I know people say sexuality shouldn't matter, it's all about the music, who cares and whatever, that's fine. If the topic doesn't interest you, move on.
I do think it's important for young people who might be questioning their identity and sexuality, to find role models and someone they can identify with so they won't feel so alone and isolated. It's especially helpful for kids who are made targets of ridicule and harrassment in school to find people who may have gone thru the same things they are going thru and say "it's okay to be who you are." When they see someone they idolize say "this is who I am," that young person hopefully realizes they're not so different.
If you're straight, think for a moment if the whole world was gay and you thought you might be the only person with those feelings and you were made fun of for being different. Suddenly the whole world becomes a huge obstacle against you. If you read in truth or rumor that a celebrity you idolize came out and said they they're differnt too, all at once you find hope.
I love Tony's and other freestyle artists music because it's great material. Their sexuality is second. It doesn't matter to me but If I were a troubled kid, knowing there's someone else there who's might be a little similar to me, would change everything.
