David,

I agree with you to a certain degree...BUT the only way for Freestyle to get noticed again is step up the quality of new productions. Now-a-days it seems like everyone that records a new Freestyle song isn't willing to take the extra steps necessary in refining the sound and putting in that touch of quality that the Old School had.

As Legend mentioned earlier in this thread, everyone is so gung-ho about taking their new song to LatinoMix and What If? Productions that they don't take the time to finish what is essentially just a demo.

Another thing - in order for SoundScan to be effective way of guaging how well new Freestyle releases are selling, the music needs to be made available in all major music retail outlets. Right now most artists/labels are selling it on-line, in local "Mom & Pop" stores and out of the trunk of their car - Which is not effective if you want you want numbers from SoundScan.

Freestyle started for me at a club called..
FUNHOUSE

so that's my one word.

how did one word to describe freestyle turn into some of you guys going off on freestyle??

no wonder the radio stations are reluctant to play it. too much controversy for no reason.

It's not that were so critical about freestyle. everyone's critcal about thier type of music. in all genres, there is the same arguements, debatable or not.

radio just doesnt want to play music that is "oudated".

can you name a hip-hop song that is recently released that sounds like it was from 1984?

I CANT.

I 've said this once , and Im sayin it again.---Freestyle is ready to come back with a fury--Its up to us!!!!! It is up to us to make this happen. The fans have to contribute by buying the material , the artists have to contribute by laying some bomb shit , and the lables have to contribute with extra publicity , shows, videos, etc. etc.

Heartbreak: Good One with Funhouse! It later became Hearthrob and little louie vega took freestyle to unbelievable levels with raw dog mixing on three turntables and a reel to reel.

Hey; in no way did i try to turn it into a debate just wrote a supporting statement for timeless and Kenny Guido and Rhoq brought up very interesting opinions as well. I am in full support of Freestyle. I thought that came across in the post.

Rhoq I agree; spend time on it absolutely but the d.j's gotta get bold again and rotate it. Trance and glowsticks do not make it an all night party; LOL. I feel you on your points about spending time making quality product.
Kenny Guido; I happen to like the hip hop from 84 better (beastie boys; krs; ultramagnetic mc's mc shan marley marl) The Neptunes thankfully capture the sound time and time again; listen to their beats; they sound like back in the day when we used to get together with our homeys and bang beats on the car hoods and lunch tables in school. Dr Dre too uses the old school gangsta feel on his tracks.
So it goes back to what rhoq says; spend time on quality production and recatpure what worked along with new ish to allow the genre to reinvent itself.

TIMELESS!!!!!!

Aim, the reason radio doesn't play freestyle has nothing to do with controversy. Hip hop has much more controversy and gets plenty of air play. Not to mention, most radio stations probably aren't even aware (or care) that there is controversy in freestyle.

The reason freestyle doesn't get air play is because the music lacks quality, plain and simple.

And when it has quality it lacks promotion and push that can only come from a big label....

I couldnt agree with you eve more!!!

Freestyle needs like a "Russle Simmons" or a "Dr. Dre" -some one that will get the shit heard , played , and spread around the world like a Wild fire..We have the artists and the Talent , and another thing --- Almost all the stuff made out side of NY never gets heard---Tons of new shit out from Texas and Cali (well not tons) but it stays where it is made and never makes it to the East.
