i really didnt read a lot of the replies...BUT this is why i feel freestyle is not thriving...First the only type of music that will be popular is the stuff that the big record companies want u to hear!!! thats it...freestyle has to have a big push with lots of money behind it to get ahead...people will eventually like what ever u push in thier ears...i mean thats where the whole thing about paying radio stations to play ur song comes from...i dont know if it is true or not but hey it sounds logical...how come a song that sounds like pure crap and that is really stupid gets played a million times...i think its because of the company payin!!! then people start learning the words and it becomes thier favorite song...then they start requesting it and its a hit...even though its crap...i know if freestyle was broadcasted nationally people would love it...look at the devotion we have, u usually dont see that to much...we are still true even though freestyle has been gone to the public for a long time...so this is why i feel freestyle is not popular...maybe if one of us strike it good in the stock market we can flood the airwaves, and radio waves with OUR music!!!!!!

what we're at this again????????

Okay here we go in no particular order:
In reference to the comments about racism.... latinos are racist themselves just look at this board sometimes.....we have kept ourselves held back, not because of the white man, but because of the racism that exists between latinos....And I have listened to hip hop since 1979, I followed it all, I have always dressed hip hop, but I've listened to freestyle since the 80's, Latinos have influenced both gernes since the beginning, but the racism also was based on the latino community, in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and Califas, who thought that if a mexican listened to rap they were sell outs. It was either mexican music or freestyle until Frost and Cypress Hill started doing there thing. Then slowly it changed but its obvious by the messages that the "its okay to listen to rap, but they still n*****'s attitude is still around. Music only know the boundries that are set upon it.
In reference to why freestyle isn't thriving its because there is a perception of what freestyle should sound like
and there no acceptance of any new styles. ONCE AGAIN- Music must evolve or die out, it is natural progression. Hip Hop is the culture.. Rap is the artistic expression for the culture. Freestyle is the artistic expression of what culture?????? That was asked about a month ago...."Who listens to freestyle Preps or Ghetto people?"..WTF was that about and who the hell cares. Rap has survived because of the forms it has evolved into from the "gangsta" style to the "intellectual" style, the "hardcore" style, and now they are using latin rythms, like eve's "who's that girl", Wyclef and his "Carnival" cd and now with his "Perfect Gentleman" track. And Jay Z and his "Fiesta"....
You guys trash the new style that freestyle has evolved into...okay so if somebody doesn't use the planet rock beat its not freestyle, so what if somebody uses a house beat, or a salsa beat, its evolution, bottom line. The 80's are not coming back until 2080 so let the past be the past....
The "why you leave me", "come back to me", "my heart is broken", lyrics have gotten old....But since it was successful and its what freestyle is based on, it will always be the foundation for freestyle....
But if you don't build on the foundation, if you only rely on the foundation then all you have is the foundation and eventually that will be covered by the sands of time.
And as far as 2$ producers, if you haven't made any tracks, who the hell are you to diss.....Randy, Willie, Latif, and all the others out there keep doing it your way and like I have said before "Leaders never chose their followers, the followers chose the leader"...
The only person that will ever hold me back is the one staring back at me from the mirror....

I think Freestyle was popular because you had god Christians and good people in power of the music buiness,You also had Latinos in power to put Freestyle on the air however old schoool postive Freestyle and old school postive rap is gone from radio this is Satan's world and the rap today is different before.Today the kind o rap that is popular is negative, with explicit lyrics and vulgrarity however Freestyle and positive rap/Hiphop is comming back with the Latin explosion and the explosion of Christian music scene.Today Latin music and Christian usic are the two fastest growing music genres for the past 5 years!Sooner or later alot of postive dance music with Christians and Latinos are slowy taking over the radio and appearing on MTV,VH1,THE BOX,BET,MTV LATINO and mainstream pop radio aswell as Latin radio stations who are the number one rated radio stations in most major American cities.Christian music has produced some of the best Dance music in recent times and Christian stations have been number one or top 5 in alot of major American cities!Freestyle will be back on top just in a different way then before because this time Freestyle will be big in the Latin and Christian music markets,it's already started happen!Racism exist and anti satanist music has attacked Freestyle,Postive HipHop and Latin pop however in the last couple of years Latin pop and freestyle has been getting alot of attention and starting to sell better than ever.As soon as major record lables start promoting Freestyle again or distributing it more and more this will give Freestyle lots of exposure and it will be back on pop radio and MTV.God bless you all!!! With Christian Love Always,Omar 🙂

R.kelly sang "FIESTA", JayZ did "HAY PAPI". What i do is LISTEN to what i chose to listen and BOUNCE to it in my ride. I need some variety of music when i hang out.
Like i always say: LISTEN TO WHAT U ALL FEEL, AND LISTEN TO IT LOUD! but freestyle will always be my passion....
peaceouttie....

Let me put it like this: the music business is a very fickled business. And people who listen to music are also fickled and have a very short attention span. As for me,I liked freestyle because it brings back good memories of me and my friends just chillin' in our hood and my final days in being in NYC. That's the main reason why I miss it so much; it reminds me of home. Plus freestyle talk about love, heartbreak, and just gettin' your mack or party on. It's a shame that freestyle isn't that much out in the open like it use to.
