I don't understand and never understood that if freestyle is just as musical as so many other genres of music, why it has never had its own category at the Grammy Awards. Even Native American music has its own category now. I can honestly say that I have never even heard a Native American song in my life or on the radio. How is this possible.
 
The whole reason is that now freestyles an "underground" genre.

the thing with the native indian genre is that in the US theres a large native rights lobby. the same applies to black rights, jewish rights, etc. Natives felt they wanted their own musical catagory to be reconginsed by and so push for one, if one wasn't granted they may cry racist or something. the U.S. has a massive latino population but already has its own latino catagory so a "latin hip hop" ie freestyle catagory wouldn't exactly be easy to get in. but i agree with you there is alot of talent in the freestyle music industry and they should get awards for their work and dedication. just gotta start writing letters or try to get a large petition in the grammy committee. that may be the only way we'll ever get a freestyle catagory at the grammys. but unless a music genres mainstream it won't really get anything. I guess life just ain;t fair sometimes

THIS IS SUCH A GOOD QUESTION BUT IF THE GRAMMYS WONT GIVE US A FREESTYLE CATERGORY IT WOULD BE GREAT IF SOMEONE TRIED TO DO SOMETHING F*** IT LETS HAVE OUR OWN AWARDS SHOW LOL. SERIOUSLY THOUGH IT ANGERS ME THAT SO MANY ARTIST SUCH AS SA-FIRE, JOHNNY O,TKA, STEVIE B,NYASIA, ETC ETC HAVE SO MANY YEARS IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY HAVE PUT IN SO MUCH HARD WORK AND I HONESTLY FEEL MORE HARD WORK THEN ANY OTHER GENRE BECAUSE IT IS SO UNDERGROUND THAT THEY SHOULD GET THE RECOGNITION AND RESPECT THEY DESERVE BUT LETS SHOW OUR LOVE AND RESPECT AS BEST AS WE CAN TO THESE ARTIST THAT HAVE MADE SUCH A BIG IMPACT IN OUR LIVES THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU'S 🙂

I have spoke about this before in a thread of mine and I strongly think there should be a "Dance Music" catagory which would then cover freestyle music and other dance "New school" music it is time for OUR Music to be recognized!!! We need to somehow petition this and this is the perfect websight to do this!!! I'm willing to do this!! Let's go my peep's!! :hearton

I don't think that Freestyle will be getting a Grammy catagory of it's own anytime soon but it is considered under the "Dance" catagory. Labels should make sure that they submit entries on time and that they are members of NARAS.

One of the reasons that things like Lionel Ritchie being nominated in the "Dance" catagory happen is because not enough of the eligible voters know anything about the music. They know the big names that are pop artists and vote them into the dance catagory.

and one thing thats stumps me is, this is only my opinon, but...why Country music gets there own grammy show! What the hell????(to me) that shit SUCKS MAJOR ASS!!!!my sister even agrees with me that and she dosent listen to freestyle, I know WAY more people who like Freestyle and NOT Country, but they get there own radio stations and everything. EWWW!!!how it can be liked and listened to more than freestyle is beyond me!😡

Freestyle never has music videos played anywhere, and the music is played on only like 4% of all the radio stations in the United States. And that is only the old stuff.

As far as the Grammy's are concerned, Freestyle has a long, long way to travel for it to appear. The Dance music categorys, Best Dance Recording, and Best Remixer, took forever to get; people campaigned for years to make it happen. And Dance music as a whole does include Freestyle.
 
The Grammys have never really been that diverse when it comes to categories. If you consider their dance category most of the nominees are almost always R&B and/or Pop artists that were nominated in their respective categories as well (Janet Jackson, N'Sync, Destiny's Child, etc.)

Until the Grammys have a HUGE facelift to include sub-genres of the main categories (eg. Freestyle is a sub-genre of the Dance category) and the current state of our music improves 110% then the Grammys will continue to overlook whatever contributions Freestyle has made over the years.

well, thats not entirely true. they used to have freestyle vidoes everywhere at one point. local tv, MTV, cable tv, public access. it was everywhere. 🙁
 
I cant wait for the day when I see artists such as TKA, Johnny O, and SaFire getting nominated in the best dance song category instead of all the mainstream artists like Cher and Janet Jackson. That will be something to cheer about!!!!

If porn stars get awards for "acting" and have shindigs in Vegas - then Miami/NYC would make a great setting for our own brand of awards..

We would just need to figure out how the judging and nominations would be fielded..

We would really have to "go back - way back" to get all of the artists who were truly dominating forces and impact makers in our industry..

I hate to say "genre" because that categorizes it as a "subclass" which our music is not..

Thats true but those are privately funded award shows!! hey.....how about getting some "freestyle songs" in the background of them pornos? Im for that!!!
 
Well - aren't venues such as this site and other Freestyle outlets "privately funded" as well???

It can be done.. If there is a true demand for it - then like it was once said - IF YOU WISH IT - IT WILL HAPPEN...

Hey - it could be a great tax write-off..

More importantly -it would give Freestyle alot of necessary forefront exposure..
