I can recall back to 1991, when HOT 97 used to dedicate a couple of hours to DISCO. believe it or not, i never liked disco. but i did have some favorites and i did enjoy listening to AL BANDIRO (spelling is wrong) i used to wonder to mysleves "i wonder if the disco fans really enjoy listening to disco on a sunday night?" meaning that it was the only time slot where they got a chance to listen to thier music. i kind of felt bad. i never imagined that we had to wait for certain days to hear our songs.
here we had freestyle on heavy rotation and we never had to wait to hear freestyle. now, here we are, a decade later, and we dont hear our music all the time as much as we did in the past. we have to resort to lunch mixes and just like HOT 97 had the disco, a Sunday show.
DISCO has a new home, with AL BANDIRO once again. DISCO is in heavy rotation on this station. perhaps, in 10 years, we can have an "all day freestyle station" once again.

yo kenny i use to think the same thing when power use to play disco on their lunch mix everyday and freestyle was on heavy, heavy rotation. that was back in da day..... now the only time u hear freestyle is on their lunch mixes...kind of makes u feel old doesnt it??

Kenny...good point.

But do you seriously think a "all day freestyle station' would work !? lol. Hot 97/103 was never a 'all freestyle station' to begin with. Sure they played about 60%-70% freestyle in its peak, but they still played Madonna, ABC, Dead or Alive, etc.

Where does Disco have a new home ?!? If you're referring to Jammin 105.1, they don't play JUST disco. No station will succeed sticking to just ONE format.

Do you want this radio station to play all the old freestyle stuff all day (Come into my arms, Spring love, Dreamboy Dreamgirl, etc) ? If not, what new freestyle songs do you think would succeed on radio today ?

i dont listen to Jammin that often, but when i switch over, they do play quite a bit of disco. more than it had been played in the past 20 years. Hearing all freestyle 24/7 can get ya kid of sick, come to think about it. but Hot 97/103 had a great mixture. from RICKY ASTLEY to Stacey q (and yes....NEW KIDS). They played alot of great classics. at one point, it did seem that FREESTYLE was the only thing they played!

alot of stations succeed by sticking to one format, however. look at HOT 97 (HIP HOP & R&B)now. look at CBS FM (OLDIES). they stick to one style and it works well. what about LA MEGA (SALSA)?

in my opinion, a song will do well when you hear it often. not like 24 times in a day, but lets say in a smaller rotation, enough to help you give it nudge in your brain where it may have a catchy tune that will make it stick in your head. even though it may not get club play, it may eventually. Cynthia had great success. who knows.....one song that you think is terrible maybe a great tune in someone else head! 🙂

20 years? Jammin has only been around for 2 years.

KTU has that same mixture that Hot 97/103 did back in the day. Its basically the same format. Just there isn't NEW freestyle for KTU to play. We complain about Ricky/Britney/Christina on KTU today like we complained about New Kids/Madonna/Debbie Gibson on Hot 103 15 yrs ago.

CBS doesn't stick to one format. Sure its all oldies, but its 30 years of music they play. From 50's to 80's. Its not 1 single format of music. Lamega plays Salsa, Merrengue, and one other catergory of Spanish music i can't recall the name of right now.

Back to your original post, you said 'we don't hear hear our music as we did in the past (10 yrs ago) and that you WANT MORE FREESTLE". I'm kinda confused as to what you want radio to do concerning freestyle? ? Do you want them playing the old stuff more (confirming freestyle is a classic sound and a thing of the past) or do you want them playing more newer freestyle. If so, what freestyle songs would you like radio to play ?

Disco inferno

I LOVE disco, but I don't remember Hot 97 playing disco back then. I think by then I didn't feel like listening to disco. It was only a few years ago that I started listening to it and loving it again. I was only a little girl when it came out but I remember my parents listening to it & I remember all the songs. In the early 80's I would go rollerskating (not blades but skates) at the Roller World in Hollywood, Florida LOL oh the good old days. My all time favorite is "You make me feel/mighty real"

more than it had been played in the past 20 years. [/B]

i meant in general. Jammin plays more disco than i have heard over the past 20 years, since the "DEATH OF DISCO".

I dont ever remember a station playing as much disco as Jammin since the ORIGNAL KTU.

Callate

Well I guess the peeps that were in their teens back then are older and requesting it now? I have no idea! Leave me alone! Stop harassing me! *steals Kenny's chihuahua*

DISCO

i love disco! i remember my parents and aunt were huge fans of it when i was a little boy so i grew up around it. my favorite was donna summer, all her songs were da jam! i also love the s.o.s. band's "take your time(do it right)", "there but for the grace of god go i" by machine, "knock on wood" by i forget....disco had a lot of jamz but those are the ones that stick out.......

Put all the shows on KTU to the side....(your mixes).
I would love to hear a bit more freestyle in thier selections. some rare ones that were once popular would be nice also. they do play some really good ones. we shouldnt have to resort to "special shows" to hear freestyle. no offense to you at all, Johnny. But i guess if they put much more freestyle in their regular airplay, then we wouldnt have anything to look forward to during the lunch mixes and on Sunday nights.
I remember cruisin in my ride on friday and sturday nights when their was plenty of freestyle and other great dance songs to cruise to. what happen to those days? 🙁

I know it wont be 1989......ever again. but we can dream!

I havent heard from REGGIE In ages. i speak to her cousin, Debbie all the time. we should call up GEICO and bother his ass!!

and for the record, i wasnt trying to diss anyone or any of the stations by my post. i just wanted to simply state that i never thought we would have to feel like the DISCO fans did with thier special sunday shows.....sitting on the porch, with memories or yester-year!

Gwedo, Me or Tommy Nappi mix 2 hours of non stop freestyle on Saturday nights on KTU. How much do u want ! lol

And KTU mixes "Other great dance songs" music NON STOP for 4 hours on friday nights and 10 hours on Saturday nights. TEN hours non stop !! KTU mixes MORE than the old Hot 103 did. The only reason you like Hot 103 better is because it was in 1988..the era of the gwedo ! lol

Kenny

Actually Kenny I told him I would stay with you and Diane when I go to Long Island next month.
