:welcome Just to let everybody know, there is a new BREAKBEAT song out called "never be alone" by Lucas Prata. A different version was originally released before this one came out. It has a beat very similar to that of Sonique's first hit.
_This is not a freestyle artist. Lucas Prata is a latin artist but just happened to release the Valentin Remix of "never be alone" which has a breakbeat and is being played on some radio stations or is listed as an "add" to playlists despite the fact that the previous version may have been recieving regular airplay already. I'm just informing everybody so that they don't try to buy the album and find out that there is no freestyle on it if that remix isn't on there or buy something else thinking it was that song. Here in Arizona, Energy 92.7/101.1 Arizona's Dance Radio has been just recently giving the breakbeat remix regular airplay, and the proper name of the remix can be found here www.energyarizonafm.com single may be available in stores soon
_other songs/artists similar to Sonique's beat:
La Rissa: Someone to love me (hollywood remix)

China Dolls: I know how to love you

Sharyn Maceryn: a little more time (remix)

Lucas Prata: never be alone (Valentin radio edit)

Artists songs with similar sound/beat:

set u free - Planet soul > a little bit of ecstacy - Jocelyn Enriquez
(and also similar in ways: in a dream (carnival radio edit) - Jossette > look into my eyes - Daisey
_______________________________________
I'll fly with you - GiGi D'Agostino > love goes on (original mix) - Natalise > Here with you (remix) - Malyssa > was it me - SX4 > come to me - Sara
_______________________________________
better off alone - Alice DeeJay > higher & higher - dj jurgen?
_______________________________________
9pm till I come > sun is shinning > fine day
_______________________________________
robin fox - i see stars > christina marie - now I know

- same beat, but rearranged rhythm

but hip hop and r&b has taken it to the extreme and it seems like it had better effect there starting with Li'l Jon & the Eastside Boyz... some of you might know what I'm talking about.

The purpose of this post was for free advertisement to these artists and to introduce some new artists to people that might not have heard of them and also giving people an idea of what style it is.

also there is new music available from:
L.I.V. - "journey of love" single in stores now! (contains freestyle and trance, extended south beats mix, very nice vocals)

DND feat. Angie Irons - ex ex girlfriend brand new single in stores now! (contains 2step/soul and house) (similar to daniel beddingfield "gotta get thru this" dnd radio version)(produced by dnd, who also produced "gotta get thru this" radio edit (2step version) very soulful vocals

Seelenluft "manila" very hot single in stores now! (groovy house music, very catchy, contains break-like version)

Roc Project f/ Tina Novak "deja vu (it's hard to believe)" single in stores now! (contains house, breakbeats, pop/dance with a freestyle feel, strong vocals)

Kevin Aviance "give it up" IN STORES NOW! (house, extended house versions, nice sounding catchy chorus - big in clubs) (contains no breakbeat versions)

_look out for "FUTURE FLAVA'S", a list of brand new artists that may become popular or your favorites in the future, some you probably heard about, haven't heard of, or heard but didn't know what it was.

Very good point.

Here in Canada, breakbeat in additionto breaks, electro, energetic 2 step, planet rock and the traditional old school hearthrob are an integral part of the freestyle sound. Artists need not be "freestyle" artists in order to have a freestyle remix of their single (there is nothing else freestyle about Sonique except for the first two singles from the debut album, latter releases are dance).

People in the US should be more open to what the new freestyle is, since here in Canada and in Germany and Brazil, we got that message a long time ago. Having freestyle remixes with branded artists on major labels to get new fans. We have plenty of new 16 year old kids liking Stevie B and Sonique filling up the dance floors at all ages club nights. A Canadian website like http://www.ginogina.ca , promoting Canada's new freestyle reality with breaks and breakbeat has over 6,000 members, mostly under 20 years old and 80% like our FREESTYLE. That's our current listener, current freestyle record buyer and our future. The current remix of Da Buzz-Alive by DJ Fusion of ginogina.ca is all the rave wherever it is aired and it is an unreleased bootleg of an eurodance song! Watch the crowd yell and screen when his freestyle mix is on as opposed to the Da Buzz original!

