DJ Shalomar & OD Blaze use to light up the turntables in the late 90s at Emerald City in Ft. Lauderdale. I hope that whoever spins at the club in July can take it back the way these to mixers did. From "Forever Amor" to "Boy I've been told" to "Stand by your lover" I really hope that night a mixer goes deep into the crates to play those songs we haven't heard in years...........
Which brings me to a poll!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHO DO YOU THINK SHOULD SPIN AT THE CLUB IN JULY FOR SAL'S CONCERT??
BEAR IN MIND, HE OR SHE SHOULD HAVE A MIAMI CONNECTION.....
MY PICK IS............A CROSS BETWEEN DJ DEF (POWER) & SHALOMAR & Jorge Ojeda
By the way, was anyone there for the Stevie B concert at Club Boca (Now Radius) a few years back?? I think it was in '98 or 99. Or evern at Emerald City?
I know I wasn't the only one who drove up from Miami!!! Man I have stories about those concerts!!!
dj shalomar is a really cool dj and nice person.
on top of that he did help out alot with the d'luna show we did with power 96 and eddie mix at radius last year.
dj def is awsome and suported us and many other artist at power 96 ,along side laz, eddie mix and Zog.
but jorge ojeda is actually a pioneer. he was the first freestyle dj in maimi on rythm 98 before hot 105 was established.
he rocked 1235,casa novas and other clubs along side Chief raymond hernandez (who is heard now on salsa 98) and ciro llerena.
Jorge ojeda is the last and youngest of the old school miami dj and producers along the lines of Goerge "the professor" alvarado, Luis Martinez, danny "dj fluid" canary , mohamed moretta etc and others.
he was the last person to produce a teazII pleaz record and do work for eddie mix's cds (bass comps).
for the same reason i have teamed up again jorge for the debut of the new FM.c website and he is part of the new maimi aliance of djs. producers, artist, and industry.
i have plans with jorge that are on the DL, in the meantime he is in the studio also with D'luna (china doll), (who after her working with lewis martinee and jellybean will now also be working with another Miami pioneer Gussepe d at the same time working with Jorge on all types of electro bass, nu freestyle, dark trance and progressive house).
jorge will soon be working onhis album of electro break tracs, as he is one of few electro funk djs in miami that still can mix, scratch and cut electro funk, freestyle and electro bass as it was done back in the day. add in todays technology and new sounds and ...well, may i not say too much. youl just have to wait and see.
remeber he also was known to produce material for los sucios and his own production company sound of destiny........."its all about you", a miami classic is another project he was known for.
you will see jorge ojednd hear more of him as teh summer gets on its way.
Here's my take on Jorge Ojeda. My girlfriend & I are at Club Krystal last summer for FS concert with Coro, FFWD Cruz, Cynthia & Johnny O. It's early, the crowd is decent & Ojeda is cranking out track after track. My girlfriend has a revelation--she wants to hear the first FS song I ever dedicated to her... I approach Jorge, who looks so focused in his mix, you could have sworn the guy was splitting the atom. "Jorge, I'm a big fan & I visit your website a lot!!! Can you hook up "It must be you" by the LR for my girlfriend???" I offer him a tip but he refuses, then he gives this look, implying that my money's no good tonight; reminding me the best things in life are free. Moments later, that slammin beat followed by those chords come on!!!! Well needless to say, when those lyrics dropped "I can feel my heartbeat thumping when I'm next to you..." My girl just melted.....and it was only 10:30pm!!!!
My point is Jorge Ojeda's a pimp on the 1s & 2s! There aint a nicer guy in the scene! Just log on to his site & it's obvious how much he loves this music.
Well, that's the deal with Ojeda, he is da sh#t!!!!!
I have to say, the concerts at St. Croix on Salsa Sundays were off da hook too. Jorge Alvarado & Gregorio would alternate on these nights as well as Jammin Johnny.
But the mother of all shows was Stevie B at Club Boca!!!! I drove one damn hour to that show--I would have driven three!!!
I have never seen a club bounce the way Boca did back in '99!! Shalomar tore it up on the wheels!! I had never seen so many good looking, classy chicks dance on bars & sofas--ever!!! Was anyone there?? I think there must have been 700 heads that night. That was a night to remember!!! If I recall, Power was broadcasting live that night.
I also liked the couple concerts at Aqua Lounge also in Boca, small crowds, but very intimate. I can have a good time in a club with 50 so long as there's FS...This was the case when Felix Sama booked Noel on a Friday night at Rick's Bar a year or so ago. 50 peeps!!! That's all there was. No matter. Even Noel said, "Who needs 50 million people?"
Freestyle in Miami is still alive and well people...if not on the radio, it's in us, the true freestyle fans... we remember the days of Ricks Bar, Club Napenthas, City Limits, Friday evenings at Six Flags Atlantis, Club 1235, ETC.... It will never die as long as WE are still here. We all have the tapes of old '87 and '88 Hot 105 Mixes and then of course who can forget the Power Mixes on Power 96. Before they went HIP HOP Yuck!!! The true fans in Miami and S Fla will never let it die...If not on the radio, then in our CD players, and now thanks to Kings and Queens in our DVD players as well. I WILL NEVER LET IT DIE.... IT IS IN ME Hell it is ME!
Lets keep it that way.... IT WILL NEVER DIE...
