No need to make it personal. You've never met me, you know nothing about me, so therefore you have no reason whatsoever to lay claim to knowledge about my motivations for doing anything I do. "My ego"...stick out of my ass...all this because I don't play new school underground songs. OK.
 
I wasnt going to post originally but I cant believe how out of control this post got. I just have to say that I am grateful for any freestyle that I hear on the radio. Its better that not hearing any freestyle at all! Yes, there are some songs that I would like to hear more often, but I take what I can get and I as you can see from James Anthony's play list, he does put some rare classics into his mix. Listen, I remember when Johnny Budz used to do the mix on Sunday nights and I loved the fact that he played some new school and rare classics. Unfortunately, it didnt work for KTU and it was dropped. Obviously, the station has to do what works for them, whether we like it or not. Judy Torres and James Anthony do a great job on Sunday nights. If you dont like it that's your choice. But I know there are a lot of freestyle fans out there who do, myself included. And I do know a lot of freestyle...not just the songs that are the standards. There is no need for a personal attack on anyone. Everyone has to do whats best for them. Keep up the good work James!

Ok I wasn't going to say it, but hear I go. I don't listen to radio because it's not how it used to be. House Music was the shit, Dance was the shit, and Club Music aka Latin Hiphop aka Freestyle was hot, even Pop songs were good. Old school rap was original and everybody on the radio had their generation. Hot 97 Play nothing but dance, Z100 & WPLJ play nothing but Rock and Pop, 98 Kiss and WBLS play nothing but R&B & Rap aka HipHop. Every style was unique and different. Which you enjoy listen to the different Formats.
Now a days is who plays what on the radio come on now, I was Shock to hear "Gasolina" by Daddy yankee on Z100 I was like what the F!!!
Music doesn't feel the same is very rare you have songs that actually mean something.
And If KTU and Mix will not play new music by either the Legends like Safire, George Lamond, TKA, Cynthia, Nyasia, Coro, Ect. or New artists like Nu Image, Willie Val, Artie & Legit, or Myself (Even though none of us are Newschool and have been in the league almost as much as the Legends) then lets hear stuff from artists that are consider Underground, like Peter Fontaine, Reinald-o, Ian Yce, Leo, MKG, Wickett, ect.
Or songs by legends that haven't hit the radio in a long time.
People don't do music like they used to, come on we haven't had a real Boy Band Like Menudo (I can't believe I just named them), New Edition, and New Kids on the block. We haven't heard a good house track like Earth People, Try Yazz, Stomp, Do it to the Crowd, My House, ect. We have got a real good Rapper like Run DMC, Eric B and Rakim, KRS One, Public Enemy, ect.
We talk about how music Evolve and yet people are still worrying about the past, and taking the style from the past. Yeah we love our 70's, 80's and some 90's, but it's time to let it go and move on. As for the New school (Since we get label instead of just artists) We are not trying to be the next Marc Anthony, The next George Lamond, The Nyasia, Judy Torres, Cynthia, Corina, TKA, Johnny O. We are all trying to be accepted for the artists that we are and we ain't here to replace, we are here to be treated equal, respected, and just be heard.
If the Mainstrean won't play us, then let's be happy we have people like Harv Roman, Paradise, CPR, Benny & Bryan, Porky, Larry V, Kazzeo, Delicious D, and all the Street DJ's who still believe in our music and support us and won't stop playing us.
James you keep doing your thing and you are right We can't pleaze everybody. Say was up to Johnny B for me. And Naya thank you sweetie I love your stuff too since day 1.

Don't know that I should be posting here cuz I don't live in NY but anyways...

I stopped listening to mainstream radio about 2 yrs ago...the stuff they play is awful! BLAH!!!!!!

Every now and then I'll flip on the classic rock station if that's what I'm in the mood for but otherwise...it's ALL CD'S!!!!!!!