Some people in the US say because it is Jennifer Glass, Sharyn Maceren, Natalise or Larissa, oh it's freestyle but some kid like Lucas or a dance act like Da Buzz, oh not freestyle Get with the program guys, breaks, breakbeat and electro are poutting freestyle on the radio, be happy! Why aren't americans excited about JOCELYN ENRIQUEZ-WHY (Revolution Mix)??? WHY is the FREESTYLE hype for this established artist happening abroad instead of locally in the USA??? Most americans do not consider this mix freestyle. It is the top freestyle pick abroad for last month!!!!!

Nonetheless, We got the Lucas Prata single last week and have added to our playlist on Planet Freestyle.

P.S. Check out the new Sony Music Canada Canadian freestyle release brought by dashock.com MC Mario- Let it go , response has been huge!
http://www.dashock.com/audio/mcmario.rm MC Mario is a million selling DJ and NOT a freestyle artist. But "Let it go" is 100% freestyle with the traditional old school hearthrob elements, repetitive samples and planet rock but overall it has a breaks packaging to please everyone. and as Mario says it so well "it's a SONY baby!" Watch this one tear up canadian charts this summer and out freestyle back on the radio the way Joée's "better than you" did in 2003and is just getting the buzz abroad now.

cheers,

gb

Glad to hear Freestyle and Breakz are still doing well in other parts of the globe !! Shit, Make me want to fly out there party my ass off!! The US would be Like that too if the Hip Hop Sceane wasnt such a part of evry day life. Keep Doin Yo thing and hopefully it will start leakin out to other parts! Peace.

I must say that pop opened the doors for hip hop - to keep a long story short, the spice girls came out, huge success. It was just a little while later when Nsync, Backstreet Boyz, 5ive, take five, Lfo, O-town, and all these other artists started doing similar things after seeing and liking how the Spice girls did their thing. Then r&b artists like destiny's child and t.l.c. were making songs that were pop/r&b category.............. after a while pop and r&b started going more towards each other slowly taking over the charts, then people started doing this rap with r&b style (Ja Rule, Missy Elliot, etc.) breaking hip hop into the scene. Now it seems as pop music's very short phase has started dying out and now hip hop & r&b has taken over. During this entire process, Latin artists also started doing their thing. First it was Ricky Martin, and the same thing happened. It was just a matter of time that passed then came Marc Anthony, Enrique Iglesias, and Christina Aguilera & J-lo, who by the way, fused r&b and latin success together. (J-lo came first as a latin artists, but I didn't include her because she came more urban/rhythmic r&b). Notice that Britney Spears was a pro with all this - she went from pop to r&b, changing with the times..... Madonna however, went kind of backwards. She went towards a more freestyle sound as freestyle was dying, having less success with her most recent hits on top 40 stations and MTV's t.r.l....

Lets just say that most people with similar beats always try to be similar to the songs that became hits....
Jordan Knight "give it to you" > Sammie "i like it" > Khandi "don't think I'm not"
_they all have the half fast, half slow beats going.

then before that was something I didn't really understand:
why did "missing" by Everything But The Girl become popular and make it to light rock and K-lite stations, when "where do you go" by No Mercy just died? They have very similar sounds but rearranged rhythm.

Angelina with "release me" > S.F. Spanish Fly "I can see" > Kim Del Fierro "want me" > Adriana "until tomorrow"

Planet Soul "set u free" > No Mercy "where do you go" (triphouse remix) > Jocelyn Enriquez "a little bit of ecstacy"

Mon A Q "stay in love" > Planet Soul "music is my life

KromOzone Project "take my love" electro edit > ...i can't remember who sings "take me away"

Even now, Outkast's "the way you move" (from Atlanta) has a similar hit behind it > Twista f/ Kanye West "slow jamz" (collipark remix) - you may say it's quite different, one is a remix of an original song, and one is quite faster, but bottom line is that they have similar sounds during the chorus, the singing and fast rap vocals, and the rhythm & quad feel to it.

