the above video is one reason why this genre of music will never come back, it lacks everything!

lol basement that is great. Actually that is the RT 1 Cafe. We actually had some really nice intels there, but up until about 2-3 weeks ago, the deal with the lighting company and club went away. We are workign on getting stage lighting. We actually have 2 spots, but since I didn't run the live event, the other DJ just forgot to turn them on. Yes, I agree it does look lke shit. I was in the back --outside in the cold for 3 hours doing interviews. It was my fault it didn't look better. I will try to make the needed changes.

These shows look like they were done in someones basement.

As far as the promoter sneaking out with the loot..ask Kenny Guido about that he is an expert at getting fucked over like that.

Sorry Kenny..but I still luv ya' but I'm trying to protect your ass here from getting any bigger with the dicks that are thrown at you. Wake up bro'....

2 things... One I have never seen the movie Jerry mcGuire (I know, I know), and that's all I heard about from people saying how the post reminded them of that movie. I will rent it this week. lol

and 2 obviously the guy filming Rebekka or someone close to him is a HUGE fan as he seems to know the song pretty well lol

I am not pointing this comment at anyone specific...however:

...holding a freestyle event a a joint called Rt 1 Cafe tells me a few things. Since this is at a place I have never been to, nor would go to just because of the name alone...but:

...the name sounds like a truck stop for good ol' boys to pick up grits and $2 hookers

...from watching the video the place looks like a complete disaster

...I am not picking on any artist here and I actually like Rebecca and the overhaul that Carlos Barrios did to the track...however sweetheart you need to prepare for performing at a live event, what I watched on the video does not show me that one bit. Some people cannot perform live properly and have "fill ins" to lip sync their tracks...the biggest one that comes to mind was the group LIME from the early 80's.

....Not being to preform a proper show is ok, then you should just be a studio artist or group like in the famous studio group Enigma. They never perform live, only release their cds...but they are huge.

Now people....it seems to me and I am sure many others that know, this music format has actually went from being the pinnacle of the dance/community to being..well a kinda disgrace over the good years of the late 80's and and into obscurity like the big hair bands of the late 80's did also.

More and more people come into the industry who do not understand what doing work means, what business means or even what talent means. Things are run as if you are marooned on Gilligan's Island performing on a stage made of bamboo with the Professor providing lighting by riding his island made bicycle while Maryann is back at the hut making coconut creme pies for an after show treat...WTF.

People that are in the industry and involved in providing these fiascos better take note here because you are killing the genre of music and actually fucking yourself by providing these extreme minor league results.

I would rather see these tracks performed by people picked up in the audience and have them lip sync them.that would be more entertaining..I would pay for a ticket to see that .

People the cat is already out of the bag on this.

You people that are involved in producing this mess are responsible for the downfall of freestyle because you honestly don't give a f**k or you would be asking for help but you are not...

..so why should the public give a f**k and support you..right???

Remember bad business goes out of business...and to ALL of you people who put this crap out for us consumers to digest listen up because we are tired of it and will start to vomit it back right all over you....

..then what?

People step up your game or just GTFO because I am tired of reading posts about this topic and tired of listening to music that has absolutely no business being played at all.

The true sad part here is that you people are embarrassing yourself by providing this crap and those in the know, like myself, just keep shaking our heads in disgust because you are not intelligent enough to reach out for proper help to get your game elevated.

Enough said...peace out !

Amen, well said.

And that's the issue!!

No not Willie Valentin performing!

The guy taping the event!
The one singing along with the Artist. The one you clearly hear on the tape;
He's the issue! (Well. Not him specifically)

Let me explain.

Someone will tell this poor chum (or someone like him) that he sounds good and should do a song (and he'll believe it!)
He will go home, write a (crappy) song and try to get it produced.

(THIS IS WHERE THEIR JOURNEY TO BECOME A SINGER SHOULD END!!!)

Someone will take his money and produce a song for him.
And just because the person got a song produced, he is now a Freestyle singer.
(NO PRESS KIT REQUIRED!)

EASY RIGHT!?

It doesn't stop there!

Then you'll have a group of "frands" (fan/friend) saying that this is the best song ever recorded!! The will get together on the boards (because its the easiest way) and start the propaganda!

Then, because there's no new Freestyle being released (as its the excuse I always get!)
it starts being supported!

They put this Artist on a pedestal where one is not allowed to say anything negative about them because that would be labled HATING!

iradio stations will now add this song to their rotation because the members of their sites require it. (Mostly they nag and complain!)

Ultimately, because of the constant propaganda and fake buzz, someone will book this so called Artist.

What you'll get is the mess they called Freestyle.

