I'm at work and in a rush, my complete list of nominees is upcoming, but right now, I can't help but think of an unreleased white label promo which initially was to be released on Metropolitan Records-but the deal fell through. I have a feeling this one is going to wind up high on my Top Ten...produced by Charlie Babie, who I helped recruit for the project, this cut features a woman who is now a Chicago Public School Teacher...

"I Can't Promise You Love"...Marisa Lopez!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having not been released, this cut wound up as an underappreciated 12" classic. Does anyone recall the tune? Am I overhyping the thing? Let us in on your impressions.

Harv Roman.

SHOULDVE NEVER LET YOU GO of course, because it is THE best song ever, and def. LAW, becasue Missing Your Love is also HOT!!!!!

hey harv.....that is a great song.....i havent heard the whole thing but its on on mix cd i have by naw-t-boy nardi.....do you know him?.....tell us more about delamore.......charlie babie is awesome.....

De La Mor consisted of two Latinas from Chicago's North Side...Madeline Martinez and Sandra Canales. "Try To Understand" was released on Stooges Records in 1989 and did rather well on the college radio stations. "Latin Lover" was flipsided by a slow jam whose name escapes me in 1990 or so. The girls were regulars on my radio show back then on WCYC. Eventually, they left Stooges Records in a financial and personal dispute. They never got another deal.

The last I heard, Madeline (the taller, pretty one) was married and working in Real Estate and Sandy (the shorter, cute one) had moved out of state. In the years before she left Chicago, I saw Sandy as she began to pursue Christian music and performing for the Lord. She was very happy to have left Mario's Ballroom and the Alcatrazz behind.

Forever Freestyle, Harv Roman

ok I have a couple more songs to add..............
if Soriya is going to be considered being from Chicago then she's on the top of my list.
1 Soriya- I never loved you
2 Law- Missing your love
3 Dzyre- Games of love
Hubby would like to vote non freestyle too (not to make things more complicated LOL) anything by White Knight.
Oh and my daughter Corina has a request also "Give me back my heart" by Corina My girl LOVES freestyle. 😀

Chicago songs

To me these are the best freestyle songs out of Chicago:

First Class-my sweet rose
Isaac-in my heart
John Tapia-one and only
Hitmen-fallin in love
Exotic Love-tell me why
DeLaMor-latin lover

Vasilis

Maybe Harv can tell us what happened to Charlie Babie. It is like he disappeared. I put a post on the where are they now section about him. Does anyone know if Tim "spinnin'" Schommer posts on here, or if he has in the past?

Charlie got married and recently reconnected with Manny Mohr and Gilllette of "Short Short Man" fame and released a new dance single by Gillette on Jellybean's record label. Charlie also did some work for Chicago's Escape Records. The new Gillette single has been considered a success, and an album is supposed to be in the works. I believe that Charlie still lives in the Chicago suburbs with his wife (I don't know yet of any "Baby" Rosario's). Someone recently told me that they spotted him in New York (probably visiting John "Jellybean" Benitez).

That's what I know...Harv.

It seems that Freestyle is dying here in Chicago

I cant even get them to play it at 720, and they have 5 floors! I wish there was a club in Chicago or Aurora that played Freestyle all night long!!!!!

Final nominations for best Chicago cut...

Hey everyone!

I'm back from Houston, Texas and I'm checking this thread out so that I can put together the playlist for my May 4th Friday morning show. I'm using Wednesday, May 2nd as my personal deadline so that I can go through the vinyl and record on c.d., etc.

Do what you gotta do!

Harv Roman.

Hey Harv my votes are already in but don't forget to play one non-freestyle Chicago song SORRY your audience is growing and we are just getting a lil too demanding hahaha. But do stick to your Chicago theme. This is hubby's suggestion to play some hip house. Anything by White Knight or similar. Can't wait to see who you chose for your interview.

Yup! Chip Eberhart was a local house deejay who also worked at the Importes, ETC. record shop. A one-hit wonder, "If You Only Knew" was released on DJ International Records.

That would be a whole 'nother poll...best Chicago House, Hip-House cut...Marshall Jefferson, Ten-City, Fast Eddie, White Knight, Xaviera Gold, Liz Torres, Mr. Lee, Georgie Porgie, Sundance, Tyree, Pierre's Phantasy Club............................

Yo, I need to shut up, this is a Freestyle Forum here!

Harv Roman.

Hip House?

Somebody say Hip House? Uh oh don't get me started on Hip house. 😱 I love me some hip house. Yeah Harv shut up this is about freestyle. HAHAHAHAHA

I wasn't much into Hip-House in the early 90s...but due to the lack of good quality music nowadays, i've come to realize that Hip-House isn't that bad...I was wondering, is 2 Without Hats considered Hip-House?
