Aight Much love 2alll Peace....

What freestyle needs is some new artists that can put it down just like the old school artists did. If they don't want to work with freestyle no more, thats fine!!!! We the fans, future producers, artists, and etc... will do whatever it takes to get the engine going! I think it can take one GOOD artist that can change the system in the freestyle game, and some of you laugh and say keep dreaming, freestyle has its time, and blah blah, I'm tired of hearing of that shit, and I agree with you PRicanprice, DJ's and radio need to peep game and play this type of music! REVOLUTION IS THE SOLUTION THAT WILL END THIS CONFUSION TO THOSE THAT CONTAMINATED THIS ART AND CREATED POLLUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sal B

You are correct with your views, because these are the views of the industry.
Sal is not trying to be the bad guy it not easy for a hardcore freestyler to hear or except what Sal is saying but it's the reality of the music business.
With our album we released in the last month we had songs with that classic freestyle feel, but even Nu Image knows that a change needs to happen.
We are currently working on the next album and we will be working with different producers one of which is Ivan MATE Cheverez. MATE will definately help us capture a more latin urban feel.

Vic of Nu Image will also be producing a few tracks and believe me he is totally in tune with a new sound. We are taking our flavor and fusing it with todays sound but at the same time not losing some of the synths that actully give you some of that freestyle flava you all love.

K7 has been saying this for GOD knows how long and he has been right.
Just to show you that it can be done Nu Image is putting the cards on the table and extending an invatation to K7 to bring a NEW URBAN LATINO FLAVA along with Nu Image to all of you.

What do you say Kay?
I could definately hear your flow with Tyree doing some soulful adlibs and Myself &Vic
keeping some of that what they know flava element. Bringing to the streets from the streets and from the heart.
I think it's an awsome idea, I know MATE would definately slamm that track he knows both sounds well.

Ok, Here We Go!

I just listened to 7 more new school freestyle cd`s over the weekend that up and coming artists sent to me.First I would like to say that if your going to do dance music please stop with the 1987 to 1993 sounds. Please!!!
Make good music from the heart that will touch yourself as others. It`s 2004 and freestyle has morphed into today`s sounds of artists like Reina,Tina Ann etc.If you want to be successful in Dance music start doing some new and creative things. Some of these artists that I hear are very talented, but are wasting their time and money by making demo`s with weak material.I would rather see an artists save their money, and wait untill they can create a great demo with a great producer. You can be the most talented vocalist in the world and a bad track with bad vocal production will cut you down to a artist with a bad track and weak vocals.Don`t settle for a ok sounding demo.Get a plan together before you enter the studio and do it right.I don`t want to piss on anyone`s parade, but all this weak material has to stop being sent around. It`s a embrassesment for the artists and for freestyle or dance music. Back in July of 2003 I did a freestyle concert that had a lot of new school freestyle artists. The artists that I picked for that show I felt were some of the stronger new artists out, and I would still like to see many of those artists
doing some stronger material. If you have the talent use it the best way you can. Many of the so called old school freestyle artists aren`t doing freestyle because it does not sell.If a established freestyle artist with a fanbase can`t get any radio why would radio break a record of a up and coming freestyle artists. If I`m the PD I would play a Coro record before I play a new freestyle artist. Selling 2,000 or 40,000 units is not selling well. It`s a start but that start can hurt you more than help you.Wouldn`t you rather do a track that is strong and sell maybe 100,000 to 1,000,000.Yes it will be pop.Oh yeah I said it POP,but all POP is is popular music. You can still have a freestyle element and sell well.Look at Rockell, that had a freestyle element with a updated today sound.
I want to see everyone who loves this music and who loves to sing become superstars.I love freestyle as much if not more than anyone, but someone needs to state the truth. The days of freestyle with the old sounds have almost no chance of ever getting on steady rotation around the country.I am not posting here to diss anyone.Rather I am giving you the truth of what many industry people won`t tell you.
I love DOO WOP music, but I`m not going to make a record sounding like a song from the 50`s.I might remake one with an updated sound ,and that`s all I am telling you.Keep freestyle alive by advancing it.Don`t let it linger anymore in the 80`s.Bring it to 2004.Write about love and the pains of love like most of the great freestyle songsdid, but make it edgy with all the sounds of today.
Much Love and respect to all!!!
May your dreams and desire`s never die untill all is achieved........

