Rap Music Is Now Dead All They Keep Doing Is Remaking Everything. No Longer Is It Just A Sample, now Its Even More. All They Do Is Say The Same Thing Over And Over, And Curse. I Remember When Rap Was Great, Back When Slick Rick Was The Ruler Not Jay Z. Anyway I Guess Thats What Happens When Music Goes Mainstream. The Music Industry Destroys The Music And Makes It So Popular To A Point That We Can't Stand To Hear It Anymore. Hopefully Now Someone Who Is Very Smart Starts To Put Some More Freestyle In On The Radio. Now Is Good Chance To Make A Comeback. After All Rap Took The Spotlight Away From Freestyle Back In The Day. But My True Point Is I Am Glad That They Didn't Over Do It With Freestyle Cause The Same Thing Would Have Happened To It And We Wouldn't Even Be Able To Enjoy It The Way We Do Now.

IS Rap officially dead? I don't think so. I think it just took a turn for the worse! No wait. Rap can also be considered Hip Hop, right? Whateva you call it, Hot 97 is still playing it. KTU is sweatin' it. And it dominates all the catergories in all the Grammy's, Academy's, & MTV awards.

No! Rap/ Hip Hop is not dead. It's just so damn repetitive.

But everyone keeps talking about Freestyle making a comeback....what exactly is a "comeback"? Comeback to what? Freestyle is underground now. It's 2004! Haven't we excepted the fact that this is where it's going to remain?

You could say that Rap is dead. But look at it, it's friggin thriving! Rappers get all the spolight in awards (that part is true) but some rappers just die out. Now hardcore Rap, I like that alot! Man, and I'm not talking about Eminem or 50 Cent. People may think they're hardcore.. but in my opinion they not. My brother likes to listen to alot of oldschool Rap, and I have grown to like it as well...

My theory, Rap used to be very very dominate in the 80's and it still is dominate b/c alot of fans just like to be wanksta. =P (ok thats a dumb theory) But Freestyle used to be very dominate in the 80's as well, then what happened? New stuff became played out. Don't get me wrong, I got alot of support for the newschool artists doing their thing.. but it needs that Freestyle flava. I'm doing my best to get youngins' into Freestyle.. LoL But whenever they hear it (the newschool material) they say it just sounds like dance music.

I think clubs should spin Freestyle.. and atleast VH1 should play the Freestyle videos!!!

Hmmm, rap maybe dead to you, in your eyes. That's your own personal opinion. But to say rap as an industry is dead is an ignorant statement. Look at the charts, listen to the radio, look at commercials, magazine ads, the '04 Grammys, etc. I would say hip-hop is bigger than ever right now. Much bigger than it was in the 80's.

To say hip-hop is redundant is also an uneducated statement because there are different types of rap. Whether you choose to seek it out or not is another thing. With rap music, as with any music, there are different artists that can appeal to all different types of people from different lifestyles.

And for the record, it was not rap that knocked freestyle out the box. It was record labels and radio and to some extent, even the fans and artists.

And why did u post this in FREESTYLE music talk? Rap has NOTHING to do with freestyle.

hell no!
have u been to the clubs lately? what do they play? RAP HIP HOP REGGAE!!
euro is no longer being played... house is still somehow gets its play.. and freestyle, whats freestyle? nah nah rap is not dead... it's at its peak and sad thing is that it's killing dance music!
hate it

Substitute "Euro" for "Rap" and it still applies. (probably more so)

whether u think rap sux or is repetative or uses to many samples or does to many remakes is moot cause rap is big business.... I personally love hip-hop / rap but at the same time I think there's room for radio to start squeezing in some freestyle...

Rap will NEVER die, as long as the image is still in fashion, and it is. As long as theres crack cocaine and section 8 , as long as theres poverty and a mother loosing her child to a drive by shooting, rap will never die. thats the voice of the forgotton america!!! Rap will NEVER die!!!

So true. Also take into consideration that Rap/Hip Hop is a market all in itself.

All rappers today talk about is bullshit. Shit that is so unimportant to the everyday person.....at least for me.

Rap is all about Prada, Gucci, Hennessy, Louis Vuitton, glocks, 2 way pagers, Moet, bitches giving he*d, my baby's mama, etc....shit that the average person doesn't even give a shit about. But, who profits from the this? Exactly, the artist. It's not about music anymore, it's about a lifestyle that people want to live, but probably never will.

