I don’t know how this will come to past when we basically have scared away most of the artist that used to post up here. Is there any one that exemplifies what you are saying?

So my question to this is who are the top 10 oldschool freestyle artist that still puts on a good show and deserve to get pay top dollar? And the same goes for the newer performers who are they. I understand that the market isnt what it used to be so what do you all think they should get pay?

I've been watching all of the YOU TUBE footage for the recent shows.
What the hell are you guys doing? Get that footage off of there.
TERRIBLE!
And they have the audacity to put it on their MYSPACE page.
Thanks for guaranteeing that you'll never get booked.

The biggest waste of money is having the alleged King of Freestyle perform Karaoke and walk around with his Elvis gut, trying to get the audience to sing all of the hard parts to their song; Lazy!

HAHA. Yea the so call King is having Club TABU in Orlando charge 10 dollars when it has always been a free concert series sponsored by Don Q rums. As far as the youtube videos of recent performances,it's like watching kareoke. No dancers,no routine and even less enthusiasm from the artists. 😕

Bottom line, they can still make a nice living, they just have to do the work now.

This sentence above the most powerful statement of this entire thread.

As I said I have saying this for well over 20 years to artists, industry people..etc...but nobody seemed to listen nobody seemed to care. Well now it is a wake up call folks because these people have NO SKILLS outside of what they do more or less and need that "chedda" to survive.

You need to actually work at your craft..those days of instant stardom are LONG GONE and as you can see how people are..ok, so you had a hit 20 years ago..and...? What have you done lately? NOTHING !!! So if you expect to draw a crowd based on 20 year old music...remember you indeed need a wake up call.

Only certain artists have realized this and come out with some new material and just need the PR to get the word out again like when it all started...will that happen time will tell.

But what gets me going is that all these shows that constantly have the same artists performing these two decade old tracks...

Wake up call=====> 2009 is here folks, if you have any real talent and want to make a living..TIME TO WORK AT IT otherwise just fade away like most will.

"Off the top of my head" and my experiences relating to the Philadelphia, PA / South Jersey area... This list will obviously be different for different people and areas.

2) TKA / K7
3) Collage
4) Lil Suzy
5) Lisa Lisa

New School (newer/older). These are MY list of who does a bang up job each time I've booked them and are worth the price.
1) Pain
2) Sammy Zone
3) Willie Valentin
4) Nu Image / Tony G
5) Topaz

And don't get me started on the UNISPIRED Artist of today who stands on stage, pumps their fists up in the air (like they just don't care; say hooooooooe!) and expect their audience to go crazy because they drove 6 hours to get to the venue.

ROFLMAO !!!

I love it..but so so true.

What about Coro or George Lamond or Judy Torres?

I think he means, these are the artists he has booked, in his experience.

I thought the same thing - I had to read it twice. Cause you know there are some other artists, such as my girl SAFIRE who give 100%.

There are many solid performers in Freestyle.
Most of them belong to the Old School.

Judy Torres doesn't need anyone with her on stage.
She is the perfect one woman show.
We have booked her in this area countless times and she has always given the fans their money's worth.

George Lamond is another Artist that requires no one with him on stage.
Just give him a live mic and let him go.

TKA/K7 wrote the blueprint of what giving the fans a great show is supposed to be like.

Lisette Melendez is solid. And from the looks of it, the only one not scared to perform her new songs for the public. "Don't Ever Say" was performed live and the fans loved it.

Coro and Sa-Fire are the best single performers when it comes to individual Artitsts putting on a great show together.

Now. When you look at the other side of the spectrum. There are some terrible old school performers out there. No list is required; they know who they are. The ones who loose their voice 10 seconds into their performances.

Mixedgal, the artist, if they want to continue have to take that shot. MOST people want to hear some new songs by their favorite artists. Granted not thirty minutes of new stuff. Like I said previously, they have to program their show tape not to bore the artists either.

Also, if the old school artist just wants to do their old songs, that is fine too, but make sure they hit them all when they are up there. If they were smart they would get those old cds and sell them, or do a licensing deal and repress, or have a young hungry producer cut the tracks as similars. Merchandise is a MISSED chance at a lot of extra cash flow.

You're right, I just think that more and more artists need to learn how to take more risks instead of staying in the "safe zone". Staying stagnant and comfortable in one place is not good. No chance for growth or what the future could bring. The same routine over and over again can get boring after a while, time for something NEW, and I'm not talking new remixes of old tunes either (like how I seen some artists do already).

Yes, I am talking from only my experiences... I have more, but that is my top 5 for each.

Yo...who was singing in the video, I couldn't even hear the girl sing the damn song...that's really messed up.

You can't put a show together just for the "love".
"Love" doesn't pay the bills.

If you are a Promoter and you are putting a show together you have to put the money aside to cover all of the show's expences.

There are a huge number of promoters who are counting on the fans to sell out their venue and get upset when they don't show. Then they try to sneak through the back door when they don't have the rest of the money to pay the act.

Furthermore, they scam the fans with false giveaways to the show via "guest lists" and try to make them pay as soon as they get there.

Not to add that they exploit the websites and iradio stations with links and propoganda to free ticket giveaways that they never distribute.

The system is broken.

These shows look like they were done in someones basement.

As far as the promoter sneaking out with the loot..ask Kenny Guido about that he is an expert at getting fucked over like that.

Sorry Kenny..but I still luv ya' but I'm trying to protect your ass here from getting any bigger with the dicks that are thrown at you. Wake up bro'....
