I completely agree with the general substance of this thread. Freestyle needs to change, but not too much. Look at Rockels- In A dream and George Lamonds -Lately.
Those songs had a new style too it but remained freestyle and they both jammed. . Everybody here in Miami likes freestyle but there needs to be a change to make it mainstream. TKA tried to abandon it and Power 96 played their stuff on the radio one day when they were in the studio and it sucked. Sorry TKA I love you but that album was almost unlistenable. All we need are good songs with strong production values and a little luck.

I agree , Like I stated earlyer , freestyle did change and progress, but by the time that happened it was too late. People were already programed in to thinking that freestyle music was strictly 80's electro and had died. Its like rite when we were finally fully equiped with ammo and Armor..........the war had ended. I listen to the newer stuff and it sounds fine. People always ask me what Im listning to and whare do you buy it. its well liked but hella hard to find. it fell off the map and screwed things up. Now I do think SOME of the New school being released still sounds hella old. But Some new School is on the right track..........................Too Bad it will never be heard or reconized.

The reason why freestyle was once so strong was cuz it related to young people. Most guys in their late teens and twenties make fun of pop music and euro.

I totally agree with you, most young folks think that all dance music is sissy music or as they would call it "gay music" ( no offense to you folks), because they would rather appeal to that thug shit, so they rather teach a women how to stunt then to listen to a love song! But yet they are still listening to slow jams, and R&B which contains love lyrics as well. The question should be HOW CAN WE MAKE AN IMPACT THAT WILL APPEAL TO THE YOUTH THAT WILL PUT FREESTYLE BACK ON TOP?????????????????????????

Were im From , freestyle is Music for Racers, clubbers, Gangstaz, and Fine Ass Breezys. But im a Generation 2 Freestyla, so take it for what its worth.

You're right. I think what we mean here is that young people consider euro and pop house to be sissy music. Freestyle is different in that it has more of a street element and that's why young people who know about it like it. When freestyle artists sell out and do euro and pop it makes it look as if freestyle is associated with "sissy music".

freestyle will never be the same unless fans can allow it to grow and change every other genre of music that is still relevent today was allowed to do so

the beats should sound alot harder and expand to the dance floor mixes rather than the tired ass ''planet rock'' beat. my opinion...someone gotta problem wit' it?

ps..Instead of bitchin' about what the state of Freestyle is go to a show or two and make something of it than wasting time and ramblin' on.....support the artists.

Every artists wants their music to go POPular.( Thats how you sell units and make money)You are not a sell out if you love and believe in the music you are doing.Freestyle WAS the music for young people, but now it`s the hip hop movement or maybe people listen to rock.Dance music has a very small place in the industry and freestyle even smaller.Dance music that does sell well goes POP.
Most freestyle artists need to work day jobs because they can`t support themselves with their freestyle carrers. That`s not keeping anything real for thier talent.Make Big records get Big paydays.

I love it how artists use the excuse for not doing freestyle anymore so they can make a living or get paid. 99% of them don't make anything doing their other music anyway minus say a Marc Anthony or someone.

In 2001 I heard people say "this is the year for a freestyle comeback".

In 2004 I'd like someone to tell me the same thing and I'll tell you Elvis will hit #1 on the top 10 tommorrow.

LOL, OK but you have to think ..SUMMER is Coming so now it will be a lil more clear as far as shows and releases. I know Here in the Bay its makin a LIL more noise then it was foe a while and like I said I know of about 4 Cali Projects that are in there final stages of getting wrapped up. Also In The Last 4 weeks Here In Nor-Cal There has been a Freestyle performance evry weekend, so far....thats a good sighn.

I dont think freestyle should ever lose that urban sound, some of the new songs that I've heard (have'nt heard that many) sounded kinda like that gay ass euro shit!!!

freestyle will fade away unless there is a chance for it to evolve a bit as far as the euro stuff they tend to take a whole lot more chances with there sound and thats why i like it

yeah, I agree. with Heart throb and Edalgiere. We freestyle is ansd always was Street beat. it should stay that way. The Euro sound is dope but played out. the vibe I always got from Euro at least to me, was this was a newer generation of freestylas and it had a heavy trance , break influence.I like the sound, but reconize it instantly and feel it shold be a little more diverse. Again, I think freestyle doese need a few changes but nothing major and the real problem is promotion marketing and a generation gap, between us and the kids today. We need movies and vidios. we need money. I live in Cali were Freestyle is still big with the import racers and the asians , its still alive just kept very quiet, WE NEED TO BLOW IT UP.

