and i must disagree about alisha...her song is popular as well...i knew that one before i knew what freestyle was...its a great song

johnny 'o' - "freestyle"

oh! "just like the wind" is a very well-known song - anyone who knows what freestyle is knows it - not that many people know "all night passion"

A: Here...

I have this song in my head becaue I mentioned it in another post:

"Never Stop Loving You" by Heartbrake

Very very very typical Freestyle

- Synth pattern
- Tons of synopation
- Edits up the wazzooo, some not timed exactly as to mess up a deejay's mix
- Conga drums
- Orchestra hits
- Begins with a slow ballad keyboard thing that makes you wanna do ballet
- About love, has "Love" in the title
- About bad love; breakup
- The group's name is "Heartbrake". C'mon like Pain and shiz.
- Mispelling: should be "Heartbreak".
- The most-used "Give Me Tonight" chord progression: Am-F-G-E
- Bad recording quality (heehee)
- Nasal, nose-pinching vocals
and lastly...

- A true Freestyler loves it anyway!

"ALL NIGHT PASSION" was the jammy-jam back in the day!!! i remember rollerskating to it in 86 and it was on the radio all the time. peter fontaines "shes like the wind" is not a song everyone knows. my neices know about freestyle through myself and Johnny Budz mixes on KTU. they never heard of peter fontaines "shes like the wind". so that would be a bad choice. Diane hasnt even heard of it. so to say "EVERY FREESTYLE FAN KNOWS IT is a very opinionated statement . the songs that i have mentioned have had some steady airplay and EVERY FREESTYLE FAN should know ALISHA's "ALL NIGHT PASSION" (BABY TALK, TOO TURNED ON). her songs went hand in hand with THE COVERGIRLS,EXPOSE and LISA LISA. But i think the #1 aong should be "WHEN I HEAR MUSIC" by DEBBIE DEB. i mean, as much as i dislike the song, it was one of the first to get me hooked and it still is played till this day.

theres a bunch of songs that would define freestyle. we were raised to know freestyle as a unique street thing that differs from pop and dance, it s our escapse from that. its something that till this day we can play and still jam to no matter how old the track is. It never grows old. unlike dance, you got, say bobby browns- every little step in "88" which was a big dance hit then and everyone was out there feelin on it. who would you see out there today playin that joint in their cars loud as hell? No one! (other than me...lOl) but im The Originator of course. The Originator always originates never duplicates. lol.
but here are some that would define freestyle the most, from the list im gonna make ill decide (since i have to choose one) which one would define it the best........

Shannon- give me tonight
cover girls- inside outside
george lamond- without you
tka- maria, give your love to me
noel- silent morning
collage- i'll be loving you
lisa, lisa- i wonder if i take you home
sweet sensation- hooked on you
johnny o- fantasy girl, dreamboy/dreamgirl w/ cynthia
one plus one- runaway lover

ok, give me a minute...............

first off, i absolutely love all of these songs.
i wouldve chosen "maria" but its a unique freestyle dance tune, so are "give your love to me" and "without you" in some aspects. "i wonder if i take you home" is mostly beat which i dont find common in freestyle. "hooked on you", is a great joint but i wouldnt say that this would be the only song that defines freestyle (since i need to find one track that would define it alone). "ill be loving you" and "fantasy girl" are both too dramatic to define freestyle, "give me tonight" is excellent except the voice, the voice is too unique. "inside outside" the bridge on that song made me change my mind about it. "runaway lover" i found that one kind of poppish (not saying that it is). "dreamboy/dreamgirl" i really dont know why i didnt pick this one, but i guess its the duet and the creativeness in the vocal arrangements that dont make it common in freestyle.

it was a hard one but i chose "silent morning" by Noel. In my opinion, it captured the true essence of freestyle. its totally hard core, right at ya freestyle every last second of it. and the thing is this guy totally departed from freestyle in "93" when he released this no longer made pop album.

When people at my school ask me "What is freestyle?"
I like to tell them to listen to We Are The Ones by 'The Legends of Freestyle'

NO REASON TO CRY
