Yesterday there was a review of KTU's Beatstock in the NY Daily News. And it wasnt a very positive one at all. They said that most of the acts in the first half of the show were one hit wonders...and that if u closed your eyes, u might as well have been listening to the radio. However...here is what they had to say about the freestyle acts...get your guns ready guys...lol:

"The freestyle showcase in the second half was reminiscent of last year's Beatstock lineup. Judy Torres, The Cover Girls and K7 gave rousing performances that were worthy of any tribute to back in the day. But TKA, the forefathers of freestyle, looked and moved like an aged gospel trio in their matching white suits".

How dare they talk about TKA like that???

Not a big deal, can't please everybody, right?

I saw some pictures on the KTU website. Cynthia looks good as usual. That's enough to get my vote. 🙂 She look like she was gettin DOWN too! lol, But who were the girls with her?

This is a Great opportunity for a TKA publicist (nina ?) to get on
the Daily News's ass - invite them to a TKA show - and ask them to do a real Write up on TKA.

To TKA publicist: This is a Great opportunity to use this as a stepping stone for free publicity.

After all we all know that TKA is one of the Best and their on stage
performances are excellent.

Daily News does not what they are talking about once it came down to freestyle freefall it went crazy out there. Every one was off there chairs. So they better get it right because the whole two day of beatstock was of the wall and no one could say anything about that I am so glad that Freestyle was out there Doing what they are know for doing. Myself I would like to thank every one who supports Freestyle for ever and on behalf of Joey K. I would like to send my love to all the positive minded people and all the negative minded people and let them open there eyes and ears and listen to the music with there soul and not with there negativity. Thank You Clubfreestyle for letting me express myself being a freestyle lover.

I remember when THE DAILY NEWS helped with the "PROJECT PUERTO RICO" show in NASSAU COLISEUM way back in 1989. funny how they try to rip apart the artists they once worked with.

Well have been to all the beatstocks so far its true though half the acts didnt even deserve to be on stage. The singer for the roc project wasnt the original singer it was somebody else. The Cover girls what a joke u can tell they were being half lipsicked by angel clivelles voice. They were wrong about most of the freestyle like Joey Kid and Judy Torres and coro and K7 and george lamond but for TKA speaking it was the worst performance they ever done.

I've never seen a really objective review come out of the Daily News. I just read the article and before reading it I thought it might've been written by the always-negative Jim Farber, but apparently they only hire negative writers as a rule. Take it from where it comes and don't take it personally.

Well, hey, part of it is true.

It's the same pattern and line-up for every concert, every Beatstock, every show, every concert, every Beatstock, etc. etc. etc. I think you get my point.

These artists' might as well be classified along with some of the "Disco" acts because their material is so outdated. There is very little creativity when it comes Freestyle shows/sets.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: COME UP WITH SOME NEW MATERIAL AND DEBUT IT AT ONE OF THESE CONCERTS! OPEN UP WITH SOMETHING NEW, NOT SOMETHING THAT'S OVER TEN YEARS OLD. I, FOR ONE, LOVE THE CLASSICS, BUT I'M SO OVER IT. THE YEAR IS 2003. GIVE ME SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

No wonder why Freestyle is in the state it's in now. Don't knock the newspaper reviews. Instead, think of it as a wake-up call. A review like that can damage the reputation of Freestyle and knock it into oblivion.

carlito - i wanted to post my feelings but knew i would get some negative reactions, but since you did it, i will back u up. i totally agree with you.

perhaps these artist need to stop saying "yes" everytime ktu/vito bruno calls for them to perform. when u have something new to promote then u should promote your ass away!! and perhaps the occasional performance just to let the world know your still out there! but until then don't bother, it becomes boring after a well! the public craves for you when you make rare appearances & in the long run it's better for your career and of course you can ask for more money!

freestyle artist - take it as a wake up call! if you want to be on top again - work on your image, a routine and kick some ass!! there's alot of competition out there and if a record company see's your determination, u never know, they may just sign you up!

SafireFan- Thank you. By the way, don't ever think twice about posting your opinions. Hell, if these people can't handle it, too bad.

We need more people like you and I who ain't afraid to express ourselves, especially when it comes to music.

As for the artist's themselves, I don't think it's ever going to change. I can only offer hope, but I'm not the one on stage performing. It has to come from them, and them alone.

But again, post your feelings. I don't want to be the exception all the time! I can only imagine how many people in here dislike me, because of my educated views on so many different topics.

thank u i feel much better now -

As much as i love my old school music and it's artists, i think creative criticism is what they may need. i would love to see them enjoy the success they once had, but sometimes i wonder how bad they want it themselves -

from what I saw in the pictures, "DEE ROBERTS " was the only one who looked like she took time out to prepare for her show, they had costumes and the whole shit! that was really cool.

I think I have worn Jeans on stage maybe two times, and that was because it was a last minute thing, and I didn't have time to prepare for it, but I usually like to look nice on stage, some could have at least down that.

As for the Daily News review, I don't think you should worry about the daily news saying it, because they most likely have no idea what freestyle reallly is, you should worry when the genre itself starts saying those things..lol

Nyasia- I don't even think you fall into this catergory. For someone who's been out for over 10 years, you always have something "fresh and so clean" for the fans. Who cares what you wear?! I wouldn't care if you came out with a pair of "chanclas", some rollers in your hair, and a pair of pink spandex with a tube top that you bought from somewhere on Southern Boulevard.

Although, you NEVER made that CD for me. Hmmmmm......yo no se, 'ma. 🙂