I GOT THAT NEW SOUND, I WON'T REALLY SPAEK TO MUCH ON IT CAUSE SOMEBODY MIGHT TAKE IT, BUT ON THIS NEW SOUND THAT I'M DOING, LET'S JUST SAY THAT I'M PUTTING FOUR OF THE HOTTES VOCAL'S ON IT, GEORGE LAMOND, SAFIRE, AND I'M WAITTING FOR LISA LISA TO GET BACK AT ME, AND I'M STILL THINKING A LOT WHO SHOULD BE THAT FOUTH ARTIST, I HAVE TWO IN MIND,

I agree with Sal B's comment, the quality of the musics are too low them whem freestyle started. Seems that happened the inverse of other musics style. The first musics where too better produced tham the musics made now. Because of this the producers and djs who started with freestyle are getting well succeded carrer in other styles, like Lil Louie vega, Todd Terry, Tony Moran, etc.

I agree with most of this thread....but good songs can make a dofference......
lol...by that I mean...it would be awesome if a freestyle or dance song "crossed over"...
and I have a few dieas how that could happen......

Sal B....can we talk????? Call me. I would like to catch up with you anyway!

Hey Sal, Yes I do have a freestyle label, how many records do I have in steady rotation around they country? I wont find out till I release the material I'm working with, but I will definitely have an answer for you. Yes, I’m using the eighty sounds , and I'm not getting into details of how I'm going about it, however, I know who you are, your a legend, I seen The Kings & Queens of Freestyle DVD, and I respect your work! And I agree with you of the true harsh reality of the classic sounding freestyle IS impossible to get radio adds, but someone has to change the typical techniques that freestyle has been using but at the same thing maybe an eighties sounds to go along with it. Every genre has its comebacks, and I think radio wont play our songs because it doesn't attract the youngsters. In my opinion the mainstream has the youth sold on artists like Eminem, 50 cents, etc... Freestyle should come out with a video that the youth can relate too, and I'm not talking about Hoochies with G strings, or flashing all that Gold, and bling bling or whatever today's video bring to the table, but something that will spark the youngster eye like a huge car show, breakdancers, DJ's, and pretty models. Something new or something that the youngsters can relate to. Most of the youngsters now are stuck on that thug shit or hard music and personally I'm sick and tired it. I understand most of the freestyle fans are around my age and older, and I hear that it was our time, and now it’s gone, blah blah blah. To keep it alive change is necessary but yet still keep the old school sound alive. If you meant the same thing, My apologies bro, I just want to make a difference in this freestyle game, and I respect lots of producers and artists work, but freestyle needs to step up to the plate and Swing Batta Swing just like K7 did so we can make this music Goodie Goodie just like Lisette did, but keep it freestyle!
Guys in reference to the youngsters and what people want to hear....The youngsters love the sound. It's new to them because they weren't around or were too small when freestyle was still big. You're right about some of the 80's stuff with the exception of the all time greats (Stevie B., Cynthia, TKA, Lis Suzy just to name a few) The kids love the early and mid 90's material and the big hits from the late 80's. I have a ton of freestyle cd's and a 13 year old son who has a lot of friends. They can't get enough of freestyle and constantly ask to borrow some of the cd's. I cruise around with freestyle music blaring out of my car and I can't tell you how many times I've been asked, "what was the name of that song and where can I get it. The youngsters are getting tired of the same old same old and want to hear something different. Now is the right time to bring freestyle back to what it should be...#1.

