Just curious as to what you guys think of the new single, "Tears".

Thanks,

I think the track is hot...
however.. it's not new...
anyone that purchased her last album got the track..
& the remix that we hear now on the dance stations has been available on the promo only's for a while too...
Still it's an awesome track.. I think it's her best song!
Is there anything NEW coming up for her.. she's been quiet... any appearances.... new songs.. etc.???

I think that you cant beat the pro quality production and the song is simply hot.

hmmmm after last years cd with the wut u did to me single she performed up here over the summer but havent heard much from here since yeah any info is she coming up with something new....i'll see wut i can find out though id like to see her come out with another cd

That's because Freestyle pioneer, Tony Moran produced the song!!!

-----

John - I haven't had the chance to pick up the 12" single yet, but I do plan to buy it. Although I already have the song on the album, I would like to have it on vinyl. I'm disappointed that the single doesn't feature any sort of extended version of the album mix. When I buy the single, I have no plans on listening to the House mixes...

Rhoq - if we had more of this type of production -
I think the freestyle trouble would all be over and
we would see some interest as far as major radio play.

Jack - that's definitely 50% of the solution. The other 50% would be consistancy. How many "quality" Freestyle songs featuring writing and production on par with Tony Moran's work on "TEARS" have been released in the 2 years, 1 month and 3 days since Rockell's INSTANT PLEASURE album was released...Not many, if any at all.

I heard that Tony Moran also wrote some lyrics or something for Celine Dion. Does anybody know if this is true???

John;

I m felling the Rockell Track

I havent heard it on the sation out in the hartford Ct market area , right know they are Pumpin lsako track in heavy heavy rotation It was #2 last nite @ the top 9 @ 9 .....

I saw the CD lying around at the station. I haven't had a chance to listen to it though. I'm waiting for the vinyl to show up as well!

i heard the record already.
didnt really catch my attention, since i already heard it before.
like someone already said, its nothing new.
but i do like it. and i do like rockell as a performer on stage.
saw and talked to her during the party 93.1 summer blast concert in miami and also helped out at her show at ozone in miami.
she can put on a show.(i still have those pictures).

but since i know you are going to be reading this soon, i do have another question.

is there anything else that robbins is planning to put out on the market ,besides rockell, that will be a good break for both the freestyle and breaks/freestyle market.
Im talking about other artist...a new face.

Robbins did alot when they picked up K5 off of kram. "passion" and "red Alert" did alot for both freestyle and the breaks scene back then, as did rockell's material.

I know that later you guys put out jackie cenci "memories", which was a bad ass production with carlos berrios (awsome), but wasnt pushed on radio as much as rockell. then Victoria Angeles -----i wasnt really fond of that record---i heard all that before.

(lol, Rockell and collage "Dream boy dream girl"..no dis..but slice my vains!!)

and finally george lamond and cynthia. yet i didnt see the same push for those projects as rockell still had for herself.

i mean, if Cynthia would of released "save your love For me" instead of "I never said" and had the remixes done by the same people who did Dee Dee's material on "forever" and included some feirce break remixes..that record would of been the bomb.
same with george lamonds material..for example "lately" , i love the carlos berrios remixes...but why give the remix work to Guiseppe D.
everyone i know knows Guisseppe personally, i dont. but what i saw on that record was filler. it wasnt no Ian van Dahl (who is also on Robbins).

So why not push other Freestyle artist with remixes by the people who produce the records that are on the radio now like dee dee, ian van dahl,Sulk, lout Sprecher "omni bus", or kate ryan and all those other artsit also on robbins.
I mean, if everyone is in the same circle and on the labels roster, why not...especially if the trance sound and the freestyle/breaks sound is side by side on both radio and the undergound scene.

We opened up for both dee Dee and ian van dahl in miami and tampa. They perfeormed their songs all in trance, we did trance and freestyel/breaks in our show and had a strong impact as well. And we have no problem flounting Freestyle roots and afiliations with freestyle icons and past legends. and i see that people accept us more, they are more warm. they feel like they see one of their own on stage. We always get invited to the after after after after party...and it has to do alot with bieng afiliated and in the freestyle community. also with the freestyle/breaks mentality.

so maybe it would not be a bad idea to have other artist on robbins, put out freestyle/breakbeatremixes of their comercial trance material.
i would love to hear a carlos berrios remix of a dee dee record or any other trance artist robbins has.
or any remix work by the many talented producers and remix djs on this site.

all i say is think about what i said...i deal with label heads everyday...you guys have the power to make things happen. its all in your hands. And you john, out of alot of people seem to care alot about the freestyle community and genre.
otherwise..you wouldnt be posting on a freestyle site and wondering what the freestyle community thinks.

well, if you ever want to drop a line or need more opinions and 25 cents of my thoughts you can contact me at JONPITO75@hotmail.com
or callme at the recording studio (305) 255-1226

Great point. Breakbeat remixes of Ian Van Dahl, Dee Dee, Kate Ryan Qu-Zar,... etc. are already out there in Canada and Brazil.

