yes back in the day there were several labels (independent and major) putting good freestyle and bad as well but that comes with any style of music......
Metropolitan put out good freestyle in the late 80s and early 90s
I am talking about Metropolitan as a label not as a Distributer because they did distribute viper and tiamo....(which had a few good songs mainly trash though)...but the Metropolitan label it self (not as a distributer)...was a freestyle power house and put out alot of good music....
these lables where dedicated and known for and put out alot of good freestyle:
metropolitan
mic mac
cutting
fever
onna roll
high power records
of course you have serverl other lables like Frankie mentioned criminal records,next plateau,tommy boy, etc, however these lables put out only some freestyle....
Micmac,cutting,metropolitan,onna roll,fever,high power.....where known for dedicated freestyle....and alot of it
then come mid 90s, you also had tazmania,hot,artistik ,viper,tiamo,hot productions
also Frankie says alot of the garbage freestyle that came out is one of the reasons freestyle faded away.....I have to largely disagree with this statement.....because there is tons of garbage hip hop , house , trance , etc and the music continues to be produced and sold so how do you explain that? you have your good and bad in any style of music.....besides when freestyle started to fade away in the early 90s there was alot of good freestyle being produced....so that statement does not make much sense.... Bad freestyle realy started to come out in in the masses around the mid 90s...but freestyle had already preety much faded out at this point already anyways...........the reason it faded out was because hispanics did not stick together in the industry and make there voice heard when it came to freestyle...if they did freestyle would still be going strong today...

Frankie- Just because Lil' Louie Vega didn't play any Metropolitan tracks during your time at those clubs you mentioned doesn't validate the fact that Metropolitan sucked.

What about those nights when you weren't there?

Cheesey Freestyle? A lot of people would classify Freestyle as cheesey. Lots.

I feel if big DJ's like the Little Louie Vega didn’t touch your record you had a problem. Come on Where Freestyle Music Started? and Who Broke the most Freestyle Recrds? DJ's with great integrity will play great Freestyle records. My opinion Metro never had great records
 
One problem with Metro was that a lot of their records had poor sound quality and were pressed on shit vinyl.

There were tons of great artists on that label though, like April, Sebastian, Joey Gold, Laissez Faire. The whole Vol1 of Freestyle Extravaganza Mega Mixx is slammin!

Everyone has one, and doesn't make it right or wrong. Just how you feel.

Maybe the DJs where you worked didn't touch Metro. That was their choice. I can remember listening to WKTU when they would play freestyle, and I've heard them play Sebastian, April, Deniz, Laissiez Faire, and Chereé, all Metro acts.

well glenn friscia played metropolitian records and he was a big dj...one of the longest on air live mix show dj's...
 
and for the record lil louie did play april some one to hold i was there when he played it in 1990..

So did Hot 1035's Jeff Romanowski. In fact, he mixed the first few Metro Freestyle Extravaganza Mega Mix albums.
 
So the overall question was never really answered, LOL??!!! What happened to him besides becoming a lawyer.......

Maybe its because I am not in the record business and do not understand BUTTTT "How do you just walk away from the business and do a different career and never REALLY look back?" Yeah, do the lawyer thing but I figure if I had worked hard in making a name for myself that I would always make sure it remains in some sort or another......anyway, it would be cool to hear an interview or side of the people who started Metropolitan and how that experience was......

No doubt that not all music that came from that label was the best BUT I would have to say that it sure was a label that kept our music alive up until the late 1990s. Also, this label was not the reason for freestyle falling off the radar of the major labels and radio stations....lets just face it....times had just simply changed!!!
 
I'd be curious to know as well. It's like they all fell off the face of the earth. That label did put out some good stuff. Mark Milan, Laissez Fairre, Nino, and who could ever forget Sebastian's hot voice.
 
Vinnie Politan quite the label and gave it to his partner Jerry Salerno. Vinnie went back to schoola and became a lawyer. Him and his dad own and run COURT TV. He appears on Fox News from time to time and does a radio show. BY THE WAY, I THINK THOSE GUYS STILL OWE ME MONEY!
 
There probably could be if the artists even cared to sing again. Most of them of course are married and moved on like Vinnie has so i doubt they still care anything about Freestyle Music.
