Sh*t, I remember when mix tapes started,(cd's was just getting popular), It helped tremendously with hiphop and what was the next single to soon be released. I was one who copped RonG, Kid Capri, S & S, Double R, etc, etc...The mixes were sick. That made my ass look for the single aka: 12'' vinyl. Freestyle had mix tapes but few. So whatever helps FS, like K said, helps open doors to young bucks that are still wet behind the ears and sh*t.
word.
M..

Freakiton

That is a phrase that has been use for a long time by boricuas and dominicanos. It was always use to describe the freaks at clubs you know those daring one nighters. When you say esa es una freakitona then you know da deal. If they say ese es un freakiton then the brother is a playa.

But it looks like the phrase is mutating into a new style and maybe its an omen for freestyle music.

HHHMMMM !!!

Who knows !!??!!

LOL

yo K where did you find this cd?
yo this is the kind of sh*t i been looking for....let me know cuz i want to get myself a copy. lets take it to the next level!

well today I heard a reggaeton song with YOUNGBLOODS "damn" and GUNIT in it too, so I guess that's the new thing.

Freestyle is a form of dance music and always has to be added to rap music would be a big mistake. George Lamond and Eminem doesnt go good together no matter how high you are and to be a a recording artist promoting bootleg cds thats even worse. As for the one hour lunch mix that might be the case but remember the Latin Rascals help create the freestyle sound on there one hour a day mixes back in the day. Freestyle needs to evolve but with its own sound and indentity not one borrowed from rap or reggae or any other style of music.

I'm 80% agree with you Freestylepete. 😉
The other 20%: it's that Freestyle (at the beginning) came from Electro Funk (or also named Electro HIP HOP). You see what I mean! LOL 🙂
But I always considered that Freestyle music was a form of Dance music, I still do.

By the way, I don't like reggaeton either so honestly I won't take care about this kind of mix (tapes). Freekton or whatever the name that people want to give it, is an another HUGE stupidity. Freestyle is Freestyle! You can use Latin Hip Hop, Old School Freestyle, New School Freestyle, Electro Dance, etc... but Freekton. C'mon...it's really not serious🙁

But I think this thread goes to the wrong direction. Ka just want to share with CFers something he recently enjoyed. Nothin' more nothin' less. 🙂

well, i love reggeaton, i'd like to hear this freekiton as well.....it sure sounds interesting :biggrin

Hip hop n freestyle..they feed off eachother for years...now you
get a mix of the two in one...the best of two undying elements
in music...just might be the sound waiting to emerge into this biz..
if you like hip hop even a lil bit..love freestyle..im sure it just may
be something worth listening to...hmm maybe a little k7 n missy
hmmmm?..kay come on now, you know ppl! :biggrin..ps u called?
joe was on the line..soree😉

I Agree Kenny...but most of these big names in hip hop
started getting their beats from the streets, the clubs...
where latin dance (freestyle) was happening..except they
took it to another level...and made it as big as it is today..
but for the most part if youve grown up in the hood of your
town..all you ever listen and can relate to is freestyle..and
hip hop or rap..many people evolve in their likes n dislikes of
music.. reggae, salsa..etc..but in the end they always go back
to where it all started..the music on the streets when they were
kids...freestyle..but if we dont let this music evolve as hiphop did..
then thats where you let it starve.. instead of taking it farther
than hip hop....so...now why not turn the tables around?

WELL I KNEW SOMEONE WOULD SAY SOMETHING !
my excitement comes from the fact that this style of music is being reached out by its parternal twin [ hip hop ] and though i agree that freestyle those have a soul and style for a while it has needed a boost to reenergise itself so that that the music industry would want to do anything more than just another compliation .now the mixtape genre is basically something that would help the new freestyle singer and even the old schoolers to reach a audience which needs a music with a soul and history.
we [freestyle ] have been reduced to one big show a year [copa/ beatstock] the 6 am mix [ktu ] or one lunch break or the sunday night three hour show .now that will not fan the flames of growth due to the fact that new blood is not really welcome but with this effort by the most unlikely or in your case unwanted of sources it gives room for the artist such as george lamond or even myself or even new schoolers to be welcome in and thought of as cool by a younger generation and open doors that have been closed to us so now we could reach more main stream dj's and record labels ..

