Does "rock music" sound like it did in the eighties, no. Neither does hip hop or any other genre of music. Why do we want a genre of music that never changes. Freestyle music, to me, has evolved into artist like Angelina.

That's not a fair comparison. "Rock" is a genre of music. "Freestyle" is a sub-genre of Dance music. As a sub-genre, you can only change it so much before it ceases to be freestyle any longer.

I like the program, but Information Society never struck me as a Freestyle group, but they are included in the Tommy Boy "Freestyle Greatest Beats" which was compiled by Joey Gardner...who does know his Freestyle...

By including the track "Running" on his comp, Joey Gardner is implying that the song is freestyle, but that doesn't mean he considers the group freestyle.

Ahhh, well said. That's the way I felt about the Angelina tracks, that they went beyond freestyle... BUT...I can see the tracks being classified as freestyle.

Ok, did anyone see the episode last night? 1 of the 4 members backed out at the last minute and they did not perform!! It was really disappointing! By the way, I never knew there was a girl in the group.

i saw it, it's always so intresting to hear the "behind the scenes" stories. It came as a shock to hear about her herion addiction. It suck the kirk didnt show up , but his heart wasnt into it.

WOW! I was mad that they didn't perform, but it was also very clear that Kurt didn't take Info as a pos move in his life. He wanted to put that behind him, and he did. I also think that he could have cleared the air if he showed up, but... Who knows?

IT FIGURES THE LEAD SINGER OF INFO SOCIETY DIDNT SHOW UP, THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT HAPPENED ON "BANDS REUNITED". THE FIRST TIME THERE WAS A GROUP THAT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH FREESTYLE AND THEY DIDNT GET TO PERFORM... THATS FREESTYLES LUCK FOR YOU.

i was mad dissapointed i wanted to see a performance. but all the same i was glad they got recognition!! =)

Here's a tidbit...Jim Cassidy of Information Society was the first group member tracked down...during his segment he spoke about how the group became huge in Latin America and he credits Latinos with putting them on the map and out of the Minnesota scene. He chuckled as he recalled four white guys going into Club and arenas performing...a small, yet important victory for us...

Franky Goes To Hollywood was first.....

Going back to the VH1 Bands Re-united. Actually, Franky Goes to Hollywood's singer was the first one that I saw that did not show up.

This episode with Info Society was really good. Too bad about the end. What a dumb ass Kurt was for backing out.

I think he was a freakin' coward, and messed up what could've been a great last performance for those guys.

Too bad....

Are you serious?

Ok, I know there have been arguments here as to whether or not Information Society is freestyle or not, but I wanted to let all of you know that they will be featured on VH1's Bands Reunited this Wednesday night at 10 PM. Tonight's episode features Scandal and tomorrow is Vixen.

Also, starting Nov. 15 at 10 PM, VH1 is doing a special called Retrosexual: The 80s. Lisa Lisa will be one of the commentators.

Hey Freestyle gal I saw your post and it intrigued me. You mentioned there being arguements about Information Society being Freestyle. I was wondering if you had come across anyone that did not thimk they were freestyle because I have never known someone who knows of them to think of them as anything but freestyle. it is kind of wierd to me so I just had to reply to it. Me peronally, I think they are one of the first frestyle groups out there they have been out with running since 82 and that is undeniably a freestyle song. i mean the people that are disputing that fact have to think about it like this even Clear Touch used thier beat for one of thier versions of "Fallen Angel". Does anybody argue Clear Touch's Status as freestyle songs. I don't know but alot of people out there really have twisted what freestyle songs really are. I mean they are calling artists like jocelyn enriquez and other HOUSE artist freestyle singer. to me that is just wack Jocelyn is not a freestlye singer. Nothing against Jocelyn But she wasn't freestyle and people cal her a freestyle singer and not INFORMATION SOCIETY. You have made a good call on posting that info on club freestyle cuz, reagrdless of what they have went to become afterwards they were definitely a freestyle group at the beginning, And a damn good Freestyle group too. tahnx for sharing.

You make some good points Hec but there are a lot of people who don't consider Info Soc to be a freestyle group (not the least of which is Info Soc themselves!)

Personally, I don't consider them freestyle. They had 1 freestyle song ("Running"), but they were not a freestyle group. They were not really part of the "freestyle culture" of the time (in the way they dressed, acted, or looked).

WHAT ABOUT "THINK" FROM 1990?.. THAT WAS A FREESTYLE TRACK

HECFROMPAIN,
Info Society was not trying to be a Freestyle band, well at least Kurt didn't want it that way. Some of their songs were stright up Freestyle because the sound they were using happend to be already in the "freestyle" world. Kurt did not like where their music was going and this became a problem for the group because Rob was doing the writting. I think this is one of the reasons why Kurt didn't show up to reunite.
I don't understand how someone (Kurt) could be in a band and not love or recognize
that the fans loved their music and they should perform for us. ???? Just a thought!

If ya'll think Information Society's "Running" & "Walking Away" qualify for freestyle, do y'all think that Pet Shop Boys "Domino Dancing" & New Order "True Faith (Pet Shop Boys remix)" qualify too. I've always considered these tracks as more of an 80's industrial new wave...that would work well in a freestyle mix...very well in a freestyle mix.

These debates seem to come up all the time and there is always a wide range of opinions. Some people have a very wide definition of freestyle, including borderline artists like Taylor Dayne, Debbie Gibson, Samantha Fox, etc. (I've even seen some people claim The Human League as freestyle! :rolleyes)

And some people have a very narrow definition of freestyle (I've even seen some people dispute that Shannon is a freestyle artist!)

That's whats great about perspective; no 2 perspectives are the same.

I can understand Taylor Dayne with "Tell It To My Heart" but Debbie Gibson, Samantha Fox, & The Human League? Nah. Next thing we'll be hearing is that Depeche Mode was Freestyle. Lol.

Information Society was a New Wave group that had a few songs that fall into the category of Freestyle.

"Running" came out in 1985 - not 1982. Just because Clear Touch sampled the beat doesn't mean that makes Information Society a Freestyle group. That's like me saying just because your (Pain) cover of Annie Lennox's (Eurythmics) "Here Comes The Rain Again" is a Euro-House song, that now makes Pain a house group.

There have been plenty of Hip-Hop breaks sampled and looped on a countless number of Freestyle songs - does that now make those Hip-Hop producers and artists Freestyle just because their music was sampled on a Freestyle track? Nope.

Willie Valentin sampled "Take Me To The Mardi Gras" by Bob James (a Jazz artist) on "One True Love Affair". Before that, Run-DMC made that sample famous on their track "Peter Piper" - does that now make Bob James a Freestyle artist? Nope.

The list can go on and on.

Jocelyn Enriquez used to be a Freestyle artist before going house. Her first album (LOVELY, 1994) contained the Freestyle songs "Make This Last Forver", I"ve Been Thinking About You", "I Feel For You" and "Only". In addition to that - the 12" single for "Big Love" (A house track from that album) saw a Freestyle remix.
