have you noticed recently that hip hop has had to "borrow" from other genres...i.e. ciara - 1, 2 step with some freestyle flavor and the JayZ/Linkin Park - Encore Duo with some alternative flavor...seems like hip hop is running out of good beats!

i dont think hip-hop is running out of beats... i just think they're expanding their horizon...

YOU Can only be on top for so long.........and Mark my words...ITS BEEN A LIL TOO LONG...FEEL ME? Hip hop Iz PLAYED OUT!! Hip Hop will never br what it was...and yes they are running out of idea's they runnin out of things to rap about it, so they attack each other now...(like wrestling) its fake entertainment.

The Bling Bling is played out, The BANG BANG is played out. The kids of today are wide open waiting for the NEXT NEW REFRESHING THING WITH A IMAGE...HINT HINT. LETS DO THIS!!!! Its TIME to RUSH the INDUSTRY and hit em wit some hard core!! WAtch it un fold! Mark my words. Thats why reggatone and dance hall is on the creep.

dude

bring back TUPAC!

let me ask you this..what rapper in our age can produce another song like dear mama?? All rappers these days just front a gansta thug appeal that's just ridiculous..so they may be thugs..but who cares ..i do'nt see how the whole thug appeal works

what about keep yea head up by 2pac? what rapper has had a song like that since him?

rappers only rap about bling bling like u said and bull$hit ..sucks..it's a shame..

RIP 2pac

well many rappers can do a song like dear mama and , But A) they dont have the ballz, B) they would get bashed like 50 cent is (tryin to be a fake ass 2pac) and then C) Street Credibility.......You cant sing some of that unless peeps know your back ground like 2pac. Today Rappers are just all hella fake. Memphis Bleek, Jarule, 50 cent,,,,thease are cats with no back ground...no crdeibility..unlike Many of ther other artists who have done time in the pen, or have been affiliated with gangs since child hood.....(not that im glorifying this) But if Im gonna listen to some gangsta rap....I want to hear a gangsta rap..not some Yale student who can bust tight flows and has a cousin in the buisness. But that is why 2pac will be remembered and stand out from the rest.

yeah freestylegal.....its had its day in the sun...now what can posibly relace it? I think Freestye has a chance , a small chance..but thats better then none. Im talkin about a NEW FREESTYLE, a NEW IMAGE, SOMETHIN FOR THE YOUTH...AFTER ALL THE YOUTH CONTROLLS THE MUSIC INDUSTRY!! SOMTHING FRESH WITH ATTITUDE THAT CAN KEEP IT REAL, THROW IN A DOPE VIDIO AND WOO LAA!! OK SO ALL I WANNA KNOW IS WHOS COMMIN WITH ME? C'MON .....WHOS COMMIN WITH ME? jk

Sorry, But I Disagree..... C'mon People... What Sells.. Rap, Hip Hop! So Obviously Thats What Is Listened To Most. Dont Get Me Wrong, I Lovefreestyle, But Seriously, Rap And Hip Hop Are What Sells. I Love Hip Hop And Rap As Well. Hip Hop And Rap Will Never Die.

I feel ya Roxy, I'm a 100% freestyle fan, but I think saying that Hip Hop/Rap is played out or dieing is like saying Rock is dead, not a chance! Hip Hop/Rap is what the youngsta's want, and they are the shot callers of what gets played. If anything, we should enjoy hearing the Freestyle Elements that are being used for Hip Hop, cause it might be for a limited time only! 😀

What Im saying is this.....almost all songs being played on your local Hip Hop / RnB Station SUCK! No Creativity, No Skillz, Half the beats today only have maybee 3 trax on them. I heard a few songs that are strictly a drum loop and vocals. Im talking about the all around production. Of course I know what sales, Of course I know what is In , and what is considerd hot.....Im not blind. But its not the music the kids are in to , its the Image that comes with the music. If this still dont make sence, Take Music Theory Class.

Hey Unique, I feel ya, But the question wasnt "whare is hip hop today" The question was "Whare hip hop is going" 😉

no doubt

i would hope to see hip hop die out and sit in the background and have other genres come into play as more mainstream such as freestyle and maybe dance music..kind of like Europe, where it's mostly trance/dance music and hip hop sits in the background as the other music...

offtopic..but I bet you ask 20 people what freestyle music is..only 1 person may have heard of it..i'm from the bay area and one of hte stations plays freestyle music on fridays which is kinda cool

I agree, and its ironic the music we do is called "freestyle" , but like you said the USA is the only contry that really shuns dance music......AISA, EUROP, SOUTH AMERICA, are all heavy in to dance. My science teacher once said......"THE ONLY THING IN LIFE THAT NEVER CHANGES, IS CHANGE ITSELF" Dwell on that and tell me HIP HOP will forever run the Radio waves. Yes it will always be played no doubt, but in the future it well share its spot light with other genres.

Yo DJCHAM, I agree with what you said about asking peeps what freestyle is, But remember the generation gap that missed out on this genre when it fizzled out back in The Late 90's, But if you ask any one IN SAN JOSE in they Late 20's about freestyle , they tell you what your looking for. You see todays youth is unfamelier with this music simply cause thay missed out, and if you bring it to them (some new stuff) they will feel it like we did. Not all, but many.

i dont like hip hop or rap...never did like 2pac...his momma was hardcored...he was a nerd while growing up...Chuck made him!!2 b the thug he was n led the way..!!

Like i said... its not running out of beats. Hip-Hop (in my opinion) is just showing the roots of which it came to be... am i a making sense ? its showing that not all beats are made in the studio... that some are remade... some are borrowed from music that some ppl havent heard of (IE:freestyle). Hip-Hop is justing showing that it can do collabo's with artist that aren't hip-hop. Now im only speakin as a hip-hop fan... Some of u have said its dying off...but down here...it has taken a backseat to music like reggeaton, soca, dance and freestyle.

As for the Tupac thing... there is no rapper like Tupac... nor will there ever be. He was as real as they come. thats why ppl liked him, cuz he spoke about what others didnt. No other rapper can say what he said. He rapped about what he saw. Some have tryed sounding like him, even try to act like him.. but unsuccesful. You cant duplicate what that man said or did...

As for freestyle not being heard by todays youth.. eh... thats a negative...it was all i heard when i grew up... i also know plenty of ppl who grew up on it as well... now whether they decided to follow the music is a different thing. there are plenty of ppl who hear it now on the radio (Party 93.1:spin ) n are like "damn... thats old... i didnt know they still played this". If u put it out there, ppl will listen... young or old... but it has to be something good.

LoL... ok i think i made my point n got a lil off topic :cool

Black Eye Peas, Outkast, The Roots are the only true Hip Hop. Hip hop eerrr Hip Pop, that what it is now!!! The Music is losing it's edge, it's all about glam and bling now. Ludacris is no better than Justin Timberlake!!

I am NOT a Hip Hop fan but I have respect for the style. Hip Hop has never been about "one thing" (except for that brief period in the early 90s when it was all GANGSTA!). You can do almost ANYTHING with Hip Hop, and that's why it appeals to so many on so many different levels.

I think Hip Hop is melting into the mainstream. For those purists that like the underground vibe, there's always a hungry young rapper with dark, edgy rhymes and beats.

Of course, there's the MAINSTREAM ("HIP POP") about played out, superficial sh*t like "bling". I guess that's what happens when something gets very POPular. And is that such a bad thing?

In my school, MANY kids (black, latino, asian AND white) looove Hip Hop.

Although I'm not a fan, I gotta give respect where it's due..

I think Hip Hop is here to STAY.
