This Friday at Club Atlantis in Staten Island, NY...OLD SCHOOL FRIDAYS...this Friday Freestyle Legend GEORGE LAMOND will be performing all his hits and DJ Johnny Budz will be playing all your favorite freestyle, old school house and new dance hits.

Once again, I am under alot of pressure from a club owner. Although Fridays have been going 'pretty well', they haven't been what we expected. Freestyle fans are always complaining there never is a freestyle club that plays freestyle. Within the past few months, I've busted my ass getting TWO clubs that will allow me to play it. We know Poor Billys didn't succeed, and now I need your support to help take this "Freestyle Fridays" at Atlantis to the next level ... before the owner decides to do away with it. I finally found an owner/club that is willing to spend money and have a 'freestyle night' with freestyle acts every week. Its now in the hands of the 'freestyle fans'. The same fans that always ask how they can bring back freestyle and ask why freestyle isn't what it used to be.

Believe me, if a night like this blows up, it could do wonders for the freestyle industry. It could really create a HUGE BUZZ for freestyle. Back in the 80's freestyle was born in the clubs. The majority of the dance songs you hear on the radio today all started at the clubs. I'm giving you fans the oppurtunity to boost freestyle back up, but i'm not getting the support it takes.

I'm giving you Cynthia, Coro, Judy Torres, George Lamond, Tonasia, TKA !! The owner pays ALOT of money per week paying these artist, paying me, and paying for Radio adds. Unless the night starts getting PACKED bigtime, unfortunately he won't continue with this night and he'll go back to playing the usual progressive house. So.....WAAASSSZUPPPP !? HELP ME OUT PEOPLE !! 🙂

Big love to all the peeps that have been coming out to Atlantis. Its not like the night is 'dead'. Its been going pretty good. Its just gotta start getting even better..very quickly !

I couldnt agree with you more on this one. All everyone does is complain that no club plays freestyle, and now here it is in front of everyones face. Atlantis is a great venue. I'm friendly with Vito, and all I do when I talk to him is tell him how great Freestyle Fridays are and what a great idea it is. This is everyone's chance to come out and support freestyle, and drink/socialize/dance/have a great time in the process. This is without a doubt the only REAL freestyle party going on in the NYC area, so lets blow it up!!!!!!
 
perhaps some people feel that staten island is to much trouble to get to -

if u could work on a place in manhattan, u may have better luck.

Hey Sandman. I've spun freestyle in NYC recently also. Same deal.

Staten Island really isn't that far from NYC, Brooklyn, Queens or NJ. I travel 1 hour one way to get there. I'm not telling anyone how far to travel, plus I understand that some people just don't like clubs. I'm sure there will always be excuses. For instance if I dj'd in NYC, people will be unhappy with the price of parking and admission. Plus, I just got an email today from someone who wanted to know why I don't spin freestyle in Central NJ, even though I was there for 2 months back in March/April and it didn't work..lol..Its just how it is. Its cool. The meaning of my post wasn't to diss the fans. I'm just kinda surprised its not as crowded as I expected and that Freestyle Fridays at Atlantis won't be going on all summer if it doesn't get more packed. Plus it'll more than likely be my last freestyle themed club i'd work at. I can be spinning progressive house down the NJ Shore for more money and bigger crowds. But I'd rather do Freestyle because its what i thought the people wanted. Hopefully it'll start getting really packed
 
yo budz i was there memorial day weekend. it was off the hook. i loved the old school house you were playing. bang bang bang your bango ! plus you played all the freestyle jams. i thought the night was pretty crowded. but freestyle fans will always complain and cry but when its time to step up to the plate, they sit home and do nothing. same with buying the music. how many actually buy the music. we're in the little freestyle world all by ourselves. if we dont support it nobody will. i will definitely be there this week with a shit load of my lady friends. i got your back kid

Get yourselves to the club. Let yourselves be seen and spend some bucks on the admission and drink.

When you get there, DANCE. Johhny can't justify playing freestyle if no one dances to it. When I was there, the floor emptied for the freestyle but packed for the reggae and house/rap. The only ones dancing to the freestyle was me and the Philly fans. All the other people stood by the bar and bobbed their heads to the music.

Unless you have something more important, make the trip to the shows! I've driven an hour or more (each) to Backdrafts, DNA, Poor Billys, and now Atlantis. The Philly fans have been doing better with attandence than us "locals" (Way to go guys! Continue being so dedicated!) No matter where the show is, it's gonna be a trip for someone. Don't complain, just do it.

Let's get working on it. The ball is in our court now, and we can make this a success.

why isn't the sa-fire show in san jose advertised in the lobby? i don't think wild would mind - usually all that is advertised is stuff from the ny area n canda

There are only 2 reasons why I have not been representing at Atlantis.

1) Because I have no car & there is no easy way to get there via public transportation

2) My friends that would go with me don't drink and drive & well see #1

If anyone knows a way to get there via mass transit then I am there. Until then, too far for my carless self 🙁
 
I will try my best to go this week. But I am positively, absolutely, definitely going when TKA will be there!!!! (Hope it lasts that long). And I'm bringin a whole bunch of people too. 🙂
 
Yo, just wanna say thanks to Chuck D for mentioning the fans from Philly attending Freestyle Fridays @ Club Atlantis (I'm one of them). Everybody, do yourselves a favor and go. I try to go as many times as I can, through a 2 hr drive and alot of money paying to get there. I don't have the luxory of living in NY to see these acts, but it is well worth it. So get off your A@#'# and attend.

I don't know about you guys but when the weather is bad I don't like to go out. Now that summer is here I will be there all the time. Especially that my Fiancee finally has off Friday & saturday nights. I am definately going to Atlantis this friday.

One of my other close friends would love to go, she loves Freestyle. But all the Freestyle shows are always on Fridays & she works Friday nights until 1:30am at a very dirty job, so by the time she would get home, cleaned & dressed it would be too late for her.

But as I said it is now summer & my fiancee has the good days off, so we will be there enjoying the freestyle.

I can't wait to see George Lamond on Friday. I was there for Coro & loved the place, it has such a nice atmosphere & the Freestyle made it better.

Youre right not every1 likes clubs, Im one of them...how about instead of the clubs doing something at MSG, NY.
I know for sure my people will be up for it to attend. And oh boy I got people that will like to see artists LIVE!
Ill be willing to go there w/no problem.