Many people have imitated the Ghosttown D.J.'s (dry freestyle beats with quad/bass and r&b vocals), for instance, InoJ - all three of her hits, Dana Harris "as we lay" - Just check out the SoSo Def Bass Allstars Compilations (which were done by Jermaine Dupri! hip hop so so def artist/producer in Atlanta) and get an idea of what I mean. KP & ENVI just took it to another level with "swing my way" (shawty swing my way) by having more complicated beats, but same bass/quad intro then vocals beginning.

I've noticed a few that have the breakbeat/treble sounds of La Rissa's "I do both Jay & Jane" - If you listen closely you will notice that her beat is very unique in a way, there is something about it and it's obvious if you hear it in another song.

Most of the Galaxy Freestyle Artists already sound somewhat similar. Quite a few of the artists on SPG music / freestyle heaven 4 have similar rhythms as well.

I purposely didn't mention "In A dream" by Rockell because I thought that it was too difficult to describe how similar that is to "in a dream" by Jossette - I just can't see any similarity in that - none. It's just not obvious.......... (hope most people get it...)

WELL, When it comes to freestyle , Most songs sound the same for reasons. you mentioned Angelina and Spanish Fly.......Same Producer. what you heard was his trade mark sound...His signiture sound if you will.

Galaxy Freestyle........All Produced By Randy Taylor Webber , again signiture sound...Same insterments..Same Studio.

Its the same with Slammin Sam , Lenny Linus, You can istantly identify thease Trade mark Beats. Sam With His explosions , Randy with his Wind Waves, Lenny with more of Trance / Break Feel , Noel Saucado with his Angelina / Spanis Fly Acid Bass and Organs

Then Jazzy Jim who was behind alot of the SF / Angelina Did his thing with Adrianna Untill Tomorrow. Alaxzander Gally behind the sceanes as well

Glen Gutteriez Doin His thing with MG , Sheryn Maceryn and Jocelyn.

Not to mention Randy , Sam , Lenny sometimes teaming up on projects,

To Top it all off all being from the bay seeing what works well for radio developing the bay sound.

In a nut shell.....Its all inner twined bro ..in different ways...Thats how you get the same sounding stuff but with your own unique Signiture sounds.

And Of Course Rockells In a Dream sounds like Jossettes...All Randy did was sell The Beat to Robins Entetainment.

As I was listening to one of my mix c.d.'s (over 76 minutes of nonstop mixing), I started wondering; All those people that made a freestyle song that starts off with a house beat, was there a reason for that? Did they do it thinking it would be more successful? Did they think they could fool the d.j.'s or radio d.j.'s into thinking it would sound different from what it really was? Did they believe that since house/trance is accepted a lot more than freestyle, if they start it (and sometimes end it) with a house beat, then it would make it easier for d.j.'s to mix it in a house mix and make them desire mixing it more often? Most d.j.'s will do a mix of house and trance, but if they hit a breakbeat, freestyle, or booty bass song, they will usually follow it with another breakbeat, freestyle, or booty bass song. I always wondered if people that bought the single for "i do both Jay & Jane" by La Rissa ever figured out if there was an extended version of the rave mix or if they thought it was something else other than the one they wanted because it had such a long trance/house intro that no one would expect to change into what it did. Maybe many people thought that short radio version was all they would get with a whole lot of house, and alternative versions (unless of course they bought or listened to the vynil - them I would expect that people would skip around to see what else it might sound like). How come there are no booty bass songs that start with a house beat (other than "shake it" (original mix) by New York City DJ's)? (Quad City DJ.'s doesn't count because that's more euro-house and only if you play the remix.) By the way, "shake it" by N.Y.C. dj's sounds like they are truly booty bass artists, but love to use the sounds and beats like what's on Angelina's first album. I remember how surprised I was when I bought that single and played it for the first time, I did not expect to hear what I heard at all. How come artists don't do r&b songs (with beats half the speed of dance music and fast treble) with the electro sounds? Why not try using a beat like Ludacris "what's your fantasy" or Twista's "slow jamz", keep the fast treble, remove the background rhythm and add the electro sounds (everything that you hear in "release me" without the beats)? Maybe I should keep my ideas to myself because as many years as I've been thinking of this, no one has done it yet. Mandy C.'s "always here" was the closest anyone has ever gotten to that style, and you can find that on DJ JUANITO's latest compilation: "wishing on a star". (I never expected "witshing on a star" to be a drum & bass song, but JUANITO did say he was going to change his style, and he did! How about starting off with a house beat then getting into the r&b rhythm beats half the speed of the dance beat with the electro sound? (for example, those of you that have heard "u can't stop me" by basement jaxx have a very good idea of what I mean. For those of you that don't know, think of "are you that somebody" by Aaliyah starting off with a house beat, then a breakdown, then hitting the timbaland beats, or "overnight celebraty" by Twista starting off with a house beat, then breaking down to the original beat which is half the speed of dance music? Maybe those of you that heard Kylie Minogue "red blooded woman" in a mix show know what I mean, but instead of the beginning breakbeat (that sounds like a "dj use for mixing" vynil record, it starts with a house beat?
I should also mention that Ludacris - "splash waterfalls" and Twista - "slow jamz" both came out around the same time, both sound very alike, and are usually always mixed together back to back on 2 stations here in Phoenix. There are also a whole lot of other urban songs that sound the same like the ones by trilleville "neva eva", t.i. "rubberband man", lil scrappy "headbussa",... etc and there are plenty new urban songs that I'm failing to mention because it will be too obvious for those of you that listen to, or have heard them. I'm sure you've heard them in a mix and realized that not only does it have the same beat, but the same bassline, and I'm sure you problably know what they are. Reggae has always used the same beat many times, so that's nothing new. I should stop here because if I continue typing, before you know it you will be reading about jazz, alternative, salsa, drum & bass, trip hop etc.
-I've also noticed similarity's in opera.............o.k., let me stop

