Little Delimar Vera has been told the truth - that the South Jersey woman she knew as Mommy is really an impostor who kidnapped her when she was 10 days old, officials said yesterday. "I think she's fine physically, but I can't imagine what she's going through emotionally," said New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services spokesman Andy Williams. "Obviously, it's a traumatic event." The 6-year-old's counselor broke the news days ago, Williams said. Delimar is having a hard time accepting the situation, Philadelphia's NBC10 reported. Today, she may see her real mother, Luz Ada Cuevas, if a judge approves a plan to transfer her custody gradually. "We want to do it quickly, but not sooner than she can handle," Williams said. Carolyn Correa of Willingboro, N.J., jailed on $1 million bail on charges she kidnapped Delimar in 1997 from her Philadelphia home and set a fire to cover her tracks, still insists the child is her own, her lawyer said. "I don't know if she truly believes it was her child, or if there was some postpartum depression going on," said Jeffrey Zucker. Correa is believed to have delivered a stillborn baby shortly before taking Delimar. Correa, 42, even let police take a DNA swab from inside the girl's mouth when Cuevas became suspicious, Zucker said. The test proved the girl reared as Aliyah was really Delimar, whom authorities had thought incinerated in the blaze.
