It's no contest - for record sales, fame and accomplishments Madonna is the winner by a landslide. She is also the one one who has stayed consistently on top (although Janet still does well) but Madonna had a generation of women (and I am sure some men lol) dressing like her, and there was a time she was considered to be the most photographed and famous woman in the world. No one else in that poll can say the same thing.

Belive it or not, I have to say Madonna. Yes; Mariah and Whitney and celine has set many record sales records and had big songs. Janet has been succesful without the help of her brothers. Alicia Keys, Britney and Jessica Simpson still has plenty of time(Britney is still a HO!!) But Madonna has really set the music world on it's feet, and had a huge musical and social impact.

and to add to what you said, Janet has not been successful WITHOUT the help of her brothers - she was successful BECAUSE of her brothers. If you know anything about Janet's history, she started out in sitcoms like Good Times and then she was in the 80's show "Fame". While in Fame she recorded a couple of really terrible albums before teaming up with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and the rest is history. BUT if it wasn't for her family being what it was, I don't think she would have had the opportunities that she did from a young age.
 
And Alicia Keys is already big, I think in a couple of years, she will be really huge. Britney so badly wants to be Madonna, but the reality is, she is not. Jessica has a really great voice, I can see her having an album with a huge song like Whitney, Mariah and Celine had

The difference between Madonna and others like Jessica, Mariah, Celine and Whitney is that Madonna has whatever "it" is - she has a charisma that leaps off the screen and forces you to take notice whether you love her or hate her. The others are great entertainers but don't have that certain "star quality" that Madonna had (more so in her earlier career) as far as I can see...
