Yo, y2k1! We'll hopefully hook up soon! I spoke of your poll question this morning, and the listeners have spoken! I'll post my personal choices later, but this is what I collected from my Friday morning Phanatix...

Joel..."Prisoner Of Love"
Legacy..."Anything they did"
Nana..."Be My Baby"
De La Mor..."Latin Lover"
Unknown artist..."Take My Love"

I also forgave those who thought that Luis Damon and Miguel Reyes hail from Chicago. It's okay, Soraya wasn't from here either, but settled down long enough to lay down vocals for Mark Imperial in "I Never Loved You", which was also nominated by a listener...See? They're out there!

By the way, your question has inspired me to plan an all Chicago Freestyle show for Friday, May 4th. Check it out on WLUW (88.7 FM) in Chicago from 6am-9am. We also webcast...search for WLUW or e-mail me for details.

My personal list will come soon, until then...

I wasn't aware that I needed your forgiveness.

I never thought Miguel Reyes "hailed" from Chicago, only that his "Feels Like the First Time" song was supposed to have been released on (Throb Records) a Chicago label. That is why I voted for it in this thread.

Thanks for being so "forgiving"--my day would have been tragically incomplete without your undue kindness. *LMAO*

The vision of your lovliness forever did stay...

Damn....how could I have forgotten Isaac?

I know that Luis Damon is not from Chicago. But, I read that "Should've Never Let You Go" blew up in Chicago, according to the "Fierce Freestyle Flashbacks" mix CD.

Yo, Jason and Fernando...

You're absolutely right...Chicago did embrace Luis Damon and his classic Freestyle cut. In addition, at the 1990 Pan-American Festival, George Lamond publicly credited Chicago with making "Without You" a hit. Apparently, the other markets were slow to jump on it, but I remember Chris Barbosa sending me a copy of it on a white, unreleased label and I was blown away by the live sounding strings, etc. I was just trying to find some clarity as to what qualified as a "Chicago song".

As for Miguel Reyes, you got me and my listeners on the label technicality. It reminds me of New York claiming Frankie Knuckles and the "House" music movement-conveniently forgetting that he first spun at Chicago's Warehouse Club, hence the term "House Music".

The listeners were a bit nit-picky when I brought up this poll, and so I turned it into a "bit". Please forgive me, but occasionally, the Chicago dance music scene gets offended when not properly credited. What if Damon does earn the title of "Greatest Chicago Freestyle Song", and groups like LAW, First Class, Latin Soul, InEffect, and Dzyre get all depressed? We already have to deal with the six-time NBA champion Bulls!

I can't wait to program my Chicago Freestyle Special...

No Problem

Harv,

No problem here, as I was only making my point by using humor (and a little sarcasm).

yo rhoq my boy DJ BRYSKI got that lover's fantasy by em-s-ex it's a 12'in u can't find it no where he's got a lot of freestyle hard to beleve he's got almost ever freestyle on 12'in made over 1,200 singals hard to find stuff. he's got promos, test press, from all over he don't like the big songs to much old to new if he don't like it he don't want it well i wanner let u know bye

Hi Elear...

Yeah that "LOVER'S FANTASY" is a song that you have to allow time to grow on you. At first you aren't even sure if the song is Freestyle. Then once you realize that it is, you are trying to figure out if the song is supposed to be Freestyle, or if it just sounds like a Freestyle song. Once you get passed all of that you realize how incredibily innovative the song is in it's sound...

I belive Tim Schommer produced the song...I would have to look at my 12"...I always thought that the song was Hard-To-Find but here in Philly you can still find sealed copies (or least you could have a few years ago).
