I like hip hop, so as long as theres a hot beat that moves me, interesting use of samples & sounds, and a decent rap with a catchy hook, I'm gonna be into it.... don't care that it's not "real" rap cause that's subjective.... I look at the producers use of samples as a creative thing.... if i like the song I'm gonna listen to it even if it's not conveying the deepest messages.... and i don't see hip hop letting up anytime soon and being considered played........... 🙂

I completely agree with djcham. 1-2 step is full of freestyle beats. If anything, that's what makes the song good.
It's time to bring Freestyle back on the airwaves. The return of Tony Monaco's freestyle Frenzy on Sunday afternoons would be great.

No other rapper can say what he said. He rapped about what he saw. Some have tryed sounding like him, even try to act like him.. but unsuccesful. You cant duplicate what that man said or did...

As for freestyle not being heard by todays youth.. eh... thats a negative...it was all i heard when i grew up... i also know plenty of ppl who grew up on it as well... now whether they decided to follow the music is a different thing. there are plenty of ppl who hear it now on the radio (Party 93.1:spin ) n are like "damn... thats old... i didnt know they still played this". If u put it out there, ppl will listen... young or old... but it has to be something good.

The artist your referring to is YUKMOUTH a former member of the "LUNIEZ" (I got 5 on it) Hes from Oakland, CA and apparently 50 cent pissed him off by saying something or using "Igot 5 on it" in a skit...I dont know the details. He is in all 3 videos, I got 2 of the videos from my younger brother , and 1 from a freind...Thease guys are in to Hip Hop, Im not. How ever I was once heavy in Rap and even had rap battles in my neighbor hood. If I get some more , I'll let you know. I know its funny stuff, lol.

Diamond Girl, You may have grown up on freestyle and the same with some of your freinds.......But unfortunately the rest of the kids are clueless. Not all But most....dont beleave me still? Coduct a survry, let me know the results. This is a topic Ive been on for a while...and if things work out the way they supposed to ....things are gonna change slowly but surely.
 
I'm a highschool teacher and I know that dance music is in fact heard by today's youth. But honestly, there is a huge range of interests; my students listen to all different kinds of genres and yes hiphop will always be around but that's like anything else.
And for the record, if you look at stuff like Planet Rock for example, what do you call that? A classic freestyle hit that maybe most people would call "hiphop" today.
What is freestyle anyway? For example, some of my students who heard my song, "I Wonder Why", on Invasion 4 released this past Tuesday called my song a "freestyle" song. Well, it isn't and I think many are confusing euro and freestyle together now-a-days.
We need to bring the classic freestyle back to show some of these people what freestyle really is. I miss hearing Shana, Debbie Deb, Trinere, Cover Girls....etc. etc. etc and obviously this list may not do freestyle justice and I do realize there are tons of amazing classics out there that people don't hear anymore. One thing's for sure though, freestyle isn't dead...Hardcore freestyle fanatics are still out there, hence the name: "Club Freestyle"!!!
 
No Doubt, I know a small ARMY of kids who bump freestyle myself, Youngstas In the mid to late teens........Dont mean its like that every whare else. Like I said Coduct a Survry, Show me the results...and Keep in mind, You being In Canada and me being in California, Could mean variose results, for variouse reasons. CALIFORNIA is THE HIGHEST GANG ACTIVITY STATE IN THE USA. Meaning our kids are more likely to be gang affiliated and in to RAP, I dont know much about Canada and if you have the same Gang related Homicide rates we do out here. But my Survey has been conducted, and I know how things are out here, and not just through polls, but hands on.....You can best beleave Im on this. If Canada Is all about freestyle , thats fantastic! The battle is half way done. But with a California High School student.......Freestyle is somthin for Aunts , Uncles, Older Brothers, and Older Sisters...With the exception of Breakin crews and young Freestyle heads. Like I said , I know a small army....But this is Minority......not Majority...HoOOoooOOOOOLLAaaaAAAA!!!

Rap & Hip Hop are two different things to me...

Hip Hop - is hip hop, dj'n, breakdancing, freestyling, graffit, battling, true lyricism, positive vibes/attitudes......all that good ol stuff....that will never die......

Rap - is what is going on now adays....rapping, bling blingin, riding on dubs, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ing bitches, smoking blunts......that will fade out sooner or later.....rap is all about fads....who got the latest shit, who got the most this, who can do that, who know's who, who has the biggest rims......

the rap industry is like highschool....

but also, this industry is finally opening it's horizon....ie: mixing rock, latin etc with hip hop.....

reagaton is blowing up as we speak....look out for that.....

I hear ya.. but I dont see Rap fading anytime soon..Rap is the VOCALIZATION of a lotta peeps today.. Its where they go to EXPRESS their outlook on whats going in their world.. Its most DEF here to stay.. Im not a Rap or Hip hop fanatic.. hell.. I can only listen to some of that for a minute..but to say that its a FAD? Umm.. disagree..
 
I miss the 90s hip-hop! All this now is makin me sick!! I miss the likes of Naughty By Nature, AZ, Smoothe Da Hustler, Erick Sermon, Pac, Biggie and others!!! That for me was the best of Hip-Hop!

Playa JT recent projects include Tons Of Bay Area Rap Compilations working with Hitters like Baby Bash, E-40, Mac Dre, Celly Cell.,,,Young DRU..Etc. Johnny Z (one of the producers of N2 Deeep...Also produced a few Freestyle trax back and the day and even did a Colaberation With FREESTYLE RECORDING ARTIST "JULISSA"
