I feel what y`all are saying about changing a couple of things but yet still have elements that identify it with freestyle.I been doing that for over two year. Not on every track but some of them.Every track I do that isnt freestyle(rap, pop, urban etc)gets a huge dose of freestyle elements..like the chord progression or the melody..or even the specific freestyle`ish back up vocal.Just a thought but ya know what I always thought the main element of freestyle was......the singer. How else could so many songs have nearly the same beat, chords, structure, theme, and tempo? The only thing that truly makes it new fresh and diferent is the vocalist.(with the exception of remixes, editing, and that stupid over used robot vocode effect)
How else could Mic Mac put out so many freakin songs with exactly the same edits,sounds/patches,and writing structure?
I think that one of the real secrets to bringing freestyle forward is to Respectfully retire the old Legends(when is the last time one of these so called legends made a song like the ones we loved back in the day)
Yes the popularity, support, and intrest should be focused more on those who are gonna bring it..not those who had it back in the day.Although those legends play a major role in the influences of some of us,that doesnt mean we have to hope and pray that they will save this music.Time to grow up freestyle...cant stay in the 80`s forever, especially cause its almost 2003 and rap is getting played out...we need a revolution!
