In 1975, the city honored the legend who made her home in Detroit. It renamed 12th Street, which is now known as Rosa Parks Boulevard.
LOL, please. This was just one of the many tributes society has given back to her. She was definitely recognized. Now and days, if only it were that simple for people to be recognized for their honorable gestures. I'm not saying that she wasn't worthy of such recognition. She was a pioneer in her time. But I feel that there are other civilians who are noteworthy in their responses to life that are overlooked.

I didn't even know she was still alive until I saw this thread. I can see now that she lived a pretty reasonable life.

Rosa Parks: Thank you for being who you were.

RIP she did something unbelieveable at that time...an action that had amazing results

They just closed a section of the I10 in Los Angeles in tribute to Rosa Parks. That section of the freeway is named after her, but they decided to close the freeway for 10 min. during the middle of traffic time. No wonder they calll us fruits out here in California.

I wonder who's bright idea that was. Luckily I don't drive the I10 but that 10 minute delay will probably cost those people an extra hour in commute time. Nothing like taking 3 hours to get home at night.

Geniuess!

It was rumored that her feet hurt after a long day at work, but that was not the real reason. The REAL reason why she did not get up was because she was sick and tired of the injustice that black people endured as far as not getting treated the same (the segregation nonsense) and she had just about enough of that the day they told her to get up. She felt that everyone, no matter what color they are, should be treated the same and have the right to sit anywhere on public transportation. The police told her to get up and she told him "No" and then the police officer said something like "Well by golly I'll have you arrested" and she said "You may do that." She even said this herself, I read it online somewhere. She was willing to get arrested for doing the right thing.