OMG!!!!! Thats what Im saying!!!! The Kids today Missed out on the whole freestyle bang so to the newer generation....This music is new. Listen to LIl JOHN and the East side Boys....Do you hear the freestyle influence in this music?? I do.....How bout BG and Juvinile??? Its there too. Now is the perfect time to bring it back. Hip Hop is indeed playing itself out and honestly I think a new dope freestyle song on the radio would be refreshing for every one. Ive even had a few black kids ask me what I was listning to, and I explained to them all about freestyle. The Kick, Clap , High Hat, and mobbed out bass lines are always catchy. then sprinkle it with some bells and strings!!!! Thease Kids are ready for freestyle. The Time is now...and I honestly beleave the future holds great things to come for freestyle. This is positive Street Beat that any one can relate to...and like I said Hip Hop Is becomeing more and more--> :sleep Freestyle will bring back the -> :cparty in todays music.

PEACE!!

To All

HI TO ALL

I SEE WHAT EVERYONE IS SAYING. THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY AND EVERYONE HAS A POINT. WE ALL KNOW FREESTYLE WILL NEVER BE WHAT IT WAS BUT WE ARE TRYING TO HOLD ON TO WHAT IT ONCE WAS. :spliff

Freestyle in 2004 should sound like the Johnny Budz remix of "Deja Vu" by The Roc Project. Excellent song and strong production with an equally strong vocal. Kudos to Budz for saving that song. It just got added to KTU.

I agree. Also, the Johnny Budz radio edit of "Never" by the Roc Project (the version they played on Z100(!), which was ranked at #84 for 2003) is much, much better than the single version they played on KTU. Why didn't they support their own and play the Budz remix? Sorry, Johnny. I think you've got great talent and vision for the freestyle and dance music of today.

You're right. I think what we mean here is that young people consider euro and pop house to be sissy music. Freestyle is different in that it has more of a street element and that's why young people who know about it like it. When freestyle artists sell out and do euro and pop it makes it look as if freestyle is associated with "sissy music".
Not all Euro and Pop is Sissy Music, When Trance is Inc. to the groove, Teens, Young 20's and Older consider that to be wheres its at and will be like that for a while...
Everything must evolve, even dance music, and the artists which sing it...The best we can do as songwriters/Producers/Artists is inc some of the sounds of freestyle into the new dance genres that exist today...

Oh Damn!
Brothers!
Can we all just get ALONG!!!

Although everyone has great points and are kind of speaking out of anger, I believe SALB has incredible entreprenuerial ideas! And definately a cut above the rest! We don't know each other SAL but, KUDOS to ya, sir!
I wish that my used to be, so called group and I would have met you but we got our act together when Freestyle was dying back in '92
I'm sure you would have loved what we had to offer. (I still have the rythms and beats on tape and I'm sure I can change the synthesis with the new machines/sounds out today) If you or Unique are interested in listening to a few of them send me an email:
neo_nectaris@yahoo.com
(I am not worried about either of you guys stealing my material because if Freestyle does make a huge come back you'll be looking for talent like me!)

UNIQUE, I feel your anger and am there with you pertaining to Hip Hop (War Music).
How many times can Jay Z, Naz, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Tupac, Biggie and whoever talk about killing someone's grandmother with a filed down toothbrush and raping someone's daugther? The day of worshiping jailbirds and their clothing styles is soon to be over.
Their hate spreading as well as their music, will kill their styles off and the genre too.
As for the 80's Synthesis sounds I would love to stuff it down the ears of these clown dressing, spoiled brats today! Maybe issuing a draft is not a bad idea after all???

On a positive note:
I think what KTU & Judy Torres are doing here in NYC is great.
I think that Miami & California keeping Freestyle alive is great!
I think what ClubFreestyle.com is doing is extraordinary and incredibly bold.

Let's keep the faith everybody and hope that Freestyle will rise above the junk that were are forced to hear today!

Freestyle 4ever!!!
