JParker....
Fine....good points.....but what the hell are you saying by Judy came before Safire.....are you crazy....how well do you know this music.
Safire came out in 1986 when it wasn't even called Freestyle, it was called Latin Hip-Hop...Judy came out in 1987-88.
Are you sure you know what your talking about?

Mr. Parker you are wrong - i must agree with felix. SAFIRE was definately out way before Judy Torres. SAFIRE was one of the first female freestyle artist to hit the scene.

There is no disbuting that Nayobe was the first......that does not mean she is the Queen.
Sorry to say, after the Cover Girls and SAFIRE came out for reasons unknown, she took a "backburner". Yes she is a great singer, but what probably hurt her was she never danced on stage....she had no stage presence or performance. As you can see our top selling artists....past and present....didn't need to scream at the top of their lungs to get noticed, i.e. Madonna & Britney & JLo....I guess that shows that image is very important....and being sexy helps. Judy Torres and Cynthia are not known for being very sexy women....and being around for 15 years has changed nothing!

To everone that responed that Lisa Lisa was a freestyle artists.....are wrong! She was considered Dance/R&B....her producers...Full Force.....never produced Freestyle Music. I thought about naming Lisa Lisa, and my decision was based on her several TV interviews and knowing her personally that she never said she was a Freestyle singer cause she wasn't. She never performaed with any other Freestyle artist in any shows. If anything she's a Pop Artist....there's nothin g Freestyle about "Head To Toe", "All Cried Out", "Let The Beat Hit THem".
PS....Shannon is not a Freestyle artist and never was.

Yo tran man!!!!!!!!!1

Yes indeed Cynthia did perform in Canada, but there's a big difference going to Canada over night and performing for 1000 people...and going to Japan for one month, performaing in packed stadiums as the Headliner! Winning awards, doing major TV interviews, even winning the Japanesse Grammy, not to mention getting paid the big bucks, which Cynthia has done NONE OF THE ABOVE!!!!

Track Act! Track Act! Track Act! That's all she ever was and all she ever will be. I think she's a nice girl, but I stand by my opinion. SHE MADE NO MAJOR DENT IN MAIN STREAM POP MUSIC!

MARKLUVZCYNTHIA

Lisa Lisa and Shannon were not Freestyle artists.
Yes Cynthia has been on many compilation albums, that is not due to her credit......anyone putting out this kind of album can use the records from the company...it doesn't mean that it's a great record, some are used as fillers. I'm not taking away from her talent! I remember seeing her perform at the very beginning, and the only way she was able to fill up a club was when she would perform with 3 or 4 other Freestyle artists...I.E. Judy Torres, Johnny O, Rio Sisters....and I think that was packaged that way becuase George Vascones managed them all!
He managed several MicMac artists including Judy Torres who was on Profile.

Lisa Lisa and Shannon were not Freestyle artists.
As to your comment about Judy's video bugdet...there is NO WAY THAT VIDEO COST 5 FIGURES TO MAKE!!!!!!!!!
I remeber many many a time Judy Torres performing at the beginning of her career when she was mocked on stage for her weight and comic performance while she threw herself all over the stage in a poor attempt to dance, and inspire the crowd. There was mass laugter and heckeling with most of the club screaming "GO GORDA!!!" I think she is a great singer but sequence shirts and black spandex wasn't cutting it!!!! That was most of her wardrobe back then....and as the years have past they haven't gotten any better.

i do admit that Lisa Lisa is a pop/ dance artist but her first two hits were LATIN HIP HOP strAight up. maybe they weren't consider that when they fisrt came out but you ask a lot of old school people and they will tell you that she was consider one of the first latin hip hop artist! I also read many interviews with full force that say they were the poineers in the latin hip hop movement. growing up in Miami I always heard Lisa Lisa's "i wonder if i take u home", and "can you feel the beat" in every freestyle mix, plus i seen her perform a million times in the late 80's with mad freestyle artist! and check out the tommy boy compilations and joey gardner mentions and includes her first two hits on vol 1 & 2 as Latin hip hop/ freestyle tracks. without a doubt she is definitely part of that era.....

BBoy3000...

I hear you and you make a lot of sense......lets just say lets agree to disagree. You definitely know your music, but lets just say that I'm sure Lisa Lisa agrees with me.....Latin Hip-Hop probably was Lisa Lisa but then when the music changed and became Latin Freestyle....she jumbed off the boat.

Get back to me......FreestyleWizard!

according to all the criteria U listed...Nayobe definately qualifies as a queen of freestyle if u are going to chose one. Safire, Judy Torres, Cynthia, they are all the princesses of freestyle. Nayobe has the honor of being the artist with the first real latin hip-hop record. None of the women you mentioned can claim that.

Cynthia has no sex appeal? what planet r u from! LOL!

im just playin' wit u man! But let me know wassup!

peace,
Mark

Nayobe is definately the first lady & queen of freestyle (aka latin hip hop)

It's true...Lisa Lisa ,...after releasing her 1st hits....wasn't involved with the other stuff that came along.

But she is definitely part of this genre's movement.

& It's true that this music wasn't called "Freestyle" back then. It was just "Latin Hip-Hop", "Underground", or plainly..."Club" music. Or even "Dance".
I don't recall it being labeled as Freestyle until waaaay after. Back then, it was just about the "sound", ...it really diddn't have a specific "label".

Although Shannon & Tina B, are not really "Freestyle", ...they were more in the Breakdance, Dance-Funk, R&B categories.

But their sound is PART of this culture, regardless of what ANYONE says. It was all about the "sound".

The music at that time was still in it's early stages (1982-84-85) & still evolving, & really diddn't have a stable ground or name "label".
If u were around back in da day...you'd hear most of these artists on the same playlist on radio & clubs.

I love ALL MUSIC, & ALL these artists!
I listen to all of them faithfully, & not only is their music good, ...but their music brings back good memories.
& thats all I need to know.

waa-waa-waaaaa!

Hey MarkLuvCynthia.....
Nayobe may have been the Queen for a hot minute but she must have pawned her crown cause it didn't last long.
And some how I don't know if she bought it or if they gave to her, but it now shines brightly on Safire's beautiful head!
Just kidding....NOT!.......hahahaha.......I think you're cool MarK

PS...if you ever meet Cynthia and get married, I'll dance at your wedding. I heard Hawaii is a lovely honeymoon spot.

Company B........
I agree with you and you definitely know your music....I know that if Lain Hip-Hop stayed with the same quaility of music, the music wouldn't have ended up in the dumpster. I've heard some music in my time that should have been cleaned with tolet paper becuase it was Ca-Ca😀 ...hahaha.
Ifyou're ever in need of some Charmen, give me a call!

Antonio crowns Sa-Fire as a Freestyle Goddess.

😎

-Antonio

P.S: A princess gives commands, and looks at a mirror 24/7. A Queen also. lol

But a Goddess, sends her cries all across the world to be heard, she is embedded in the hearts of many. Through her wisdom in her tunes, many if not millions and millions are touched, and thus, their lives can change forever, because those tunes helped inspire and pave the way to happiness.

Since when does a Queen do that? HA! 😀
