The time is getting close again for the soccer fans to get excited again. The biggest sporting event on the planet is coming next year.

A few weeks ago the final 32 teams qualified for the trip to Germany. The lottery to see which teams will be in which group will happen this coming Friday, December 9, in Germany. There will be eight groups of four teams each. I'm interested to see this. Peter, I'm sure you won't have to travel far to watch a game.

The coutries that qualified are as follows:

AFRICA
Angola
Ghana
Ivory Coast
Togo
Tunisia

ASIA
Iran
Japan
Saudi Arabia
South Korea

CONCACAF (North America, Central America, and the Caribean)
Costa Rica
Mexico
Trinidad & Tobago
USA

EUROPE
Croatia
Czech Republic
England
France
Germany
Italy
The Netherlands (Holland)
Poland
Portugal
Serbia & Montenegro
Spain
Sweden
Switzerland
Ukraine

OCEANIA
Australia

SOUTH AMERICA
Argentina
Brazil
Ecuador
Paraguay

I can't wait! I love the Olympics! :cheers

I'm Greek.

After Greece won Euro 2004, I (who follow soccer on a regular basis) tried to explain to anyone who would listen that it was a fluke and would never happen again. On the other hand, all my Greek friends who only watch soccer once every 4 years, decided that Greece was all of a sudden a World Cup contender.

Guess what? They didn't even qualify! :blah

Brazil and Argentina are looking like the favourites to win. Germany are playing at home, so they will be dangerous as well.

My pick: Brazil

We watch soccor at my house also.... of course I'm gonna hope ECUADOR wins (LOL..like that would happen!)

My house is divided between Brazil or Mexico to take it!!!

I CAN'T WAIT...ALREADY ORDERED MY JERSEY

VIVA PORTUGAL!!!

Brazil isn't the powerhouse they used to be...Germany being the host country is a favorite...I agree on the Argentina pick...Portugal is rising in the ranks too and Spain is also a contender...will be interesting to watch

LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO @ Ant 😛

i'm from germany and i can tell you about the german team that they don't have such a good team as they had in the old days. there are really other countries and even small countries which really play better than the big ones (Germany, France, England, Italy, Spain) for example Greece or Croatia. Don't expect that Germany is one of the fav teams.

But what I always ask myself is why the USA don't have the big catch to soccer. I know the US for one of the biggest sport countries, in every kind of sport, they're brilliantic, but in soccer they suck.... Why???
in every other continent soccer is the nr. 1 sport but not in the USA?

Can somebody tell me why? I really would like to know.

I'm not putting too much weight on Spain or Portugal. Those teams also are wishful thinking. I'll give some weight to Argentina.

Well last World Cup South Korea and Senegal made it really far considering...and of course Greece winning the last Euro....so you can never really count anyone out....either way I'm Portuguese so I wanna see my country win 😀

South American and European teams are always the strong hold in soccer...hmmmm has a country from another continente ever won the world cup?
