Just wanted to let ya know.......

The latest KTU ratings came out and our Freestyle Sunday night show is doing AMAZING in the ratings. The ratings are as high as the ever been !

Also, starting next week, the freestyle lunch mix schedule will change. Because of the success of my mixshow, KTU has added freestyle another day. I will now be mixing Freestyle every MONDAY, WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAY. However, one of the days conflict with my schedule, so I don't know if I'll be able to do all 3 shows...if not, its definitely 2 of the 3.

I'll also be mixing 2 hours of freestyle this Saturday night from 9-11 pm.

keep up the good work! you definitely have a lot to do with them ratings! i know i personally mainly tune in to see what new tunes you will spin!
 
Congratulations to you and KTU! Maybe this will convince KTU to add new freestyle songs to their rotation. You would have to pick them of course with a little input from the ClubFreestylers.

Sam and Dayer, which new freestyle songs would you like KTU to add ?????? I had the oppurtunity to present new freestyle to them today, and besides "What you did to me" by Rockell, nothing else thats been released is really KTU material unfotunately

Great news Johnny, congratulations to you and Judy because, let's face it, between her personality and your skills, you guys create the magic!! The music is just the glue that holds it together....Now, do you think that maybe, just maybe, they will become a little bit more liberal with their song selections from 9-11? As much as I love listening, hearing Expose ALL the time kinda sucks. I do think that if I hear Stevie B "I Wanna Be the One" one more time my head might just explode. By the way, exactly how much have the numbers jumped from the winter ratings? Once again, congrats....This is a big F*CK YOU to everyone who says: "Nobody listens to freestyle anymore".

I don't know the exact #'s. And in regards to the song selection from 9-11, you are exactly right. I concentrate on 11-midnight...but I have supplied KTU with over 75 freestyle songs that are not in their library. If we get a request for one of them songs, it gets played. Otherwise the playlist sticks to whats in the library. I guess my suggestion would be to request for other songs. Believe me, the only requests we get on Sunday night is for songs like "I wanna be the one, Spring Love, Dreamboy/Dreamgirl", etc.

Hey if KTU hired me to produce the enitire freestyle show, believe me, I can do wonders !

hey maybe they should hire you to produce the entire freestyle program. who has that job?? you and judy are the most qualified. i love judy but she plays too much of her own music. don't get me wrong i think her songs r awesome but hearing them constantly turns me off from them.
well hope you play at another club nearby ,soon!!!

Bout time they replaced the classics with freestyle. As always I will be there.

The best time is your Sunday 11-12 PM mix with all the new/rare freestyle.
 
Aim4night....Judy doesn't pick the songs that are played on Sunday nights..so don't think she's playing her songs on purpose. The music department selects the song selection in advance.


Marc, the lunch mixes will continue to be half hour, with them being extended 1 hr occassionaly.

You know brand new isn't really 'new' for ktu. We all know how many times we had to hear "I'll Be loving you" by Collage even though the song was out for a while before KtU ever picked it up.

My comment about new stuff really wasn't worded correctly. I meant "newer" stuff thats not so mainstream & played out & if I made a list for you it would be too long 😉

as for the Sunday night thing, I remember calling once & requesting "those were the times" by Miguel Reyes & Judy was like "I don't have any Miguel Reyes here but maybe Johnny does, I will ask him to play it" so I totally understand the 9-11 rotation of Sa-Fire, Judy, TKA, Cover Girls, Cynthia, Judy, TKA, Corina, Cynthia etc...
 
Hey Dayer...the only reason KTU started playing "I'll Be loving you" 1 year later is because KTU wasn't around when the song was released. KTU started playing it when they first came on the air in 1996. So you can't blame them for treating it like a new song when they first started. The majority of the audience never heard the song before, only the freestyle fans did.

What 'newer' songs would you like them to play ? Just remember, if it wasn't a hit 3 years ago, it won't be a hit today. I understand you feel the 'play out ' the songs..but every single radio station in the US plays out songs. Its just part of radio making a hit a hit I guess. But I totally understand your views and i dont' disagree. But I just don't know what 'newer' freestyle songs they should play

Also, its not easy for a radio station to play 3 hours of freestyle hits without it sounding reputitious. There just wasn't that many freestyle hits. I know the hardcore fans want to hear Miguel Reyes, and others. But the average listener never heard those songs. They weren't radio hits back then, so they aren't as familiar as "Come into my arms". But at least they let me play what ever i want from 11-midnight in my mix, so people can hear great songs like 'Those were the times' and many others.

Perhaps there should be some way that newer songs could be occasionally introduced. I don't think we're talking about a hardcore obscure freestyle song revolution where we forget about all the well known songs and replace them. It would just be really nice if maybe one or two songs out of the 11? an hour was a lesser-known song. I must note that this occasionally does happen. I almost flipped when I heard Judy play "Listen To My Cries" and "Made Up My Mind". However its been a while since I've heard anything like that out of the ordinary. I don't see how this could possible turn off any listeners, hardcore or average. Especially the way Judy talks up a song, it will sound familiar. A good example would be to play "Make The Way" instead of "Together Forever" once in a while. Same artist, same sound right? Things have gotten so much better since Judy's show first started (ie-from the first to second week it was basically the same songs in the same order), and with these ratings, we can only go up from here! Congrats Johnny, just some food for thought!
