Let me just clear up some mis-conceptions that are being written about here:
1) Judy Torres has NEVER told myself or, as far as I know, anyone at Robbins Entertainment that she didn't want a Freestyle mix or that she is done with Freestyle.
2) We did not make this record. We heard it, liked it and as we do when we like records, we put them out. We took the mixes that were done, pressed up a record and are getting it on the radio. Last week, it was one of our biggest sellers.
3) With that said, Singles do not sell. Freestyle mixes do not add 3-4,000 to the sale of a freestyle single, most singles nowadays cannot sell 3-4,000 units. Things that look good on paper in a marketing class usually don't work out in the real world. If labels could sell 3-4,000 on a freestyle track I believe you'd see a lot more people becoming label owners and making some pocket change.
4) In response to: "The reason why there's not a freestyle version is because they don't want to be associated with it in any way. They are ashamed of freestyle."
As much as some people may not believe this, we love freestyle music at Robbins. We have supported it throughout our beginnings (1996) and before at Profile Records. Personally, I was on the radio in NYC when Freestyle broke and was one of the first people to play it. At Robbins, we don't care what kind of Dance Music it is, when we hear a track we like we put it out. Freestyle Artists from Rockell to Victoria Angeles to Cynthia to Kathy Phillips and George Lamond, have been supported by our efforts and we continue to support the music when we hear stuff that we love.
5) We can debate what is freestyle forever but some people have said that Rockell's "Can't We Try" and "When I'm Gone" are freestyle. To me, this is in that league.
6) In response to: "Who ever advised JPaker on not doing a freestyle remix advised him wrongly. They should have know that we would express our discontent on the chat rooms."
I advised myself and that's the beauty of living in America, Freedom of Speech. This board and others like it, were created for the exchange of ideas and comments, like those that have been posted in this thread. Talking is a good thing. Not everyone feels the same about things like music. Not everyone is going to like the record as is, and that's fine. But I bet some people will discover Judy for the first time as a result of this track. Our goal is to get Judy back on the radio with current music. So far, so good.
I do try and check this site out occasionally but if you have any questions that you'd like answered, feel free to e-mail me at:
