why did freestyle lose its popularity or as they say why did it die
i think it had to do with not enough albulm promoted and just single being made.
the way it should be is the albulm than promote the single off the albulm or bring out a single than put out an alblum. the record company saves money on the single and makes lots of it off the single. it came to a point that there was no need to make an albulm because the single was making lots of money.than there is the promise of an albulm that never happenes unless you can hold on to your popularity. yea its a messed up bussiness but the love keeps us in it. i love freestyle i learned how to dj with it and it opened up my eyes to the world of all music genre
so why did freestyle lose its popularity ?

I think unlike all other genres, FREESTYLE is the smallest song pumping genre. To make matters worse, some of the freestyle music being brought out today, esp. from Europe, plain sucks. Now I'm not going to sit here and name any songs to you because what may suck for me, may be somebody else's treasure song and I have no right. Also, a lot of fans are still stuck with the oldie FREESTYLE songs and well, up to now, still listen to it and are 100% loyal to it. While others who at one point were loyal to these oldies have decided to move on and proclaim> "Freestyle is dead." They just got tired and lost interest I'm sure.

Another problem I've personally observed is, esp. here in Dallas, the lack of air radio play. I mean if it wasn't for this site & and a few others, I would have never know that Willie Valentine and Poze, just to name a few, were still producing some of the nice Freestyle jams as of late. I mean, we have a station that states "The station that gives a jam!!" But the only Freestyle they play is late 80s & 90s and well, although I still love Freestyle, I won't listened to that era unless is super mega mixed or edited.

Aye Sup Well I'm A Big Die Heart Freestyle Fan Too. I Think You Both Have A Great Point. Artist Are Still Promoting Their 2002 Cd's Now. What Kind Of Sence Does Dat Make. An I So Agree None Of The Radio Here In Dallas Play Freestyle. Ok I Take Dat Back Cuz 89.3 Knon Plays It An I Love Them For It. And Once In A Blue Moon Casa 106.7 Will Play It. A New Artist Dats Coming Up Is Tavey I Gotta Give It Up To Her. Shes Good. An I Love Her Music. And Then Theres The Fact Dat Their Having The Summer Freestyle Tour An The Only Places Its Goin Is To Az And Cali. Why Cant It Go Every Wher Da U.s, Is A Big Counrty. Come To Texas, Chi-down, New York, And Florida. Dont Limte Your Self. Cuz I Got My Ticket For Az Concert. An Come June 10th Im Goin To Be There Front Row. And Dats Cuz I Live In Texas
 
hey thanks for the reply as you can see not alot did but yea you are correct i think the promotions of the music it self was week or limited to certain areas of the us like fla and ny i have some experience in this since i have artist of my own that i am managing
 
I think It might have something to do with all compilations having the same track list for 20 years and the same songs being played on the radio for the last 20 years...Til This Day , radio plays The Freestyle Hits of the 80's..Honestly How Long Do we expect that to last? 1985-2005 .

if u wanna bring freestyle back people gonna have to get off from there lazy ass and make some flyers pass them out try to get the word out go to local stations that play salsa or reggaeton give them a demo or something to promote post up things get ur people involved
 
Yup...Iys been a long time since I seen a Freestyle Street Team or Promo Pack...Its like peeps think thing just gonna happen by themselves. Its about makin things happen now, Not talkin about it..Whens the last time any one complaining about t he freestyle problem has actually called a radio station and made a request?? Im sure many but not all.

