People want to know why Stylin' Free / Metropolitan doesn't release any new artist. Well the reason is the product we receive just isn't happening! I still get an average of about 12-25 demos a day. I've actually gotten to the point where I don't even listen to much of it. If the package is really creative, then I might be inclined to check out the contents, other than that, lately it just sits. Another way I might listen to something, is if I get a follow up call, then I might give it a listen. There are two things that can be happening here; 1, I'm right and all thats coming in is junk. Or 2, I'm just a bit too picky. Either way, the market once again suffers.
Well, my crew and I (Stylin' Free Productions), which consist of Angel Cosme ( The Man behind Blis's Monter Jamz) Ray Soto & Cisco Ortega from California and Myself) decided that the best way to give everyone a fair chance and at the same time have some fun is to hold a Talent Contest. This talent contest will begin in Sept at Club Blis, then to California in Oct, Texas in NOV and Chicago in DEC. We will wait a couple of months till March during the Winter Music Conference and there hold the Finals. We will give someone a Single Deal, a Compilation Deal and an Advance for $5,000. We will also Fly and set up Hotel for the winner in each state to compete in Miami. We are going to focus only on the Dance market. Freestyle, House, Trip Hop, Techno, Drum & Bass, Pop-Dance and even selected Urban Dance Acts (Sort of like K7 / Rob Base)
What we do need is EVERYONE's Support. At the end of the entire competition we will compile "The 2002 Talent Tour Dance Compilation" and release it through Stylin' Free / Metropolitan Records.
Stylin' Free will not be Judging at the venues but will elect 3 Judges for each Competition. We will do our best to pick a good 3. But, the Judges will not be soley responsible for the winners. We will allow audience influence upon each of the Judge's Choice.
