I feel what y`all are saying about changing a couple of things but yet still have elements that identify it with freestyle.I been doing that for over two year. Not on every track but some of them.Every track I do that isnt freestyle(rap, pop, urban etc)gets a huge dose of freestyle elements..like the chord progression or the melody..or even the specific freestyle`ish back up vocal.Just a thought but ya know what I always thought the main element of freestyle was......the singer. How else could so many songs have nearly the same beat, chords, structure, theme, and tempo? The only thing that truly makes it new fresh and diferent is the vocalist.(with the exception of remixes, editing, and that stupid over used robot vocode effect)
How else could Mic Mac put out so many freakin songs with exactly the same edits,sounds/patches,and writing structure?
I think that one of the real secrets to bringing freestyle forward is to Respectfully retire the old Legends(when is the last time one of these so called legends made a song like the ones we loved back in the day)
Yes the popularity, support, and intrest should be focused more on those who are gonna bring it..not those who had it back in the day.Although those legends play a major role in the influences of some of us,that doesnt mean we have to hope and pray that they will save this music.Time to grow up freestyle...cant stay in the 80`s forever, especially cause its almost 2003 and rap is getting played out...we need a revolution!

Both Cynthia & George LaMond were able to pull it off in 1999...

I still disagree - the more Freestyle has changed the worse it has sounded...

I wouldn't. I think they have alot to offer us still. If they still want to record and offer us new music, by God, let them! Don't discourage them. Other genres of music allowed thier forefathers to continue, so why not allow our past kings and queens to offer us new sound as well? we cant shut them out.

I agree Rhoq. Even those who want it to evolve more admit new school isn't that good (generally speaking). Freestyle from 2000 has evolved quite a bit from that of 88'. It sounds worse and worse with each passing year. Perhaps it's because it continues to take one more step away from it's roots with each passing year....Coincidence? I doubt it.

It must be me but i still get sense of "old school" with the new music with TKA, Johnny O, etc. because its the vocals that grabs me now, not the beat.

This is so funny...we are all so stuck on our beliefs! lol It's all fun though, right?

Ok, for the MILLIONTH time, freestyle is a SUB genre. It has LITTLE room to evolve. NOT because of certain fans (like me), but because it is what it is. Techno is a SUB genre. You think it can evolve much while staying Techno? Of course not...same with freestyle. YES, you can change a few things and experiment, but there is a FINE line for this SUB genre. It's already being classified as other things (ex:euro)...I say change the name at least (for new school) as suggested in the other thread. OK, your turn Kenny :O)

Right! That's what we want to hear! TKA's "When Will I See u Again" is a very good song to me. It has that hard hitting old school feel, yet it's not old school. I have no problem with that type of new school at all.

so what u are saying ken is that its the vocals that you are looking for...so does feel the music give u that freestyle FEEL???

i mean come on now...the beat, the vocals and the love theme is what are the elements that make freestyle...u cant change any of that...and ant i love how u keep saying its a sub genre!!! thats perfect!!! i still dont think freestyle has to evolve...i think freestyle shoudl do the oppisite...it should go back to its roots...first of all get the euro sound out, and stay away from the pop!! bring the LATIN BACK INTO THE MUSIC!!!!!

Amen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even though all freestyle lovers arent latinos they all flocked to it for that lationo feel (Batter up here comes the info-soc not being latin hip hop argument again batting an even .250 on clubfreestlyle.com)
I say take it to the Bronx put some sazon in the mix and bring the flava back!

LMAO

Ma - you are a trip.. Arroz con pollo - cafe con leche..... Ahhh

When are you djing next??

I can't believe that this crew didn't like the Freshkids j/k..

En serio, the Santana's new music is amazing and it certainly beats all of the "new" over processed crap out there..

Give me a mic, cheap studio singers and an Afrika Bambaata 12" and I will make a record too.. LMAO

We need the flava - no changes just talent..

And look how far TECHNO evolved from the 80's. It's totally different yet is remained very near to its original roots with its defination. some say techno formed even earlier than what we know. they say it came up in the early to mid 80's.

no....we definetly need CHANGES BIGTIME!!!

Alot of mt friends hear the "freestyle beat" and automatically refer to it as "80'S". We have to stop that by getting a new sound and new themes. let not have them sing about more the "love" and "break-ups". afterall, its not "LOVESTYLE"! Let them be "FREE" to do any "STYLE" that they think would help start a new generation.

Hee hee and thow an accapuria on the beat too!

I just doing fill in spots right now. I look for some steady work soon the festivals are coming up now and in the summer I love to work them. I am just working on tracks in the mean time and trying to figure out how to you guys put up tracks with a hyperlink attached I keep trying and cant and its pissing me off!!!!! oh well back to our favorite subject estilo libre

I think that was a contradiction? Or do you mean evolve the emotion? lIke not a bout love and break ups but post break up depression turning to violence
"now that your gone I cut up your $h!+
I really really hate you!!! You are such a D!c
I got me a restraining order
stay away now from our kids
I got me a new man you stay with that ho liz

well, i meant alot of people are saying "if they change the topic, it iant freestyle". let them do other focuses other than "love", like ALL OTHER MUSIC DOES. I mean even HIP-HOP has many different catogories (love, hate, death, work, play, etc, etc, etc.) why cant FREESTYLE BROADEN ITS BOUNDRIES?

Kenny - what was the most recent Freestyle (new at that) that you just recently purchased?? Compilations do not count..

There truly isn't anything out there worth the ducats now..

I bet sales from old stuff are soaring

One sure fire way to help Freestyle is to kill the "Planet Rock" sound. If you start there, good things are sure to follow. Next, begin to phase-out the electronic sounds of trance and techno and bring back the strings and horns...I don't care if the BPMs remain in 130's as the current trend in music is the faster pace...

Thats right Bella our (speaking for myself) 30+ crownd need to replace those worn and unravled tapes you see all over the raod with CDs