good

Sticking with the original subject at hand...

At the end of the day, all of this does not change the fact that new new freestyle reality includes breaks, breakbeat, electro, energetic 2 step, planet rock and the tradiitonal old school hearthrob as an integral part of the sound.

Let's start highlighting and supporting tracks like Jocelyn Enriquez-Why (Revolution Mix) and be happy that a lot of these tracks make on the radio. It is a shame that an established artist like Jocelyn has this freestyle recognition abroad instead of at home in the USA where it counts.

As for the new freestyle reality that includes breaks and breakbeat, peeps in Canada, Germany and Brazil got the message a long time ago.

Agreed , And I feel This Is the direction Freestyle shoud be headed. Break Beatz and Trance are still doing well in The US with Todays Youth, So To combine Freestyle with thease sounds is Obviouse (to me at least).

I forgot to mention Suzan Britton on my f.f. FUTURE FLAVA'S report. Don't worry, it will be listed next time. One of the songs from my f.f. Future flava's report just started recieving airplay, DND f/ Angie Irons, "ex ex girlfriend, so I'm happy for DND, we will now have something more than just "gotta get thru this" on the radio! I guess 2step is not completely dead. Now where is Craig David?! This is his chance to do something - don't just give up or turn all r&b/soul/pop. Make another song similar to "fill me in"! Where is the Artful Dodger at? Speaking of this, So Solid Crew needs to do something as well.

There will be freestyle on the radio this weekend, MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, in Arizona radio stations, - for more info see my new topic and new post, "MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND.." - the # numbers > 99.3 104.7 92.3 98.7 92.3 92.7 101.1 104.3 < look out weekendz, every weekend could mean something until labor day, and K-lite no longer exists; no more good light rock music... Hall & oats; phil collins; beach boys; fine young cannibles; genises - is this over for Phoenix? NEW FORUM, "memorial day weekend" for more info... (currently on 104.7, "shawty swing my way")

Lucas is a good friend of mine. For those that dont know he was a dancer for George Lamond. This track is about a year old, but just released on Ultra Records. The Valentin Mix is on there. So is The Mig, Johnny Rocks and Klubjumpers mix as well as a Ballad. This single was number one on my radio show for months. This track has tons of cross-over potential. I love the Valentin Mix but the Johnny Rocks, Mig Extended and Ballad are my favorites. The Johnny Rocks brings out the true feel of the song. Lucas also has a great stage pressence and when he did a show for me here in Philly he blew the roof off. www.lucasprata.com He was also my feature article in US Dance Radio Magazine www.usdanceradio.com
