What is missing in freestyle is the saxaphone. Lot's of big songs (can't remember wich group at the moment) from groups like Expose, Sweet Sensation, Cover Girls, etc. used the saxaphone in some of their songs, but no one plays the sax in freestyle anymore. 🙁 To me, it brought the songs alive and into pop music. Then for some reason, the market flooded with music from sequencers, modules, workstations, etc.--no more saxaphones :crap

I also remember some popular freestyle songs of the 80's used the electric guitar.

Be nice to hear some live :band instruments again in freestyle to bring back that live feeling again :dancepuff

yes!!!

Live instruments are missing.
back then....alot of freestyle groups had live instruments.
especailly when you see the miami scene....erotic exotic, expose (whose original band was erotic exotic), secret society, paris by air, the voice in fashion and so many more...used live instrumnets. Both in production and on stage performances.

the reason alot of people dont use instruments is a mixture that alot dont know how to play themselves and also that it takes money to paythe musician to come into the studio and lay it on the track. With todays technology..many producers feel they can save a buck by skipping that. also on stage..it cost money to have live musicians and bands perform. At this time..alot of artist dont have the funds to do that yet.

Some people will say it had never been done before, but freestyle, like classic disco, did have its instruments. of course those instruments could only take the sound so far..the rest was all technology. nothing wrong with a lil help trying to achieve a new sound either.

groups that had instuments always looked more respected and were recognized more as musicians than those who didnt. alot of that was lost too.

but today there are kids out there with rock and goth bands...and they are mixing things up with electro and other forms of dance and turning a form of rock..back to dance music. sort of the way European bands in the early 80's turned their new wave and punk sound (borrowing alot from 70's U.S. disco) to dance music in a euro-hinrg form.

So hopefully this finds its way back to freestyle or freestyle finds it way to these new peoples hearts.( a new generation of information societies, lol).

All i know is one thing. many people want change. Intruments is one of many changes that people want.

i saw last year..barbara tucker and the whole orchestra band behind her..throwing down some massiv house grooves. freestyle can do the same.It has been done before and at can be done again.

Your right, Live instruments. Saxophones are great.😉

Live instruments in freestyle would be an added bonus
The saxophone a/or the electric guitar is a dated 80's sound though
there's plenty of good freestyle tracks out there
whats needed is $$$$$$$$

Definitely:

Expose' "December"
Secret Society's "You and me we belong together"

Featured the sax!!!

Miami rocked back then!!!! Are Freestyle artist gonna perform during WMC week??? If so, I'm there!! Is FS gonna be played at any club down here??

I NEED TO KNOW

I'M dying to go to a club that will spin deep, deep , deep Miami FS!!!

Like Power Patrol ("be with you tonight", Seventh Heaven, Ero Exo, Sec Soc, Paris by Air, Edmund ("Taught Me"), The Nasty Boyz, and all the others that rocked M.I.A. way back when.

Nah, with the proper production those instruments could be cool. I could get some of the best saxophonists & guitar players in the world at a moments notice for songs............ the problem is lack of funds!!!!!!!

Winter music conference.

Mike....

i dont know what other freestyle parties are being planed for this year during wmc week.

i heard that mickey garcia was trying to put a party together, but i havnet had the chance to call him and ask him yet. however, im sure it will be a world away from this years Taishan ball II (mine).

I dont want to let the phat cat out of the bag..

but as far as performances...D'luna the china doll will perform.she also has a new project(s) that she will perfform for the first time.
SANDEE is down for it again.she also has some new stuff.

I got off the phone with Emanuel from orlando (luna records if im correct). he was one of the first peeps to call me up and send material. so i will hook him up. he actually has a AWSOME new break/trance record that i believe will do well.

I am talking to someone else..cuz maybe Connie might jump on board..yes...."funky lil beat". so hopefully she doese.

but thats all im going to say as far as performers.there will be more..and i will tell more .

the party is going to focus around the early 80's period meets 2003.
there will be a dress code open to those who wish to dress retro, punk, or whatever.

it will reflect todays flavor of Puerto-punk rave.
an 80's them, blended with glam and futuristic euphoria.

