the scene on the cutting edge?.
if it wasnt for mIami...FREESTYLE wouldnt of have its own name.
well, i will stop, lastthing i want is to start up a new york vs miami war. And that will get pretty ugly if it ever were to happen.
(cuz then california and the southwest regions would jump on miamis side, along side the of undergound ravers we have on our sides also.
may i also add the old school electro funksters, who to this day pockets of new york freestyle still dont consider that anything to do with freestyle).
but anyway..lets keep it all positive as in 2003 and 2004 we all unite and help each other out.
NAYA ..mad love to you. you will be in miami soon.
we are waiting.
peace out to all.
