I've admire your work in music Sal B.....and ur right 100%....as a DJ and perfomer.....I would never play a new skool freestyle record that sounded like it was pulled out of the 80s.......i don't even play the old well know artist...you know the ones that do have a chance.....turning as a DJ has givining me the chance to listen to tons of dance music...and i can say I've heard some good stuff with freestyle elements....Freestyle should should...something like.....southern break beats great sound of breaks and Trance....or even a cross of euro-dance with freestyle like Rockell...she is a great example ......Im currently working on some songs....and for the first time im putting elements of all the sounds that have inspire me....but you bet it doesnt' sound like freestyle of the 80' or 90's.....its dance music of today...the way i see....if anyone would like to hear or know about my work....please type Mann-e Treavor on your search the web box.....thanks and good luck to all artist in dance..much love

I believe that old school freestyle should be redigitized, with new beats and remaster it.
I got the Judy Torres Greatest hits 2004 and it sounds great!!! add the funky old school sound but add a little bit of salsa or punk rock or some rap flip it around start if off slow with some old school and speed it up with new school i think that would get peoples attention and also they need to have more radio stations to play it. Look at Rockell they played In a dream and people over here requested 24/7 5 times aday i hope freestyle will come back with strong feedback

SAL B, K7 are talking...LISTEN..Here are 2 Experienced FREESTYLE icons. If anyone Knows the answer its them. I Agree with them, and wholeheartedly believe these 2 will break out the NEW millenium Freestyle jAMz. The kind that ALL races will sing and dance to. My Money is on them. I have a question for them 2..Where can I purchase the stock and can you hook me up with a prospectus and a future outline of what sounds like a sound investment?

Classic freestyle sounds like doo whop was to the 50's everyone sounded the same singing, and music tracks as well. That era is gone and was doomed when every walk of life wanted to be a freestyle singer.. Artists slapped vocals using everyone's vocal melody and same beat patterns.(most famous pattern used..Planet Rock)...so some artitsts then added a twist and gave it more strings, orch hits, heavt piano key pounding....short lived..why...same vocal melody..(same car..bigger tires...OoOooo)....My idea is to select what you are trying to promote..the artist or the music track? If its the artist then,,,build the music around the artist and emphasize on the artist not the music..the music most likely is a basic drum pattern with samples tweaked till your fingers bleed "when freestyle met R&B".call it "FRB".. This is with minimum musical instruments which usually steals the purpose of artist you trying to promote..Now if you are trying to promote the music...use less vocals and more strings, hits, pads, euro/techno style sounds...tweak anything that sounds good till your fingers bleed.....and promote only Freestyle musical beats with no vocals...( i was going to do promote idea this back in the late 80's and early 90's cuz all artists sounded the same...thus making my own instrumentals with no vocals and supplementing strings as vocal patterns with twists and harmonies made is sound like a new sound..with no vocals or minimum vocals.."when freestyle met euro"...call it "Feuro"...idea never launched due to no one who I knew at that time didnt like the concept....now 10 yrs later with better sounding equipment and less expensive hardware...its easier to make at home with no Major studio hassles..all at a click of a mouse button and software. I still do music at home part time as a hobby..

forgot to mention...the vocals or lyrics...should be shortened down to 8 measures or less..they take too long on 16 measures or 32...and drag the track more with all the details of a relationship...no more singing about the love I lost, tears in eyes..why you break up with me...why i need you back...just love me and hold me...I always love you..Im sorry for my love..get away from the drum beat of a kick drum and snare in this pattern...BOOM BOOM Pop...BOOM BOOM Pop...this my own opinion..just voice in the pool

Musically, I think that freestyle should sound like Aubrey's "If You Don't Know Me By Now".

That song has been on KTU for a while now, and I think it has a freestyle sound.

good thinkintg smedina....u could have made something of you proceeded with ur thoughts....or you probably did and i don't know

Damn! I just typed a nice long message and the page crashed. Bummer.

Here is the short version. New to site and haven't followed freestyle since early 90s. Recently heard Aubre's song on KTU and thought, wow, that sounds like fresh freestyle. A search on the web for Aubrey turned up zero, so I started searching for freestyle and found you guys.

Many people are abandoning the radio because the music is stale and formulatic. They are turning to the web services like ITunes, Napster, and Musicmatch. Also turning to sat radio like XM and Sirius.

If the people that program for sat and web services, can get freestyle their own channel, it will do a lot to revive it. I think that is sad that I hear a freestyle sound song like Aubre and I can't find it on Musicmatch. Forget about hearing it on XM radio. Their dance channels are too trance. Musicmatch has many genres, but Freestyle isn't one of them.

So somebody here should seriously consider approaching at least XM and sweet talk them into launching a freestyle channel. Even if it's only 50 percent freestyle, it's better than what we have now.

By the way, a lot of the Russains in NYC love Freestyle. Only problem is that they think they invented it! LOL

Hey Slocko!

Nice to see someone else thinks that "If You Don't Know Me By Now" is freestyle. Or at least "freestyle-ish".

In response to what I have just read, one thing is for sure Mr, Sal B is a legend in this game. Freestyle in my opinion was it's own destruction..
Buy that I mean to many guys were out there calling themselves producers and writters, but not one of them were doing anything different.
The music all sounded the same.
The reason my song Temptation(Corina)(Atlantic-Cutting) did so well is because it sounded different from what was already out there.
Carlos Berrios took The music I did for Corina And did a superb Production, Think about it hip hop beats with a dance edge(Latin hip hop) ring any bells to anyone reading this.
My name is Capri. I wrote the music to Corinas hit Temptation and I also wrote and Produced the Ballad No Excuse on Corina Album..And to this day one of the few freesyle records to sell the amount of units it sold was Temptation.
The Cover Girls
Sweet Sensation
Stevie B
Noel
George Lamond, Just to name A few had one thing in common. They Are all freestyle artist but yet they all had a different sound.
A different sound, Like Information Society says (Think About it).
