I like new school freesytyle IF it's good. You have a nice point too. Those newer artists you mentioned who are doing breakbeat/electro music should be heard. I like those sounds as well. Maybe others have heard and liked them too, it's just not brought up on the board. Maybe you can start a thread on it 🙂

I have a question for the cf'ers. Most of you on this thread acknowledge freestyle's electro influence so why is it that hardly anybody supports artists tha are doing electro and break beat music and borders on freestyle.Artists like Diana Fox,Foggy,SK8,Larissa,China Dolls,Robin Fox,Plummet,Silver blue and Fiori just to name a few. These acts have a following in Europe,Canada and Florida.Their music is similiar to the electro sounds that you are crediting for the birth of freestyle. Why is it then that everyone is stuck on the old school NY style?Who do most freestylers frown upon an artist when their music has a "progressive freestyle sound" but will say they love the electro records of the early 80's?Is it really that different sounding?I love the old school sound but isnt it time to bring a new flava to freestyle?
I think it may be simply that the basic Planet Rock beat is over-used in new school freestyle.

I come to these scene, the freestyle scene from the scene of dark, progressive house and trance. I personally like freestyle that it doesn't have a progressive sound. Almost everything is underground is becoming progressive, if it isn't already.

I've loved that freestyle hasn't gone that route. Being a DJ, I like that many freestyle songs are not too long, and not too short, but a "just right" length and then mixed...you're into the next song, like a journey through freestyle, which is where DJing in the underground dance scene has been going lately. DJs have lately been putting out CDs where you go though a journey...obviously there is some progression, but the progression is not the focus right now as I have seen it lately. The focus is, how many places can I take a crowd into?

I personally like where freestyle was in the late 80s and mid 90s where the micmac sound emerged and then the sounds of viper and tazmania. Great great stuff there. 🙂 Just my 2 cents on the matter.

well, I don't know about most of those artist, I realy love Diana Fox's single, but as far as Robin Fox, well there isn't any SOUL in the songs, Freestyle Music, ALL THE OLD SKOOL songs, have soul in the songs!!

bUT STILL, I LOVE THE "wHERE ARE YOU NOW" i THINK THIS SONG HAS SOUL IN IT, NOT AS TOUCHING AS THE FREESTYLE, BUT ITS THERE!!

Thank you! That's the point I was trying to get across 🙂

If it wasn't for the Tony Moran's TKA,COVER GIRLS,SAFIRE,BRENDA K STARR,,SANDEE,STEVIE B,NOEL,SWEET SENSATION,Lisa Lisa. There would be no freestyle. That is the "soul" that you speak of.Otherwise it would just be "souless" electro music that no one considers freestyle. 😉

Micmac was timeless
Tazmania was goood
Viper was :blah

Just my two cents 🙂

I dunno if I can say viper was :blah...I enjoyed some stuff off of viper...Tazmania was definitely good in my opinion, and we're eye to eye on micmac.

Ph@tbreakz made a realy good point the artists listed above really sang with soul. Sorry to say but alot of new freestyle jams seem like they where made without any passion, just my opinion though.
