Who Are The fathers Of Freestyle Music?

🤖 AI Summary

No AI summary has been generated for this thread yet.
My opinion:

Arthur Baker

John Robie

Kraftwerk

Arika Bambaataa

If not for them, electro funk and freestyle would have never been.

Arthur Baker and John Robie produced the first freestyle records. "One More Shot" "I.O.U." "Play At Your Own Risk"
Those 3 songs all came out in 1982. They also produced early eletro funk which had an incredible impact upon the development of freestyle. Electro funk helped to bridge Hi-Nrg and freestyle.

The European group Kraftwerk started the whole electro dance thing.
Their song "Trans Euro Express" came out in 1977. The beat from the song was taken by Afrika Bambaataa and used for his song "Planet Rock". The beat was simply sped up. Kraftwerk found out and filed a law suit. The suit was settled amongst them. The beat pattern from "Planet Rock" (or should I say Trans World Express) become the staple for almost every freestyle song out there.

These 4 are never given credit. They ARE the roots of freestyle without any doubt. Without them, no freestyle, no way.

Just so you know, Baker also produced these early songs:

Looking For The Perfect Beat
Honey To A Bee
Cheap Thrills
I Want It To Be Real
Renegades Of Funk
Funky Soul Makossa
I Didn't Know I Loved YOu
Planet Patrol
Breaker's Revenge

and the list goes on and on.....

John Robie, who co-produced on many of the above songs, also produced these:

Be Bop Rock
Get wet
Rock Steady
Hip Hop Be Bop
Body Mechanic...

and the list goes on again.....

So again, they produced the first ever freestyle songs and electro funk. EARLY artists like C-Bank (aka Jenny Burton), Freez (aka John Rocca), Planet Patrol, Afrika Bambaataa, Tina B, Man Parrish, etc.......

Anyone who disagrees, please supply solid examples, not opinions. I don't want people to be misinformed by opinions.

I can get much more into details, but I think I've said enough for now.

Agreed. However,I would call them the Godfathers of what is call Freestyle music today. These producers were the foundation for the more melodic records that came from Chris Barbosa,Tony Moran and Albert Cabrera of the Latin Rascals who introduced the edits that we have all come to love in Freestyle Music.Of course, you can't leave out Mickey Garcia and Elvin Molina because they defined Freestyle music in the late 80's with MicMac records.Youy also had the likes of Lewis Martinee,Tony Butler and Glenn Gutierez who defined the Miami Freestyle sound.Freestyle came from electro funk and these producers are the true fathers of whatis known as Freestyle music.I'm sure I am leaving out a few but this is a quick overview.John Robie,Kraftwerk and Afrika bambata are what are call shenanesque producers.Basically they bridge disco to electro funk whick spawned freestyle.

You guys left off TONY BUTLER (Trinere, Freestyle, Debbie Deb) and LEWIS A MARTINEE (Expose, Paris By Air, Voice in Fashion, Olga). I am thinking CHEP NUNEZ (Cyre) also.

Anthony has said it all!!!!!!

I have a question for the cf'ers. Most of you on this thread acknowledge freestyle's electro influence so why is it that hardly anybody supports artists tha are doing electro and break beat music and borders on freestyle.Artists like Diana Fox,Foggy,SK8,Larissa,China Dolls,Robin Fox,Plummet,Silver blue and Fiori just to name a few. These acts have a following in Europe,Canada and Florida.Their music is similiar to the electro sounds that you are crediting for the birth of freestyle. Why is it then that everyone is stuck on the old school NY style?Who do most freestylers frown upon an artist when their music has a "progressive freestyle sound" but will say they love the electro records of the early 80's?Is it really that different sounding?I love the old school sound but isnt it time to bring a new flava to freestyle?