And how is that gonna happen? Here in Chicago the only people that like it are the Mexican and Arabian people. I think that I'm the only white guy that loves it out here. 😉

iF ALL THE PEOPLE FROM COAST TO COAST WOULD GET TOGEATHER AND PUT THEY MONEY TOGEATHER AND FOCUS ON BLOWIN THE SHIT OUT OF IT , IT WOULD HAPPEN. ITS THE FACT THAT THE ogS LOST FAITH IN THE MUSIC THATS FUKUN EVRYTHING UP. THERE THE ONES WHO KNOW WHAT STEPS TO TAKE BUT PLAIN OUT DONT DO SHIT. WHATS EVEN WORSE IS THE TORCH WAS NEVER PASSED DOWN. YOU GOT US LIL PEOPLE TRYIN TO JUMP UP AND GRAB IT SO WE CAN KEEP IT GOIN AND THERES NO FKN HELP FROM ANY ONE EVEN THE OG FREESTYLAS. tHATS WHY I BELEAVE THE NEXT WAVE OF FREESTYLE WILL BE COMMIN FROM NIGGAS LIKE US WITH DRUM MACHINES AND KEY BOARDS. i KNOW ONE THING FOR SURE THE WEST WILL KEEP PUTTIN OUT FREESTYLE, THATS A FACT.

Hey Sal, Yes I do have a freestyle label, how many records do I have in steady rotation around they country? I wont find out till I release the material I'm working with, but I will definitely have an answer for you. Yes, I’m using the eighty sounds , and I'm not getting into details of how I'm going about it, however, I know who you are, your a legend, I seen The Kings & Queens of Freestyle DVD, and I respect your work! And I agree with you of the true harsh reality of the classic sounding freestyle IS impossible to get radio adds, but someone has to change the typical techniques that freestyle has been using but at the same thing maybe an eighties sounds to go along with it. Every genre has its comebacks, and I think radio wont play our songs because it doesn't attract the youngsters. In my opinion the mainstream has the youth sold on artists like Eminem, 50 cents, etc... Freestyle should come out with a video that the youth can relate too, and I'm not talking about Hoochies with G strings, or flashing all that Gold, and bling bling or whatever today's video bring to the table, but something that will spark the youngster eye like a huge car show, breakdancers, DJ's, and pretty models. Something new or something that the youngsters can relate to. Most of the youngsters now are stuck on that thug shit or hard music and personally I'm sick and tired it. I understand most of the freestyle fans are around my age and older, and I hear that it was our time, and now it’s gone, blah blah blah. To keep it alive change is necessary but yet still keep the old school sound alive. If you meant the same thing, My apologies bro, I just want to make a difference in this freestyle game, and I respect lots of producers and artists work, but freestyle needs to step up to the plate and Swing Batta Swing just like K7 did so we can make this music Goodie Goodie just like Lisette did, but keep it freestyle!

I Agre with u bro...my opion is that djs at clubs & radio station wont play our music. how the hell youngster gonna learn to acept our music if djs only spinn the same shit at clubs? .Cmon there alot of new artis with good material out there..Just give them a change Play Our Music..
P.S FREESTYLE SHOULD CONTINUE THE WAY IT START IT 4Example..The TKA..CORO,STEVIE B,SAFIRE,& ETC... & 2DAY ARTIS LIKE MANNY ,W.VALENTIN.FREEZE,NYASIA ,ASHLEY,& ALL THE ARTIS THAT TRYIN TO KEEP IT THE ORIGINAL WAY..OF FREESTYLE ( YO DJ? PLAY OUR MUSIC 4REAL) PEACE 1.....

That's so true! There's still some new stuff that comes out with a hardcore street element, but few and far between. There was a lot of new street freestyle on the Kid Heartbreak album, "Freestyle Amor", but CDs like that don't come out that often.