Hip Hop for me was a phase....I got out of that shit very quick. I'll happily download an mp3 from the web, but I refuse to waste my money on such trash. Don't get me wrong, if it's banging i'll dance to it, but it's been a while since I've actually heard something that I truly liked.

It's not about the music, it's about the lifestyle, one that I choose not to live.

I dont even get the Title of this thread..."rap music is dead"... That is not true.... :nono

I personally Love Hip Hop.... :dancepuff & for all the haters .... :nah :nah

Rap Music Is Not At All What It Used To Be, Yes They Are Playing It More Than Ever Because There's Nothing Muchto Play, But It's Dead Compared To What It Used To Be. I Never Said I Hated It, I Used To Love It As Much As Freestyle But Now It's Totally Wack. It's Fallin Off It Needs Something New. I Think Too Much Of The Nelly And Other State Rappers Are Whats Killing It. The Crap That They Are Even Rapping About Is Just Dumb.

I agree, Rap was the shit , but now its like circus music, you can predict evry ryime before it comes out , and the beats are hella stupid with the exception of a few. Thats why if i have to hear rap , its gonna be from the mid 90's when all the good songs were ponding the block. If you think about it.....all genres were pumping out there best stuff in the mid 90;s (only my oppinion)

Hip Hop (RAP) will live forever

There are to many music moguls out there making hundreds of millions out there. Look P Diddy and Bad Boy Entertainment worth over 500 million dollars, Russell Simmons is over 400 million dollars and Master P over 600 million and Jay Z by himself is over 600 million dollars which is well documented in a special on MTV. As long as there is money like that then there willalways be enough fuel to keep that fire burning. No freestyle label, artist, producer, writer or anyone has even come close to 1% of that but we made a good run. Latin Dance was an industry that saw its peek but began a declined when the quality output was starting to go down and people saw as just making a quick buck. Freestyle was and still is missing the business perspective. Labels saw the hip hop potential and flush it will $$$$. The music captavated a particular market and then it started to spread and agai it was because of the potential that was eveident and the investors mostly caucasion saw an opportunity and exploited it. Hip is not music its a culture base on solid business.

I think freestyle is coming up on a second chance and really to move forward all the stigmatism of "FREESTYLE" needs to go away in fact I try not to even use the word freestyle anymore. As a business manager to a label and a performing group I tend to market our product by calling Urban Dance which was inspired by the clever articulation of Dave the One Mendez in his review of the Nu Image Album. Right now our music is a community. Can it become a culture, sure why not but it will take a unification of people both artist and fans as well as the people in the industry but it will also take some solid restructuring and a strong business plan and professional ethic.

Anyway I know I strayed from the topic or at least I made a connection but its an interesting topic. Personally I love Hip Hop music and as much as I loved Slick Rick I do think the talent today raises the bar in Hip Hop. In our era you had Tupoc which is really an urban poet, Biggie Smalls who in death is still on top when comparing to the then and now of hip hop and of course Jay Z who will one day be a legend even though in my book he already is. No one can doubt he has skills and is probably the best out there today. Hip hop is here forever it may mutate as it has when comparing the 70s to the 80s then to the 90s and now the 2ks but none the less it will always be around.

I hope I helped spark the conversation.

By the way

Not all hip hop depicts negative image. Jay Z rarely does, Busta Ryme rarely does. I agree a good part of hip hop is negative and garbage but the audience is already captivated. What is making still thrive is all cooberations with R&B artist and hip hop. I would say more than 70% of the stuff coming out today has a R&B voacal hook or chorus.

By the way I left out Eminem as among the greats, got admit that white boy can write as sick as he is he is nice better than slick rick in my opinion.

Rap or Hip-Hop is far from dead. If you live in NYC you'll see that stations like Z100 and KTU up untill about a year ago never played hip-hop, now its a big part of their playlist. You see these guys like Eminem, Jay Z, 50 Cent ect makin movies, clothes and opening up clubs. So Hip-Hop is far from dead and is even very far from going away. Hip-Hop is hear to stay and theres nothing all them haters can do about it. Just because you may not like the way rap music has changed doesnt mean that its dead. Even bands such as Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park have enfused rap into their music by having a DJ in their bands. And for those who say that Hip-Hop shouldnt be talked about in this forum well if you remember way back before Freestyle was called "Freestyle" it was first called Latin Hip-Hop