Well I didn't see anyone else post so I felt obligated to voice my opinion. Just because someone made a bootleg mixed cd doesn't prove to me that hip hop has "reached out" to Freestyle. I think hip hop/rap would just use Freestyle like a one night stand. It would get what it wants and then move on to the next sucker. Also if you don't like compilations, then I don't see what would be the difference between or the advantage of a bootleg cd. I'm sorry, but I see a fundamental difference between current mainstram hip hop/rap and Freestyle. I really don't think that current mainstream hip hop/rap fans would become fans of Freestyle through collaborations. Just look at the difference in lyrical content between the genres. And why is it so important to be thought of as cool? I would prefer respect. I can't think of even one rap/hip hop artist who I respect. Freestyle has this long lasting feeling years after a song was "popular." I can't say the same for hip hop/rap. I think Freestyle should evolve and progress, but this is not the right direction. I may have been more receptive back when I could listen to hip hop/rap and not feel like I needed to take a shower to cleanse myself of the filth. Again, I am not against the idea in theory, just against it with the CURRENT state of hip hop/rap. If a Freestyle artist wants to drag themselves into the mire of hip hop/rap, please leave the Freestyle behind. I can already think of the new tracks:

BOOTLEG HIP HOP/FREESTYLE VOL 1:
Jay Z feat. TKA - Three Way Love
Juvenile feat. TKA - Something In My Pants
Eminem feat. TKA - X-Rated Vision
Missy feat. TKA - I Won't Give It Up To You
Kia feat. TKA - Panties May Fall
Lil Jon & Tha Eastside Boyz feat Ludacris & Too Short & TKA - Maria Bia Bia
Lil Kim feat. TKA - Is It Lust

BOOTLEG HIP HOP/FREESTYLE VOL 2:
TPE - Then I Came On You
Charlie Babie - You Take Me Higher (Blunt Mix)
4 Way - Hummer Passion
The S Factor - Hard-on To Get
Susan Santiago - Open Up Your Legs
MG - Makin a Little Noise
Mark Milan - One More Spank

I do not understand why you think my last post was "non informative to the whole view of what hip hop is." Please explain. Thanks.

if freestyle and hiphop are having a one night stand then the most important thing is the lesson you learn at the end of the night and how it matures you .
i could understand your opinion and worry about the mixture of these elements .but as some one who has been here through every school of freestyle i'm willing to listen and welcome the growth .
but i can see how you feel alot of people felt the same way when rock n roll started out and the same whe rap started. we have to face that its our turn to be caught in the generation gap ...
the location where i found the cd was downtown bkyn across the street from juniors cheese cake restuarant

Who knew rock and roll would evolve to different soundz....i.e: Linkin Park.

MixTape, then clubs, then radio...and beyond?

I dont think its about being accepted outside of freestyle, more than its about waking up the dormant freestyle fans, producers, artist and becoming creative again. Making it a today industry as supposed to something thats dead. Only those like you Alex can make it come alive again. But you must have a lust to see the music be relevant again.

Your views on hiphop were hateful and they were biased. There is more to hiphop than filth. Unfortunately mainstream radio forces the subject matter to be run of the mill but there are plenty of great records that leave more to the imagination than the music we get shoved down our throats everyday.
There are love songs (among otehr styles) that are hip hop and I dont think one would ever want to compromise what freestyle is about. The sencerity of its lyrics of love and the hot dancable tracks. If you going to put some rap lyrics, like Tony did in Crash back in the day :dj, you keep the subject matter on topic to the singing. I mean just because you have a certain idea about something great, doesnt mean that idea cant be changed to bring it to classic material. You have to open your minds and ears, and if your are that interested ( in better hip hop) search and I'm sure you will find hip hop that soothes (Kanye West) as well as the trash they play non stop all day.

It seems to me that we've been here before speaking of ways to make this music relevant. I personally, after hanging out at the Copa that night saw how many sleeper fans that are out there. How many who would love to see this music matter again. Now its up to those who have the talent and those who care to step up and give the fans something to get excited about again. I can't wait to see what can become of this underground circuit of freestyle. Cause thats what is it is now. But shine a light of decency and some good ass music in those tunnels, and we might, I say we might just see the re-emergence of this on some level. I think it can happen.

k check this out I was drivin home today from work and had the radio on for once and they were playin "move it like this" by ummmm ....You and it had a bdifferent beat in the back almost a 122 beat with a different bass line sounded dam good i was asking around philly about this kinda mix and go no where yet but i will in time if you get any info on the cd you have please pass it along