The one with the Artist standing on stage, confused and out of place thinking on how the frack they got to this point in the first place.

wow - that's quite a recipe for disaster. But I totally agree with you.

Well Tony, all venues can't be the biggest and best club. The lighting blew for this event, BUT if the intels and the lighting guy was there, it makes a WORLD of difference.

As for the name --who cares. I've heard and been to worse, especially in great NEW YORK!

I guess the best way to describe freestyle and the so-called movement is an underground type scene --just like original rock, and punk... and trust me their venues are MUCH worse lol

I do GET exactly what you are saying though.

Wow, you guys are cracking me up.
First I gotta tell you, I've been to many of Mr. Miami's recent events and loved everyone of them. Just ask anyone who attends these events if they did to and I doubt that even 1 person would say that they didnt.

The person who is taping those videos happens to be a friend of mine and goes by the name Wizkid on Freestyle.fm. He knows he cant sing and puts the videos up for those who know him cause everyone gets a kick out of them. In his defense, it is hard not to sing along to these shows while recording. I have been to alot of them with him and we both tape them while we're there. You can check my videos out here. I would click on "watch in high quality" or "watch in HD", you get a better video.

The Route 1 cafe may not be the best name or be the best place to throw a show, but I gotta tell ya, its not bad either. Yes the lighting has really sucked the past few shows and hopefully Steve (or whoever) will get that fixed really soon.

Here's the thing. Nobody else around here is doing anything like this. We have to go to Newyork to see a show and well, most of us just cant do that. So I for one am grateful that someone is doing something in this city, and thankfully it's only 10 minutes from my house. There's a bunch of us that try to make each one of these shows cause they are always a good time, plus we want to support the freestyle so that there are more shows. Tony, for you to say that you wouldn't attend an event because of the name of the place shocks me, I wouldnt expect that from you, but to each their own.

"Off the top of my head" and my experiences relating to the Philadelphia, PA / South Jersey area... This list will obviously be different for different people and areas.
1) Stevie B
2) TKA / K7
3) Collage
4) Lil Suzy
5) Lisa Lisa
New School (newer/older). These are MY list of who does a bang up job each time I've booked them and are worth the price.
1) Pain
2) Sammy Zone
3) Willie Valentin
4) Nu Image / Tony G
5) Topaz

This list in my opinion is so so. Although I have no desire to ever see Stevie B live again, it seems that the crowd really loves him and gets into it, but still wouldnt call him the best.

Tka/k7, yes a great show
Haven't seen Collage or Lil Suzy or Lisa Lisa.

I'd def have to add George Lamond and Judy Torres, the best two In my opinion. I have to add Soave and for the little bit I seen Joe Zangie with Rockell in trenton, Joe Zangie.

I do agree with Pain, Willie Valentin and Sammy Zone, they all put on amazing shows.

Now Topaz, I like a few of his songs, but when I seen him, he didnt exactly blow me away with his stage presence.

wizkid used to be a member here.🙂

Wizkid! OMFG!!!
LOLROTF!!!
I used WizKid as an example of how people make the transition from fan to "WANNA BE" Artist.
They get suped up by their relatives and friends who tell them they can sing and this is a big part of the reason why anyone thinks they can get into it.
(WHO AM I KIDDING! ANYONE CAN!)
WIZKID!? REALLY! LOL
STILL ROTF!
I don't knock what Mr Miami is doing. I love when doors open for our Artists.
But its time to start cutting back the list and limiting who can perform on shows when they are truly not prepared.
You want to know who's prepared?
ASK ME!
LOL! WIZKID! REALLY!?

Yeah it's Wizkid lol. He's got a bunch of videos up himself if you want to hear some of his other work lol. I cant wait to tell Wiz about this thread.

Didnt know he was a member here too. Cool.

Homer the name is irrelevant..the show is the issue here. If I am paying to be entertained let the entertainment happen.

You know that I would hang with you guys anytime and drink up a storm and have a great time. I am not pre-judging American Idol contestants...these are supposed to be bonafide freestyle artists ..if they have no stage presence get off the stage then.

I am tired about the ever present amount of sub-standardization going. If you can't do the job right..then GTFO.

Is this why you are mad at Industry Peeps?

The only thing Krusty about Mr Miami's show, is MR. MIAMI! Yo, how long you been doing this dawg? I heard you still trying to promote 200 capacity clubs... and can't pack them! Lol... I have 21 year old promoters packing 2000 plus venues around the country. If you like, I'll put you in touch with a few, they'll give you some tips on how to do this. Also, a little marketing tip here... How you gonna try and represent Philly with a name like Mr. Miami? Shouldn't you change it to Mr. Philly? We can call you Phil for short. It's Friday night, you probably won't see this till tomorrow bacause you have to go hand out flyers!
