I agree -w- Young Megatron and K7. It's about the KIDS. If the kids like you, you're SET. But for kids to like you, you have to LOOK GOOD, SOUND GOOD (or at least have some BANGIN' BEATS) and you have to be relevant.

Reggaeton is tropical, HARD, and pulls no punches. It makes you sway. I haven't heard a freestyle song in years that has all of those elements (mine included).

I also DON'T believe that freestyle is done.

Yesterday, ONCE AGAIN...One of my wife's students was singing "I want you.... I want you so bad, I need you..." (Shana).
My wife asked her if she knew about freestyle and she said "Oh yeah" and mentioned a bunch of artists. She said that the radio don't play it though.

I think that if people keep doing what they do, it's only a matter of time until a song breaks through and makes some noise. It'll probably be a handsome, energetic young man or a pretty little vamp with sexy moves. Once that happens, that person needs to do what they can (shows, appearances, etc.) to keep the torch burning. There have been MANY disappearing acts over the years that did the one song but self destructed before they could make it big.

Caution, though. I don't think freestyle will ever be as big as Hip Hop is now.

That's the short, short version. I could keep writing forever.

Peace...

Hi

It really is up to the kids........NOT US.

"WHY" so i say that?

Listen to radio now. Everything is geared towards kids. That's how the industry has always been. You dont hear the great groups of the past making music that was popular when they were big: they release music that is MODERN so it could reach the masses, unless their is a station totally devoted to that particular genre of music.
But then, it would be considered some type of OLDIE or CLASSICS station. One example of a perfect station is WBAB 102.3 on Long Island. They play classic rock all day and all night. from time to time, they will insert the lastest rock hit but they are more geared towards CLASSIC ROCK. They know there is a demand for it and it shows my listenership.
Remember 105.9 before it went HIP HOP? they were totally devoted to DISCO and early 80's dance but it didnt last and the ratings were poor so they shifted formats. As the other stations add freestyle to thier playlist, the popularity will grow again.

If you're older than 32, you are a forgotten demographic.

Everything is geared at kids because KIDS control the parent's pockets.

Also, older people don't have a lot of expendable cash (because all the $$$ is on cars, homes, KIDS, etc.). And don't get me started on the poor elderly. They don't even have $$$ for medicine. That's why you don't see a lot of ANYTHING geared at them.

Young people spend their $$$ on CDs, magazines, and on everything advertised on radio because most of them lack responsibilities, and sometimes tend to be more impulsive (I'ma save for WEEKS to get the $500.00 retro warm-up suit).

So if a radio station and MTV think that their "kids" will like you, you're SET. If you make kids watch (or listen), they can sell advertising for higher amounts and they can make a lot of $$$ (FOR PLAYING YOUR MUSIC).

The bottom line is $$$ and if you can make people $$$ they will spend the $$$ to make YOU popular, in turn making YOU a little bit of $$$.

That'$ all I'm $aying about thi$ matter.

BTW. Look up my thread Middle School Freestyle.

No doubt this is true

It was said earlier in the thread that the legends coming out to do it again along with the up and comers is key.

Follow the steps that hip hop did. B.I.G wasn't the prettiest mofo but the masses flocked; Tupac had the girls creamin; Jay-z not the best lookin neither; Naz got the girls creamin too. Surround them with beautiful beehotches like Biancee, lil Kim who could sing and do tracks on their own; There's enough for all shapes, shades of color and sizes.

I've seen three new up and comers that can sing their asses off!!!!!!!!!! HOLY COW; they're 17 and 23 yrs old AND GOOD LOOKING/SEXY MAMAS!!!

they should be highlightin on tracks with the legends (do a guest verse) like on tka/k7 track or George Lamond etc..... too many to name. Throw that girl in between the guys and the guys in between the girls on their tracks.

yes it's about dollars; and it's also about intellligent marketing and branding in unison with rumors and press about this stuff.
all other genres of music follow this formula; we have yet to do this; it's proven time and time again; this formula works.

Where are the agents; label owners; a&r? This needs to be a well planned attack.

Nothing can take away the memories of what freestyle was back in the day. It will never be the same again. TKA's performance at Great Adventures, Roseland, Devil's Nest, 1018, Lamour East, Paled's, Studio 54, Heartthrobs, Tunnel, Bora Bora, Avanti's, Silverscreen's, Town Hall (Flushing),etc. and the list goes on and on. It was all about making a quick buck and here were are today. We did not protect the freestyle movement in reference to looking into the future of where it would be today.

Whether you go to Sal's Party at the Copa or Angel's at LQ'S on May 30th. It's just going to be one big family reunion where we all get together for one night and reminisce. After it's all over, what have we accomplished?????
Nothing !! It's the same get togethers year after year after year.

I only wished that they great freestlye singers of yesteryear could get together with some of the big names of today. Im not talkin about Marc Anthony, J-LO or LaIndia which would sound normal but other artists that you wouldnt normally see teamin up with an artist. FAT JOE, BUSTA, and others. Hell, I could just imagine K7 rapping/singing with LL COOL J. or Cynthia with Ludicrous. It could happen!

Kenny Lemme test yo memory. Do you remember the GUIDO MC'S from Queens? I think that they went to Jamaica High School :rasta

Yeah, thease kids are ready for some new bangin ass freestyle but some ones got to give it to them!!! I swear once high schools start playing freestyle again............its on like donky kong!!! Look at R&B and HIP HOP , thease genres practicly throw themselves at the youth , where freestyle hides in a corner for some college radio and a bunch of adults who never let go of there past. :losmile

I try my best to get my friends into Freestyle. But sometimes it just doesnt appeal to them. Maybe they're scared to admit to their "crew" that they like something other than Rap or Hip Hop. I know I ain't. I tell people all the time, I'm reppin Freestyle.
