Jason, easy enough, but they don't do it. I'm a non-voting member of NARAS myself.

Berp, you can get it at www.dmadance.com or any Tower Records.

Your comment totally stumps me, lilshygrrl. Do you honestly have no idea how popular country music is? Outside of the major cosmopolitan urban areas in the U.S., LOTS of people listen to country music. It is basically the music of america. Rednecks from Maine to California listen to it, its a HUGE industry. That is why they have their own radio stations and award shows.

And for BERP I believe the URL is DMADANCE.COM. You can get DMA magazine at any newsstand, I usually see it at Tower Books.

well, in new york, its not big at all. everytime they come up with a new country radio station, it always ends up going off the air after 6 months!

I remember when 97.1 made the switch to 103.5 (the old country station)..

Ahhhhh - Here's some trivia..

What was the first song they played when the switch was made??
Which DJ/DJ's announced the song??
What year was it??

Ummm, New York is a major cosmopolitan urban area!!!

How about Shania?? Faith Evans??? (granted they are cross-over and good looking women)

needless to say, jason is right.

as much as we like freestyle we have to be realistic, people! i have no idea why this question comes up over and over again on freestyle BBs. how come freestyle has no category at the grammys? come on. if there was a category, which songs would even be nominated? i'm not going to touch upon the obvious...no videos, not many new songs out, not a large freestyle fan base. let's say there was a freestyle category, which songs are possibly good enough to be nominated? you can't nominate some phat TKA song from 1987 for the 2002 grammys. so then, which current songs are good enough? out of the few new freestyle songs out, what is there like...one decent song?

i live on the east coast where i would say most of the freestyle fans are at. in the grand scheme of things we are NOT a large group of people. any time there's a strictly new school event, the club will pretty much be dead. no one cares about new school freestyle or new artists. if coro, tka, etc. are at a club, it will probably be a decent turn out...but even then the club's not bumpin. the only time i have ever seen a full house for a freestyle event was the first freestyle reunion @exit where tons of old school artists performed. other than that, the public doesn't care about freestyle these days. whenever there's a new school artist/artists performing at a club, the place is dead or full of internet people. i've witnessed this. i also witness the 15-20 people who attended posting the next day how "packed" it was how "great" the show was and how everyone who wasn't there missed out.

it would be nice if there could be a freestyle "awards" event for all the existing fans who are still interested. but the last freestyle awards event i recall was shut down before it even got started due to a fight that broke out. that's just sad. as a wise man once said to me when referring to freestyle artists, "the only grammys they're getting is golden grammys."

first song hot97 played was Pump up the volume- marrs
it was in i think september of 1988
broadway bill lee or greg thunder i think were the dj's who announced it

I remember the song being "Only In My Dreams," by Debbie Gibson???

I have spoke about this before in a thread of mine and I strongly think there should be a "Dance Music" catagory which would then cover freestyle music and other dance "New school" music it is time for OUR Music to be recognized!!! We need to somehow petition this and this is the perfect websight to do this!!! I'm willing to do this!! Let's go my peep's!! :hearton

YOOOOOO IM DOWN FOR THIS!! LETS GIVE IT A TRY!! ITS WORTH IT... LIKE NAS SAY'S (DA TIME IS NOW)ALL I NEED IS 1 MIC LOL

Here's why:

If you ask 1000 people (on average) what your faviourate kind of music is, you are lucky if you get 3 people say Freestyle. So that means it is not a popular music. Why, because people have no taste. I mean they rather listen to the bubble gum pop music artists like Britney Spears and the rest of them 2 years talents then ever even give Freestyle a chance. But I've always said and I say this again, I don't give a rats a-- what people think. In fact I am proud of the fact that not everyone listens to our music, otherwise we'll be just like the rest of them conformists that only listen to what’s "in", just like they would only fashion what’s "in" and.........I will continue to enjoy Freestyle for as long as I live and the only regret that I'll ever have is the fact that I may never see the day when great artists come up with original old school beats. But that's ok too, for I have so many memories with what I've already been blessed with.:johnnyo

And by the way :yeey GO LEAFS GO :yeey