(Wonders now if this has any bearing on the matter at hand! :lol)
 
Ultimix should have relaized that the one think we ask is to repect other and to
post with respect. You dont tell another member to shove someting up his or her
ass. Thats not polite (well unless the member wants somthing up in there)

I bet my freestyle collection you don't even have any idea who they are to begin with. I've seen your playlists before on this website and there are at least over a dozen songs that you have not featured on that list that I have asked for. Remember you have only 300+ songs.

May also add that you have NOT made one comment to prove me wrong that you no knowing about new school, 'cause obviously you don't. Personally, I don't know about everyone else but I wouldn't want someone mixing some new school music when that person knows nothing about the new sound.

And let me state right now that I'm not personally attacking (cursing, insulting, dissing, etc) anyone. I am free to make my opinions and comments heard. I just don't like it when someone makes false claims saying they played certain old school songs when their playlist speaks for itself. If James Anthony and KTU want to stick to their old school format, then so be it. You obviously made your point that you can't break the rules but that doesn't mean you can't bend them a little.

it is your duty James to please ALL your listeners. Just because 99% of your listeners want the same songs over and over again it doesn't mean that 1% is meaningless. Like I said before you can be replaced, especially if people start to get tired of your mixes (club edits, beats vs beats, etc) or worst comes to happen people start to write to KTU and let those know how they really feel.

Also in regard to your EGO, James you have made it very clear you could care less about your 1 hour mixshow playing new school or not ... you said it yourself you got 2.2 Million listeners so please don't come making it seem as if you don't have a little ego problem.

And Alex of LN, you made a very good point ... if James doesn't want to stand up for new school or at least want to please the %1 of listeners who believe new school should be given a chance, then so be it ... at least we got the other DJs (like LARRY VEE!!!!!) to turn to who actually feel the same way we do.

I don't listen to radio to begin with ... I already got 2000+ freestyle collection, but that doesn't mean I want stand up for those who make good points. And if we did a vote (which we should) I bet many people would agree me

See if Radio (Mainstream) plays freestyle even rare underground stuff they should DIG! I mean come on, I haven't heard "How could You Hurt me" by Onne Wai, or "I never Knew" by Robbie, or "Dreams" by Lia Marquis, ect. And the Legends have new songs and yet they never play their new stuff, so how are we going to progress if we can't even let the Oldschooler perform their new stuff. I have seen many artists perform and their is only a few that will go up and perform new stuff; Coro, Cynthia, & More, Tonasia, and Nyasia. I don't see no other artists performing new songs. When they preview Safire "Eyes of a strager" & the duet with Cynthia "Can you stand the rain". it was play what about a day and was never played again, how about TKA's "When will I C U Again" play one day and Puff*** Gone, They never played Lately by George, Do Unto Me or Tell me Why by Coro, even When K7 came out with his solo stuff they never "I'll Make You Feel So Good" or "Body Rock". So that tells you that we will never get the respect that we deserve.
There shouldn't be any attacks on the Dj's because they don't have the Power to do anything or Do they? Ain't the reason people listen to music is because the Dj's. But alot again Can't do it, because the higher ups.
We should again look for those College stations that actually give us a moment and listen to our music and what we have to say.
 
I am a CD listener myself since I do get bored w/ radio. Have to say tho, do enjoy listening to whatever freestyle gets played on the radio when I do tune in.. my hubby (REBER) has made me a ton of freestyle CD's so when its not on the radio, its still playin on my CD player!!

Ummmmmmmm......no. It is James' duty to perform the job that KTU asks him to do. There is no business that can claim a 100% customer satistfaction rate. Not possible. Even GOD can't please 100% of the people. How can you expect that of James?

As someone who KNOWS James Anthony personally from BEFORE he was on KTU, I can say he has no ego problem.

