okay not for nuthin but do they play the same twenty songs and does the music player work when it feels like????

I have XM and the dance stations are excellent...

And yes, same here. HD or regular FM wouldn't do me any good in Florida.. Still, I'm only down on HD because I don't believe there will be any audience...

I'm listening to this right now - I am enjoying it! I wish that one of the satellite companies would pick this up rather than HD radio - from the little I looked into HD radio it is really localized. As I am not located in the NY area (well, other than this weekend while I am visiting) I wouldn't be able to get this even if it was on HD radio. I am not really impressed with Sirius dance though, so I would doubt they would pick it up, which sucks.

I'll have to listen to this at home on my desktop speakers to try out the quality. If he ends up putting mixes on it that would be fabulous!

HD radio sucks SAL because it compromises the AM band..

Alot of us like to DX at night and now that FULL TIME AM IBOC has been authorized, its gonna be VERY HARD doing so!! (Nothing but noise all over the band)

Its not as bad on FM,but AM should remain ANALOG like it always has been....

are you sure? hd is boasting that the AM sound comes in as if it were Fm (I always hated the stale sound of AM in my car!)

yea, at times, it sounds like the same songs but i havent heard any freestyle songs repeated yet. they do need to add some more obscure freestyle songs to thier lineup.

Seems to work fine and sounds good.

But will they play stuff from Raquela, Manny, Elissa, you know, the new kids on the block? (I don't mean NKOTB!)

time will tell. if the station takes off, I could see them adding new school to thier roster. I wouldnt mind hearing some New Kids stuff, although Im not fan of thier but I respect them as successful music artists. It would make it sound more like HOT 97. I would like to hear the old HOT 97 versions of Rick Astly, Paula Abdul and other dance/pop artists.

Oooooohhhhh..........Pink Floyd!

Lemme tell ya, Bay Area radio stations are effen weak!

We had a Hot 97 until 1996 or so until it was sold. Then Wild 94.9 stepped in to fill the void and was slammin' for several years. Now it just plays gangsta rap. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...........

The closest thing we have now to a dance station is Energy 92.7. It's pretty good but focuses mostly on euro dance and its signal isn't strong enough to cover the entire Bay. This is an area that stretches at least 100 miles from north to south.

Our next option is Movin' 99.7. This station sucks because it plays to people's nostalgia and doesn't play what I'm hearing right now on this new Hot 97. You can forget about new freestyle on their station.

Our third option is La Kalle which plays mostly reggaeton. Need I say anything more?

INTERNET RADIO ROCKS!!!!!!

BTW, I don't mind NKOTB every now and then, I didn't mean for it to come out like that.

Have a nice day everyone!!!!! 🙂

The station is great the way it is now. Having Sirius add this station would be great but unrealistic. HD FM is free radio once you purchase the receiver so to get dance music exposed to the masses I would think HD is the way to go. I have Sirius so if sirius adding it would be a good second alternative. I only want this station to play quality tracks like the original hot 103 did so Manny, Raquala would most certainly qualify but the rest of the new school would be highly questionable and must be on a track by track basis.

I definitely agree....only the best deserve that kind of exposure.

Maybe it'll force these other people to up their game.

So TRUE and VERY important! Rick Astley, Paula Abdul, Fine Young Cannibals - all the people Hot 97 used to play back in the day. I could remember when I liked just about every song that was played on Hot 97. That's insane if you ask me. There were so many different TYPES of music and somehow, everything they chose to play was good enough that even if it was NOT my type, I liked it. Amazing...

I disagree.. Why would it be unrealistic for XM or Sirius to add this station? I mainly disagree about purchasing an HD receiver because "most" people aren't going to do it. People aren't going to stumble across originalhot97 on the web and decide to buy an HD receiver to hear it. They'll just stick with the web (when they're home) and listen to something else in their car.

"Most" people don't customize their vehicles with aftermarket receivers. Most people have stock setups and have no ambition or reason to replace what comes stock - which is very good nowadays... So Most people are not going to hear the station or even know about it if it goes HD. However, if it were an XM or Sirius station - people WOULD stumble upon it - and those people would "talk" and tell their friends - and Those people would tune in. And then Those people would tell their friends...

FORGET HD! Ole, strange potbelly Tom with his HD receiver sitting right next to his Continuum Transfunctioner and Flux-Capacitor doesn't have any friends to tell about the station anyway.

I highly agree! The original Hot 103 was Excellent but did you forget the original Hot 97 before it went all R&B? Even in the early to mid 90s, Hot 97 was still an EXCELLENT station when it was playing pop-type songs by Rap groups.. Remember songs like "My mind's playin' tricks on me" or "Strobelight" or "Mr. Wendel" or "Brand New Flava For Your Ear" or "Boombastic" (I didn't get all the song names correct because I'm not a fan of Rap - but the music was catchy and I liked the songs".

Dance music isn't only Freestyle, of course.. But Freestyle should be the most played music of the station. 60% Freestyle / 40% Top Dance Tracks.

And not only that.. The Friday Night Techno Rave was a favorite of MANY people during the mid 90s. The Saturday Night Dance Party is a MUST. And the All-Night Saturday Night House Party is very important as well.. This will bring in a mixture of just about EVERYBODY who likes music..

All very important in my opinion...

they just announced 4 hours of classic dance at 10pm from Zachary's Long Island on the classic hot 97!