Robbins also picked up the Canadian freestyle debut of kathy Phillips "I wish"; great move!

Although Dee Dee, Kate Ryan, Ian Van Dahl are artists that happen to be licensed/distributed on the Robbins label in the U.S.A., they are serviced by other outfits in other countries.

Thanks for the opinions everyone. Just to clear up a couple of things. Yes, the original version has been out on her album for a while but the single has different mixes in addition to the original. There is a breaks remix by DJ Volume and a club mix by DezroK. We tried to give a little different flavor to it. If you haven't heard the breaks version, try to give it a listen. It's very different from the versions you've heard before and it's already getting radio attention in the South East!!!

Rockell has been taking a little time out to spend with her son and is gearing up for a bunch of shows soon. Joe Zangie will have more information on that soon. There are no plans at this time for any new Rockell music. We will see how this song goes and then be ready to do some new stuff with her.

Ashley, thanks for the news about Lasgo. That track is #79 on the Hot 100 and climbing. Not freestyle so I try not to talk about it here too much. 🙂

Rene G, e-mail me at jparker@robbinsent.com.

Jonpito, I'll try to answer your questions.
1)is there anything else that robbins is planning to put out on the market ,besides rockell, that will be a good break for both the freestyle and breaks/freestyle market. Im talking about other artist...a new face.

Answer: We are always on the lookout for new, hit songs and the talent that goes with it. Unfortunately, the freestyle/breaks demos that have come into my office lately aren't of the quality that I would classify as professional. A lot of poor production or have songs that radio wouldn't even bother with. Rockell was signed off of a cassette that came into our office and the song was put out the same way that it came in. No touch ups or anything. I heard that and knew it was something special. That's what I'm looking for.

2)"...i didnt see the same push for those projects as rockell still had for herself."

Answer: For the record, all of our records get the same shot from us. It's up to radio and the dj's to decide if they will play our records or not. But each record gets the same exact attention. It's mailed to the same exact people and prepared to be bought to radio the same exact way. So I'm not sure exactly what you didn't see from us on those other artists projects.

3) "i mean, if Cynthia would of released "save your love For me" instead of "I never said" and had the remixes done by the same people who did Dee Dee's material on "forever" and included some feirce break remixes..that record would of been the bomb.
same with george lamonds material..for example "lately"."

Answer: I kind of feel that this is an unfair comparison. The Cynthia & George lamond records were put out way before the current sounds of Trance hit. And while you might not have been feeling the Giuseppe D mix, it was the one that most clubs across the country played. We were trying something a little different with Cynthia & George and we don't resent a minute of it. George was added to WKTU and the song didn't perform for them. Cynthia wasn't as fortunate with that station and never got the shot. We didn't have the same luxury of 13-14 dance radio stations to get things started like we do today. So it was a different game then.

4)"So why not push other Freestyle artist with remixes by the people who produce the records that are on the radio now like dee dee, ian van dahl,Sulk, lout Sprecher "omni bus", or kate ryan and all those other artsit also on robbins."

Answer: We have kicked around that idea for future records with Rockell being a prime candidate when we are ready to do some new tracks. With Rockell we wanted DezroK and then I wanted a breaks mix. I'm very happy with the results.

5) you guys have the power to make things happen. its all in your hands. And you john, out of alot of people seem to care alot about the freestyle community and genre.

Answer: Thanks but I think you give us too much credit. We just put out the best records that we hear and think will have a shot in the current market. For the record, I've signed Lasgo, Ian Van Dahl, Dee Dee and a lot of the other records that you've mentioned. And they all have that something special that the old freestyle records did. I just wish that the Freestyle artists and producers would go back to quality productions and strong vocal & musical hooks. Without that, today, no song has a chance of being a hit. You have to be as good as the Nelly or Madonna or (insert your favorite pop artist here) records to get any attention. I think that Kathy Phillips had that with her record and nobody in the US would touch that song. In Canada, it's become an IBM commercial and she's had a lot of success. I think we have a long way to go before we have success in freestyle again but we'll always be willing to put out a song that we feel is a quality one. As, I hope, everyone knows if you are an artist or producer just send me your tracks or set up a meeting with me and I'll listen.