James has to play what the station wants him to play. KTU barely gives new song by established artists a chance. They passed on new songs by Coro, Lisette Melendez, TKA, Safire, Nyasia, Cynthia, and others. If they don't want it on their station, they are not gonna let him play it. If they won't give exposure to those artists, why would they give Latin Nation, Ashley, Manny, or other new schoolers a chance?

Been there and done that. We've had more than one thread here on cf where people who post, are asked if they like old school or new school, or if they would rather hear old school, or new school. Old school wins out every time.

I agree that new school should be given a chance. I go to new school shows, and have a whole selection of new school on my internet feed. If KTU were my station, I'd be featuring new school. Unfortunatley, It's not.

Nu Image is new? Didn't they have some song called "Tears In My Eyes" back in the late 90s? One of my all time favorite songs, BTW.

Anyways why is everyone bashing the guy's playlist. He's got bosses and shit who care about ratings. The "general public" wont listen to most of the tracks listed above. C'mon the average joe or average josette will turn the dial on Daize's "You & Me"(Though I used to love that song, even had the whole CD before) Personally I don't listen to radio as much, just CDs. Though I do plan on getting Sirius this year sometime. You only hear that stuff on the college stations, commercial radio wont play it. Eh, just my 2 cents, bye.

Hey Puerto Rican 2 Pac, I did say we are consider New, if you read carefully it sez

Tears In My Eyes has been out since I believe 91-92 under the original name of the group Latin Image. Which by the way The Original Demo it's the best out of all their remixes**Sorry tony, but thats my Fave**. I debuted in the scene about 89, Artie I believe around 88 or so, as well as for Willie Valentin, and Legit well we all know he came from the group FFWD with Nelson Cruz. So non of the artist I mention above are new, yet they still label us that way which it really does matter we are artists.

Well I'm not going to sit here wondering why KTU doesn't play Nu Image, I rather be in the studio creating a track that could have the potential to be played on KTU.
Although we do have a new Nu Image track "INDISDCRETION" which I do belive would fit The Sunday night Freestyle Free for all program. I would gladly get it out to James at his request if he is at all interested.
Even though it is not a classic and it is "NEW" I do belive the quality and sound of the track would definately fit the Sunday Night Mix format.

James keep rockin, as I have always said and keep bringing us those great mixes.\
ps. Naya, thank you for feeling our music, now lets do the Remix on that slammin Ed Ramos track.

just keep doing what your doing cause when the radio station doent get there money from the sponsors the show will die and so will freestyle music on mainstream radio.we all should enjoy that freestyle is on the radio and encourage james not attack him for holding it down the best way he can remember he is not the only one there making the playlist decisions.this is the only station playing freestyle on the radio in new york so if it gets canned then break out those bad boy joe cds youll need them
 
I really shouldn't comment on this because I've been a bad girl (only caught the show twice in the last.... (never mind)) :biggrin

But I am so grateful it's there. Just knowing it's there is good enough for me. (I'm sleeping way before the show starts and that's the only reason I haven't been listening). But now that summer is here.... IT'S ON.

I hate to say it but with all these satelite radios coming out, the DJ's are going to start losing their jobs (not directed to you James).

I'm talking about this top 40 sh*t they have going on. ENOUGH ALREADY. Hearing the same song OVER AND OVER s*cks and that's why I haven't listened to the radio in a while. And when I do listen.... it's only because I'm waiting to hear a certain song like Alicia Keyes' song Karma and I bet that's one of the reasons they're getting any ratings because I'm sure other people are doing the same thing. Listening to sh*t just to hear a certain song play.

As for the old school stuff playing and not the new stuff, I'm a FREESTYLE lover and I don't know what's new (unless I come here). So hearing a new song at least once a weekend would be great! (but I know, it's out of your control)

Eitherway, I can't wait to listen again..... THANK GOD FOR THE SUMMER.

All I know is that I am always grateful for ANY Freestyle that I hear on the radio! What if KTU stopped playing freestyle completely?? Then people would really be complaining. It may not be fair, but sometimes we have to take what we can get.