You will hear lots of classic electro and freestyle, latin hiphop and miami style freestyle (82-89).classic hi nrg is a must. You will mentally go back in a time warp and think you were standing inthe middle of casanovas or ricks bar. then you will flash to the future with present day electro breaks and nu-freestyle. mixed with progressive house and a medley of under gorund flavors that the miami undergound is all embracing.

this will not be your typical jammin johnny..cavaricci wearing party in 2003.
ther will be ravers and breakers and even drag queens.there willbe goth kids and party kids. there will be old pioneers and new comers. it will get intence and everyone will be talking about it.

we will also progressive and circuite vocal house.
some djs from *69 (again).
vocal trance and dark trance. ebm electro etc.

but thats all im going to say.

im still looking for more artist that want to jump in.

as everyone knows this is for wmc week and alot of these artist are doing this out of the love of the music and their heart. its all aboutthe music..not the pocket book.
I myself lose so much money doing this....but as long as i see a community under one groove and a new generation embracing it..im cool with that.

Anyone who knows me knows i like CONTREVERSY, and i will have that .
cuz everyone is going to talk..and it all hapened at the freestyle party.

i mean..its 2003. we have a new sound, we have a new generation, we have the new fashion..and we have so many non freestyle people experimenting with the electro and freestyle sound. for th first time..its going to all combine under one roof.

but like i said..ill give details later on.

This thread couldn't haven't come at a better time. Last week while at Zachary's here in East Meadow Long Island I had the unique oppurtunity to shoot the breeze with :cynthia herself in the VIP section courtesy of Kenny Guido. Anthony A, KennY and djJiggly did the same. I did mention to her my favorite of all her tracks, that being "EVERYTIME I LOOK AT YOU". Of course the lyrics and her voice have much to do with it. One thing I mentioned to her which she also said she was definitley pleased with and wanted on the song was the saxophone. It adds so much to the song and does show the world that Freestyle is to be reckoned with.

"everytime I look at you I think of the times
the way you used to hold me when i knew you were mine"

with the exception of the slammin sam remixes of thinking about you; my favourite Cynthia has got to be the fully technologized cd cut "save your love for me"; hope they remix that sometime on a fast pitched planet rock beat, a free standing accapella insert or even as a bonus track to a forthcoming single.

i play the saxophone and i dont charge high, anyone wanna hire me for their next freestyle hit? 😛

actually i dont really think saxophones would work for the especially newer freestyle. they're too jazzy which is what freestyle is not. the electric guitars... they were cool tho. 🙂

Cynthia again...

Check out the "TM Shining Mix" of "Like A Star" which is also by Cynthia.

It's a house mix of the track complete with full instrumentation. Piano breaks, horns, bongos, Cynthia adding almost another full verse with her ad-libs, and to top it off she is backed up by a powerful choir! It's bananas! It's almost 12 minutes long. Usually songs that are that long lose your interest at some point but the energy on this particular mix never dies. It's on the 12"/CD5 single and it's most definitely worth the buy.

Also not freestyle but India collaborated with Tito Puente & The Count Basie Orchestra and made an album called "Jazzin'". She does covers of old jazz classics and of course Tito Puente, the man!, doing his thing with the instruments. It's one of my favorite cd's I own.

I agree REEMIXX. I have heard alot of new freestyle groups and singers since joining CF. Iv'e also listened to there songs. Some of the groups and singers who are touted as great are mediocre at best. If you want Freestyle to make it, you have too come out with some quality vocals. Vocals is what makes the music. You can have great sound, but lousy vocals, and that would be enough to turn me away.

Quality like:

Stevie B-- The best all around freestyler
Coro-Excellent voice, very good sound
TKA- The best group
Nyasia- Great voice
Cover Girls- Outstanding chemistry
Expose- hits after hits after hits
Sweet Sensation-I love this group
Johnny O- Passion, great lyrics
George Lamond- Unbelievable vocals
Cynthia- Wow

Just my opinion.