2nd thing is Theres not enough "RADIO READY" freestyle being offered to radio stations. It dont matter if it has a PLANET ROCK loop or who songs it..If some one can make a hit...it will get played..Count the releases in the past 6 years ...Its simply not enough..Freestyle gets play when they have somthin to play period. They not just gonna play any freestyle song,,it has to be GREAT..and so far no cigar..REAL TALK
 
i always thought freestyle didn't lose popularity on its own.. but rather people changed. everyone heard enough of it in the 80s and were ready for grunge by the early 90s, isnt that why. every music revolves in these cycles
 
Music does come in cycles BUT Freestyle was never "mainstream" like grunge or teen pop music - freestyle hits were regional, only hitting big in certain areas of the country like NY, Texas, Florida, Chicago and California. The highest charting freestyle record in history was TEMPTATION and even after that Corina herself admits she was dropped because the label realized she was largely indentified as a "freestyle" artist.

Major labels never truly embraced freestyle. There were some extremely talented freestyle singers for sure, who had a lot of star potential, and those are the classic artists we know and love. But there was a lot of junk being put out too that hurt freestyle's credibility. When freestyle started to get big, I believe that some freestyle producers dropped the ball by continuing to put out records where the vocals were not that great. The music would probably would have gone on much longer if, once freestyle started to rise, more attention was paid to getting great vocalists for the tracks, because then the majors would have been forced to take a better look.

A finished product that sounds off key, nasal and unpleasant to the ear does not scream out as a great investment to the majors. The music business is just that - a business. Since the major labels have the money, and money is power, what the majors dictate as the hot trend gets the radio airplay and becomes mainstream. It costs a LOT of money to get a radio station to add a single to its rotation, and that is what it all boils down to.

(Oak Cliff), so I wanted to say what's up fellow Freestyle listener. Hey, since you're so close & local, get with me if you are looking for Freestyle. Yeah, I got Tavey's... I also have Chris Diaz, Marcos B, and others I'm not allowed to mentioned. He he he!! I can do them regular, unleaded, mixed and megamixed.

Anyway, regarding this thread. I think FREESTYLE no matter how hard some of us may deny it, is for a selected few. Who knows, we may all have some related DNA in our internal body systems that keeps us hooked to it. I mean, it's like the smell of Vanilla, some people like it, while others think the smell is disgusting. To each their own as people say and blah, blah, blah for those who can care less.

Lack of originality, of creativity, of quality and lack of new interesting Freestyle releases. Comps are flooding the markets, most of the time there are terrible. Too many off-key artists...To be short on the subject!
 
Hey Suzy D, I just read Corina's letter and wow! Is one thing to come on this site & read the opinions from the regular CF-ers like myself, but to turn around and see it from a person that I'm sure is qualify to say "Been there, don't that!" is another thing.

I don't know where you are getting your information from but unfortunately, freestyle is far from "doing really good" - - I love freestyle and growing up it was one of my biggest influences in my own music career but it is NOT charting anywhere, not selling huge numbers of records and not a genre of music where someone can make a real living. Saying it is "doing really good" is like saying 70's Disco is "doing really good". Yes people will always love it and there are die hard fans who will always be loyal to the music but you have to be realistic. Freestyle the way it was is gone and the new stuff has to change with the times in order to one day make any sort of new impact on the music world.

Well I can't speak for all area's but I know Living in Delaware what hurt Freestyle music was surely the lack of promotion you would always hear a new song that came out but never knew who sung the song or who the artist was and It was really hard to even find a tape or cd's because it would never be in a section that you would think to look for it in. For me living in PA. & in DE. we never called it Freestyle music it was Always called Club or Latin Club music but in other states it's considered Freestyle music,.. and yeah I agree with the one of the previous post usually when you say Freetyle music people do think you are talking about Rap/Hip-Hop music. I know from experience when I go to a store and ask where is thier Freestyle section ??? Guess what they dont have one so I ask where is your Club Music at then and all they have is Trance-Tech that type of music which I personally don't listen too,.. So I spend alot of time searching in all sections of Labled music looking for a certain CD. So thank GOD for the internet it's surely a big help on finding what I consider to be Freestyle & or Club Music. One last note the music we love so much is for just a select few due to all the other music that is out today with the changing times. I still hold on to what I love thou. My Freestyle-Club Music Old & New.