Hopefully, I've answered some of your questions or comments. If not let me know which ones I missed. 🙂

Just for the record...I've been charting "I Wish" for several weeks now. It's a top 25 chart that I send out weekly to the record stores, other dj's, record labels and trade magazines.

im glad that song was remixed! cant wait to hear them! i was never too found of the original production, it's just to dated for radio i honestly feel. dezrock has bene doin sum really hot remixes especially for Beyonce Knowles' "Work it Out" OFF THA HOOK!!!!!!!! robbins knows wut they are doin honestly and they are expanding and im glad to see that they just didnt focus on just FREESTYLE!!!

(im here with a big grin).

Thanks John for writing back and answering all those questions.

Like i said, i love rockell as a performer and when i meant that i heard the record, i never said i did not like it. To me its there, cuz i have come to a point to become extremely selective and more demanding out of the records that come out. it is alot better than anything else that is out there now and is not ashamed to have ties with the freestyle scene.

True, dee dee and everyone else was after the george lamond and cynthia projects and yes it isnt fair to make that comparison. but i guess what i tried to say was maybe the trance of that time when those records came out. there was trance on the radio around that time and heavy heavy here in miami. (in miami, trance and breaks has always been side by side and been around since the early 90's).
Planet soul and all the other freestyle/breaks records that came from miami all had trance sides....even the more freestyle driven records like the "dont Stop the Rock" remixes.

I dont know, i just feel that if it would of been done with those george lamond and cynthia records maybe something diferent would of resulted. then again, i dont know if part of the backlash also had to do with the stereotype that george and cindy have as freestyle artist or as "traditional" artist did not meet the new cutting edge look that the freestyle scene was exposed to at that time).

Back to the miami freestyle/break/trance labels: the labels that put out most of these records did not have the marketing, promotion or distribution power labels like robbins, strictly etc had. therefore alot of those records and labels went overlooked.

(Oh, and on the Guissepe d topic.. i didnt say it wasnt good. i said it sounded like filler, meaning comparing it to works next to thunderpuss, victor calderone and other house and progressive house productions of that time.)im sure it worked on many dancefloors, as did "sandra sez".

but anyway, when i did tell you that the lebels have the power. yes, radio has alot to do with the success of a record and the djs have alot to do with a records success. But being in the industry..
we all know how radio really works.

i mean in my case and the case of many other artist and people from other labels..how many times have we asked the program director himself , once we find out we were pulled or are not getting played at a ceartain station...corner him down and ask for the real truth and they tell you "some one from your labels and companies did not pay the "promoters". So who has the power to pay the promoters...the labels. who has the power to make the posters and so many promotional adds, flyers etc....the labels.
thats what i meant more by labels having the power and having alot in their hands.

(but i cant get into this topic, cuz its not something to talk about or get further into).

eitherway..let me stop here..cuz then im going to open a can of worms.

All i can say is that we have done the oposite and still have a record that is aging and is still in demand by club crowds and now they are begging for remixes. No ones paying no promoter or publicist or anything...I have a hard time alone getting the home label to put an add for us on this site.

maybe in january ,when the new release takes place..we will promote really heavy. but thats up to the label.they have that power.

but so far, without all that, we are doing well.

on another note, i did lmao, when you mentioned about people sending poor production and "un-pro" material. I get that too. i also get it when we are on the road performing some where and they start throwing it at you "look, they sing. hook em up!!".
look at the package and artist and they look really tacky. listen to the cd..and the ears start bleeding, lol".
And you know that you wont dare show it to a pr or md.(maybe as a joke).
but thats someones dream, so you kinda try to say nice things. well at least i do..try really really really hard.

i think its really cool that you sit up here and tell people what you think and i know that alot of them are reading and comprehending about production quality and what they need to get together to become more...to make it.

( i know many producers, that cant afford the latest in studio equipment. times are slow for freestyle producers and remixers. so i know they try their best. i give em props for that. for trying and not giving up.).

its also cool to see you taking in material from people and at least listening to it.

i however cant send you anything...Sony, next step. and jellybean will be on my ass like crazy.ill have a shoe print on my face.
we have like a new single coming out, thats all i can say.

there are other projects , but targeting groovalicious, ffrr, ministry of sound, nervouse etc. and yes freestyle will not be left out.

well, thats it. i dont mean to bust chops or anything.
like i said, im very demanding in many things, especially when it comes to music. This is all positive, so i dont want nobody thinking anything negative.
Questions are good. and its also good to listen to others views and opinions.

see i like this.
not so fond of the "whats your favorite freestyule song". i cant spend time answering those post. (judy Torres "come Into my Arms" & "let Your Body go" leather n lace).

well thank you and lets leave it as that.
