Even if they were capable of doing so , they would not succeed with their current reception issues .... Almost all of New Jersey gets KTU. Pulse can only make it to a few towns close to the NY border.

when you are capable of getting reception from radio stations in japan just by clicking the web link for livestream i dont think the singal strentgh/reception/coverage area is really the main issue, I would say more people listen to radio at work or home then in the car

there are alot of listeners who call in to my brothers freestyle show on party 105 for instance from connetticut and jersey from areas where there is no radio reception but they listen online

i would'nt even know my radio in my car only goes to 87.9 and i have only listened online twice.

Now you will see Tony Santiango come to the defense lol

Actually, it's Santiago.

And I'll only say it like this...you either like it or don't like it. And for those that don't....it's only because (and I can totally sympathize) you want more currents....regardless of whatever dance music genre. I gave hype in the beginning and people remember that..LOL.

Right now, the coalition is changing focus to work more with artists and at the very LEAST, try to start up a new scene....regardless of whatever genre, new stuff has got to get out there! If not to terrestrial or satellite radio...then to the internet streamers out there.

Somebody here mentioned his brother has a show at Party 105. Party 105's signal can be heard on 101.5 in Nassau County. This is the first time I have ever gotten 3 stations (let alone more than 1) that have dance formats.

I only listen to the radio in the car when my Mp3s run out on my Mp3 player. I think the real competition, at least in Nassau County, is between Pulse and Party 105/101.5, if you are a fan of current dance and house music. KTU is pretty much out of the picture.

It is really hard to say which is better between Pulse and Party 105, but I have always preferred Party 105 since I live in Suffolk County.

Once internet radio becomes standard for your car (i.e. there are smartphones that already do this), there will be no need to even care about these terrestrial radio stations

i can see why you guys say this station sucks. I personally think they play a bit excessive amount of cheesy remixes, played out dance and oldskool queso. I see why they do this tho. The predominant fanbase consists of mainstream club goers who do not seek the deep house / trance that we do. Face facts, most people thrive off of Top 40. I am glad to see certain mixshows popping up although they could be better. I am also glad to see a station begin to try and change things bringing better dance music back to terristrial radio. You gotta take it for what it is. If you really seek the dope mixes and beats, you have to put in work.

That is very TRUE!

The reality is, corporations wanted to get as much presence in a given market as possible, which is why they fought tooth and nail to have the radio industry deregulated (as it was in 1996). Therefore, they thought overpaying and buying up as many prime stations as they could in a given market would help benefit them (Clear Channel owns 'KTU, Z-100, Power 105.1, Q-104 and Lite FM with CBS owning K-Rock, Fresh 102.7, CBS-FM....Emmis owning Kiss-FM, Hot 97 and 'RXP). Instead, they wound up making these "cookie cutter" formats with no "soul" in them only figuring that the ones with the money were ladies 25-54 and forget everyone else. And now...that same mentality is finally biting them in the a$$!

You would be HARD pressed to find someone under the age of 25 that would say that radio is their main source of music. Corporations dumped off the youth and now that crowd is either listening via the Internet (streams, MySpace profiles) and taking what they hear and downloading them onto their iPods. Corporations also think that those over 40 would rather prefer listening to music from 20 years ago versus now. This is why I had picked on classic freestyle before.....I liked it THEN, but I would want to hear music of TODAY. If there is freestyle (or any music) out there today..then bring it! And perhaps it's because I am a core fan that I'm trying to think ahead but gets frustrating when the media in general doesn't. And this can be said for ANY station.

It's no surprise that with 3GP/Wi-Fi technology making strides, that you would be able to listen to Internet streams in your car soon, and yeah...I'd tune in! On one of my cellphones, I could tune in to XM now! Those are the "stations" of the future...the same way, in effect, how cable has dominated with edgier programming over network television.

I'm sure most of you are probably listening to stations such as "Freestyle FM" or other offerings via Live365 or Shoutcast. I was even flirting the idea about putting an online station on, to present mainly new, edgier sounds...which would include NEW freestyle only along with the deep house, drum and bass, and whatever edgy sounds come down the pike.

Pulse 87 is here, and whether one tunes in or not, at least you have something out there that plays an increased percentage of current music than what we've last had ('KTU). Though, if Pulse 87 changed format tomorrow, this time around I would just walk away from terrestrial radio. Honestly, I think the damage has been done regarding terrestrial radio in general. Even if someone did something innovative and happening, a potential crowd has been lost for good...pushed away to the new and emerging technologies. And as far as the coalition goes, even we have to "change" with the times and recognize the future....which is why we want to get a gathering of new artists to forge a new scene along the way, as well as established artists to generate more material to enhance the new scene.

In 5 years time, unless these corporations keep trying to squeeze out these Internet streamers by raising royalty fees out of reach, we'll talk about stations like Freestyle FM, Original Hot 97, Party 96.7, B-91, Coalition Radio (should I go through with this) the same we we had talked about Hot 103, Hot 97 and 'KTU in the past since everyone will be locked into those stations.

FYI- KTU is going under watch and see my friends

Corporate radio is too STUBBORN to make any changes. They took a tiny hit in the last ratings book but not enough to make something dramatic happen.

And if it did, they would probably change format to country or something else. Be sure current, cutting edge dance will never be part of the equation there.

You can get the internet for your car now..in fact I had internet in one of my cars about late 2000. It was expensive to setup, had a actual laptop as part of my audio system with a mobile broadband signal.

It was kool because I had a touch tone Windows based monitor 7" wide in my dash that ran the audio system and the internet as well by running IE as a browser for the net.

So I kinda know that once the broadband connections are made cheap for audio car installations, terrestrial radio is going to lose listenership for sure.

But until that happens let's put together a new dance station and call it:

WGUIDO FM

Ronnie D will be the PD because he can "bust a' move" at a moments notice to make sure only the dope tracks are played, Keddy G and Tony S can share MD duties. I will do most of the mixes as well as put together a mix team as well to provide more mix content..that's a start but a succe$$ful one at that.😀

This is somewhat true but don't say I didn't warn you -- and they will NEVER play all types of dance Wayyy to many issues at that station attitude and otherwise

Before I begin, let's get one thing straight---I DO NOT work for Pulse 87.
This is strictly MY OPINION of the situation!

From what I've been listening to so far, Pulse 87 isn't all that bad. While the station certainly has its share of problems, and isn't "perfect"---at least they're trying! I've noticed that the need for advertising revenue has seemingly influenced the decision to play more "Top 40" and "cheesy dance remixes", but what do you expect a station in Pulse 87's position to do right now given its current position?

I wish there would be a station that played dance music 24/7---but history has shown that a PURE 100% dance music format (no matter how well supported) won't survive. Look at what happened to the original Party 93.1 in Miami!

It seems as if playing some of the music Pulse 87 currently plays might be a "necessary evil". To all you so-called "hardcore fans" (like dfkwcwp, who I'm surprised is SO anti-Pulse as if it's a personal thing), what would you rather have...a flawed PULSE 87 or NOTHING AT ALL??

Pulse 87 is the only one attempting to "breathe life back" into the carcass called New York Radio these days. If you think you can do a better job, why not ORGANIZE and create a BETTER station yourselves??
